Pelosi also said her trip “in no way” contradicted official US policy, which recognizes “one China” and has not officially recognised Taiwan as an independent state.&nbsp;

She further added, “America’s solidarity with the 23 million people of Taiwan is more important today than ever, as the world faces a choice between autocracy and democracy. The United States continues to oppose unilateral efforts to change the status quo.”&nbsp;

She added, "Our visit is part of our broader trip to the Indo-Pacific — including Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan — focused on mutual security, economic partnership and democratic governance. &nbsp;Our discussions with Taiwan leadership will focus on reaffirming our support for our partner and on promoting our shared interests, including advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region."&nbsp;

Taiwan reacted to the key visit as it said that&nbsp;Pelosi’s visit shows “rock solid” support from Washington.&nbsp;

In a statement,&nbsp;Taipei's foreign ministry said:&nbsp;“We believe that the visit by Speaker&nbsp;Pelosi... will strengthen the close and friendly relations between Taiwan and the United States, and further deepen the global cooperation between the two sides in all areas.”&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement that Pelosi's trip was “extremely dangerous” and the military even vowed to launch "targeted military actions" in response to Pelosi's visit.&nbsp;

"The Chinese People's Liberation Army is on high alert and will launch a series of targeted military operations to counter this, resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely thwart external interference and 'Taiwan independence' separatist attempts," PLA spokesman Wu Qian said in a statement condemning the visit.&nbsp;

Now, in the latest development, the White House warned China against overreacting to a trip by Pelosi to Taiwan. Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS reported citing sources that the US House of Representatives Speaker will arrive in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan on Tuesday.

In its message to China, the White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters that Pelosi would have every right to visit the self-ruled island and added that China need not turn any visit by Pelosi into a “crisis”. Kirby even warned that Beijing may be “positioning” itself for a show of military strength around the island.

Reports mentioned that the White House and State Department are opposed to Pelosi’s trip. But Kirby made it clear that the speaker was entitled to go where she pleased.

Kirby said, “The speaker has the right to visit Taiwan. There is no reason for Beijing to turn a potential visit consistent with longstanding US policies into some sort of crisis.”&nbsp;

But Kirby made it clear that the speaker was entitled to go where she pleased. Kirby said, “The speaker has the right to visit Taiwan. ‘Speaker has the right to visit Taiwan’: White House asks China to not turn Pelosi’s visit into ‘crisis’

Ahead of the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan,&nbsp;China has warned the United States. On Monday (August 1)&nbsp;China said that its military will "not sit idly by". During a media briefing, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that because of Pelosi's status as the "No. 3 official of the US government", a visit to Taiwan would "lead to egregious political impact".&nbsp;

Lijian said, "If U.S. House of Representatives Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi goes to Taiwan, it will be a gross interference in China's internal affairs, seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, wantonly trample on the one-China principle."&nbsp;

Although, it is not confirmed whether or not Pelosi will visit Taiwan but Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS reported citing sources that the US House of Representatives Speaker will arrive in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, tomorrow night.&nbsp;Pelosi kicked off the Asia tour in Singapore on Monday.&nbsp;

Lijian said, "We would like to tell the United States once again that China is standing by and the Chinese People's Liberation Army will never sit idly by, and that China will take resolute responses and strong countermeasures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity."&nbsp;
