In an emotional reunion, a Sarus crane was seen jumping around the cage of the zoo located in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh when a 30-year-old man, who had earlier nursed the bird and treated his injuries, came to visit.

The bird was found by Mohammad Arif, who is a farmer by profession, a year ago in his field. Arif had said that he was hoping that the bird would fly back into the wild after it is healthy.

However, the bird continued to stay with Arif and developed a special bond with him. The bird and man's heart-warming bond attracted a lot of media attention.

Last month, the bird was confiscated by the forest department officials under Indian law, according to which it is illegal for people to give shelter to Sarus cranes or even feed the bird.

The bird was initially kept in a wildlife sanctuary and was later shifted to Kanpur City's zoo, where it lives inside a cage.

Again, an emotional video surfaced online wherein the two friends can be seen meeting each other after months at the Kanpur Bird Sanctuary.

The crane can be seen spreading his wings and trying to find a way to get out of the enclosure to meet his human friend.

In August 2022, Arif found the Sarus crane in an unconscious state, badly injured and bleeding. The bird stayed at Arif's home and followed him everywhere, videos of which went viral on social media.

Political party Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav also came to meet Arif on March 6 and shared a picture with the Sarus crane on Twitter.

After the bird was taken away, a complaint was filed by the forest department and Arif was booked under the Wildlife Act of 1972 (amended). Defending his act, Arif said that he “did not deserve a legal notice for rescuing the bird.”

"I didn’t chain the bird. It lived with me. What’s my fault? The forest department notice says there is a case lodged against me. I treated the Sarus bird and wanted it to go back to the jungle. It became my friend and did not leave,” Arif said.&nbsp;

Myanmar security forces have resumed loudspeaker broadcasts near its border with Bangladesh ordering Rohingya Muslims to immediately leave a strip of no-man's land between the two countries, refugees said Sunday.

Around 6,000 refugees from the persecuted minority have been camping on the narrow stretch of land since fleeing a brutal military crackdown in Myanmar's west last August.

The majority of the nearly 700,000 Rohingya who escaped the violence settled in huge camps in Bangladesh but a smaller number insisted on staying put in the buffer zone between the borders.

Myanmar had agreed in February to stop using loudspeakers to order the stranded Muslims to leave the area immediately and cross into Bangladesh.

The army also withdrew some of its heavy forces from the edge of no-man's land, where refugees camped on the other side of a barbed wire fence had complained of intimidation.

But the loudspeaker messages resumed this weekend without warning, Rohingya community leaders said, exacerbating tension along the restive border zone.

"They played it several times yesterday, and have been repeating it this morning. It's very disturbing and creates panic," said Mohammad Arif, one of the leaders camped in no-man's land.

The messages -- broadcast in Burmese and Rohingya -- warned the refugees to "leave the area under Myanmar's jurisdiction or face prosecution". "We're citizens of Myanmar. It's our fatherland. We have every right to remain here. Why should we go elsewhere?" said another community leader, Dil Mohammad.

The broadcasts also refer to the refugees as "Bengalis", the term used by many in Buddhist-majority Myanmar to refer to the Rohingya, whom they consider interlopers from Bangladesh.

Lieutenant Colonel Manzurul Hasan Khan, a local Border Guard Bangladesh commander, said the situation was being closely monitored.

"We have noticed that they tied loudhailers to the trees along their border fences near the camp," Khan said.

The refugee crisis has strained ties between Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The neighbours had agreed in November to begin repatriating Rohingya refugees to Myanmar but the process has stalled, with both sides blaming each other for the delays.

Those living in no-man's land -- and many in the Bangladeshi refugee camps -- refuse to return to Myanmar until their safety and citizenship is assured and compensation granted for past injustices.&nbsp

Myanmar orders Rohingya to leave tense border zone

Police in Pakistan&#39;s Mardan District on Thursday confirmed the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Councillor Mohammad Arif for his role in the lynching of Mashal Khan, a student of the Abdul Wali Khan University in April last year.

Geo TV quoted police, as saying that Arif was arrested near Chamtar on the Ring Road. They said that he is one of the three accused of murdering Mashal Khan.

Arif was serving as the tehsil councillor of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Mashal Khan was brutally beaten and shot dead at the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan over allegations of blasphemy in April 2017. The allegations of blasphemy were later proved to be false by a joint investigation team.

Hailing the police action, PTI Chairman Imran Khan shared a message on Twitter:

He said, &quot;I want to commend the KP police for succeeding in arresting the main accused in the Mashal Khan murder case, Arif Rangi, a PTI councillor. This is how a professional and depoliticised police force works, in contrast to the politicised police forces of Punjab and Sindh.&quot;

The punishment for the rest of the accused who were arrested was announced by an anti-terrorism court in Haripur on February 7 this year.

According to the verdict, one person was awarded death sentence, five life imprisonment, 25 were jailed for four years each, while 26 were acquitted over lack of evidence.

The 26 suspects released by the court received a &#39;hero&#39;s welcome&#39; in their native towns of Swabi and Mardan after their release.

Later, Mashal&#39;s family challenged their acquittal as did the provincial government.

In an appeal filed with the Peshawar High Court, Mashal&#39;s brother Aimal Khan expressed reservations over the verdict, stating those who have been acquitted can be seen in the video of the incident when Mashal was tortured to death.

On February 27, a PHC division bench ordered the release on bail of the 25 accused who had been awarded three to four-year sentences in the case.

The 25 accused had pleaded that there was a provision in the law under which those sentenced to less than five years in jail could be released on bail while their appeal was being heard.
