How Kremlin will react depends on whether this is a genuine opposition movement or a Russia-style complicated conspiracy of smoke and mirrors, according to Keir Giles, a Russia expert at the Chatham House thinktank. "We may not know for some time yet," Giles said.

"If the Americans decide to once again resort to public diplomacy ... that is their business and I would even say that it is their problem."

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington was prepared to engage with Moscow through the established diplomatic channels. He said Griner’s conviction highlighted her wrongful detention by Russia and further compounded the injustice that had been done to her.&nbsp; 
 
The Kremlin has remained tight-lipped on the prospect of a swap, saying that if prisoner exchanges were discussed in the media, they would never happen.

"The Americans have already made that mistake, suddenly deciding to use megaphone diplomacy to resolve these issues," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. "This is not how they are resolved."&nbsp;Peskov declined to comment on the court’s ruling on Griner. When asked if she could be pardoned, he said that the clemency procedure was coded in Russian laws.

Griner’s sentence — which Biden called "unacceptable" — could pave the way for a prisoner swap that would include the 31-year-old athlete and a prolific Russian arms dealer serving a 25-year prison term in the United States. The United States has already made what Blinken called a "substantial offer" to secure the release of Americans detained in Russia, including Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan.

Europe's second-highest court has upheld the decision to impose the ban.

"The Grand Chamber of the General Court dismisses RT France's application for annulment of acts of the Council, adopted following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, temporarily prohibiting that organisation from broadcasting content," the Luxembourg-based General Court said.

Brussels had accused Russia Today of systematic disinformation over Russian invasion of Europe.

Judges of the General Court dismissed Russia Today's argument that ban curtailed its freedom of expression.

"The limitations on RT France's freedom of expression which the restrictive measures at issue are liable to have are proportionate, inasmuch as they are appropriate and necessary to the aims pursued," judges said in their ruling.

"The Court also finds that those measures do not disproportionately infringe the essential content of RT France's freedom to conduct a business since they are temporary and reversible," they said.

The Kremlin termed the court's decision as "extremely negative". It said that Moscow would take similar measures against Western media.

RT France said it would appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union, Europe's highest.

"The Court's confirmation of this general ban with an uncertain term unfortunately shows that the judicial power of the European Union cannot or does not want to oppose political power," Xenia Fedorova, president of RT France, said in a statement.

The EU sanction applies to RT's English unit and operations in Britain, Germany, France and Spain.

A chess-playing robot broke a seven-year-old boy’s finger&nbsp;during a tournament in Moscow, Russia, after the kid went for a swift move without waiting for the necessary time for the machine to complete its action.

The incident took place on July 19 at the Moscow Chess Open tournament. The vice president of the Chess Federation of Russia, Sergey Smagin, told state-owned news agency RIA Novosti that the boy is fine and that his fingers have been fractured, reports Newsweek.

"The boy is all right. They put a plaster cast on the finger to heal faster. Yes, there are certain safety rules and the child, apparently, violated them and, when he made a move, did not notice that he had to wait. This is an extremely rare case, the first I can recall," he was quoted as saying.

A video has since gone viral, showing that the kid had his fingers trapped by the robot for a few seconds before a woman rushes to help him. Three men then intervene and manage to free the boy's finger from the robot's hold.

State-tv Baza reported that the boy’s name is Christopher and that he's among the 30 strongest chess players in Moscow aged up to nine years old.

"The robot did not like such a hurry — he grabbed the boy's index finger and squeezed it hard," said the Russian news website.

"The people around rushed to help and pulled out the finger of the young player, but the fracture could not be avoided."

The news outlet reported that the chess robot had played three matches on the trot with Christopher.
