India's monsoon emergency continues to intensify as devastating floods wreak havoc across multiple states, with Assam remaining the worst affected. The flood death toll in Assam has climbed to 78, while more than 3 lakh people across seven districts continue to battle rising waters, damaged homes, and widespread destruction. Over 550 villages remain submerged, and more than 21,500 hectares of farmland have been destroyed, severely impacting livelihoods. Relief and rescue operations are underway as authorities distribute food, clothing, and essential supplies to affected communities. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed the flood situation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured all possible assistance from the central government. An inter-ministerial team has also completed its assessment of flood damage in Upper Assam.

In Assam, the flood death toll has risen to 66, with more than 6.5 lakh people affected across 10 districts. Hundreds of villages remain submerged, thousands of hectares of farmland have been damaged, and rescue operations are continuing with the Indian Air Force airlifting and airdropping relief supplies.

Gujarat has also witnessed widespread flooding after receiving significantly higher rainfall than last year. More than 42,000 people have been shifted to safer locations as authorities remain on high alert. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to begin sanitation drives and damage assessments as floodwaters recede.

Assam remains the worst-hit, where the flood death toll has risen to 66 after four more fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 6.5 lakh people across 10 districts remain affected. Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat are among the worst-hit districts, with over 810 villages submerged and nearly 35,000 hectares of farmland damaged. Urban flooding has also been reported in Kamrup district. Relief and rescue operations are underway, with the Indian Air Force deploying helicopters to airlift and airdrop relief materials to stranded residents. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said relief operations will continue with larger-scale air drops in the coming days.
