Hitting out at Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, Chouhan claimed BJP could also have formed a "lame" government too but it decided it would do so only with a grand majority.

Chouhan also mocked the gathering of opposition leaders at Saturday's Kolkata rally as "bhanumati ka kunaba" (marriage of convenience), saying there was no unanimity over a common leader among the parties planning the 'mahagathbandhan'.

"It's like a wedding without a groom. On the other hand, we have a leader in the form of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lead us in the battleground," he said.

The 'Yuva Vijay Sankalp Maharally' was the fifth of a series of big rallies held by the Delhi BJP in the last two months, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

However, the event saw a not so whelming attendance. Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari warned from the stage that it would be investigated who were the persons leaving the venue during speeches of the leaders.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday closed contempt proceedings against Delhi BJP chief and MP Manoj Tiwari for breaking the civic agency’s seal on premises here in September even as it deprecated his action of taking law into his own hands.

A bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur slammed Tiwari, saying the court was “extremely pained” due to his conduct as he is an elected representative and should have behaved responsibly.&nbsp;

The bench said Tiwari levelled frivolous allegations against the court-mandated committee, which shows how “low he can stoop”.&nbsp;

The apex court also said that “misplaced political propaganda has no place” and “such practices should be deprecated”.

The apex court had on September 19 issued contempt notice against Tiwari, an MP from the north-east Delhi constituency, after taking note of a report filed by the monitoring committee which had alleged that the BJP leader had broken the seal of the premises.&nbsp;

An FIR was also lodged against Tiwari by the EDMC for allegedly breaking the seal of the premises in Gokalpuri area in north-east Delhi on September 16.

While speaking to ANI after the scuffle, Tiwari had claimed that the entire incident took place in front of Kejriwal.

He had alleged that he was stopped by the police and AAP supporters from attending the event.

The bridge was inaugurated on November 4 and was opened for the public the next day.

The Signature Bridge in Delhi over the Yamuna was inaugurated amid a surcharged atmosphere on Sunday with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacking BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the country needs bridges, schools and hospitals not temples and statues for progress.

High drama prevailed before the inauguration of the bridge with Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and scores of supporters staging a protest for allegedly not being invited to the inaugural event of the newly-built city landmark. They also had a "scuffle" with some AAP workers.

"Four days ago the 182 metre tallest statue of the world was unveiled and today this 154 metre high bridge is being inaugurated. The country has to decide if it needs statues and temples or bridges, schools and hospitals," Kejriwal said inaugurating the bridge.&nbsp;

He said the thought of Signature bridge reminded him of the first Prime Minister of the country Jawahar Lal Nehru.&nbsp;

"If Nehru had chosen to build temples and statues instead of institutions like BHEL and SAIL, then the country would not have progressed. The country would languish in 15th century if temples and mosques are given preferences over science, technology and research," Kejriwal said.

He alleged that in order to stop his government from completing the bridge, the officials and engineers were issued threats of CBI raids against them.

"The Signature bridge has been completed only because there is an honest government in Delhi," Kejriwal asserted.&nbsp;

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also alleged that "obstacles" were raised by the Modi government so that the Signature bridge was not completed in the rule of AAP government in Delhi.&nbsp;

"If Modi government had contributed one inch to this bridge, I would myself chant Modi-Modi like those who are showing black flags," he said referring to BJP supporters who were camped nearby along with Manoj Tiwari.&nbsp;

In a direct attack on Tiwari, Sisodia said if he was "so fond of" going to inaugurals then he should work constructively.&nbsp;

"It is Modi government's rule that the CM of elected government in Delhi will not be invited to any inaugural function. We deliberately did not invite (Tiwari)," Sisodia said claiming no one from Delhi government was invited at inauguration of Skywalk at ITO.

Earlier Sunday, Tiwari and his supporters allegedly entered into a scuffle with AAP members and staged a protest for not being invited to inaugural event. 
Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia were not present when the protest took place.

BJP, however, said that AAP leader Amantullah Khan used abusive language and pushed Tiwari.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner of police, eastern range, said the main function was held smoothly without any disturbance.&nbsp;

"Our staff on duty at the place of function performed their task with utmost restraint and diligence. Though there was slogan shouting but police segregated the groups and did not allow any clash or violence to take place," he said.

"The situation was handled very professionally by Delhi Police and not allowed to take an ugly turn," Yadav added.

Tiwari is MP from North East Delhi and the bridge comes in his constituency.&nbsp;

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday attacked the Congress president by saying, "Rahul Gandhi is quite confused about the Rafale Deal. Every time he speaks about Rafale, he gives a wrong data about the deal."

BJP criticised Rahul Gandhi after the latter alleged kickbacks in the deal.&nbsp;

"Anil Ambani bought land with the same money. This is clear that Dassault CEO is lying. Why did they invest Rs 284 crore in a loss-making company?" Rahul said while addressing a press conference on Friday.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said today that the sit-in by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues at the Lieutenant Governor's office was a "mockery of democracy".

Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues spent the night at Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's office to press for their demands including a direction to IAS officers to end their "strike" and action against officers who have struck work for "four months".

Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Labour Minister Gopal Rai and Health Minister Satyendar Jain met Baijal at&nbsp;5.30 pm&nbsp;yesterday and since then, they stayed out there.

Tiwari tweeted, "Making mockery of Democracy, No Work only Drama (sic)."

Vijender Gupta, the leader of opposition in the assembly, called Kejriwal's sit-in a way to "shirk work".

"Delhi's Maalik (owner) Kejriwal and company are protesting inside an air-conditioned room. Delicacies are being served to them from outside while the city's reeling under a water crisis. They are only concerned about politics and not about people's issues," Gupta posted on Twitter.

A number of AAP MLAs, party's leaders and workers have also camped near the L-G office, and the police have barricaded the area.

The L-G's office slammed Kejriwal's sit-in, saying it was another protest in the sequence of "dharna without reason".

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today his government will move to the Supreme Court seeking a &quot;temporary ban&quot; on the ongoing sealing drive in Delhi, after his meeting with BJP leaders on the issue ended in hostility.

A BJP delegation, led by its Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari, walked out of the meeting at Kejriwal&#39;s residence, alleging the AAP government wanted to &quot;divert&quot; the attention.

The leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, alleged that AAP leaders and workers misbehaved with the visiting members of the BJP delegation during the meeting.

Gupta charged that AAP workers entered into a scuffle with BJP workers. He said a police complaint against AAP legislators and others over the incident has been filed.

The complaint filed by Delhi BJP general-secretary Ravinder Gupta with Civil Lines police station named AAP MLAs Jarnail Singh, Akhilesh Tripathi, Rajesh Rishi and Jitender Tomar.

Tiwari said the BJP delegation walked out of the meeting as Kejriwal had converted it into a &quot;public rally&quot;.

&quot;We sensed their dangerous mood and felt that he was not interested in finding a solution to the problem,&quot; he charged.

Kejriwal said he was &quot;sad&quot; that the BJP did not participate in the meeting. He announced the Delhi government will approach the Supreme Court seeking a temporary ban on the drive being carried out by the saffron party-led civic bodies against properties allegedly violating the civic norms.

&quot;I am sad that this meeting could not take place. We will go to the Supreme Court for a temporary ban on sealing this week,&quot; he said.

Kejriwal said if the Centre, the L-G and the BJP wanted, not a single shop would have been sealed in the national capital, alleging that the saffron party was doing politics on the issue.

&quot;Although the BJP delegation had come for a discussion over sealing, they did not raise this issue in the meeting.

&quot;Manoj Tiwari raised only two issues - unauthorised colonies and 351 roads, which have nothing to with the ongoing sealing drive. On 351 roads, there is no sealing yet, but despite this, BJP is raising this issue again and again,&quot; Kejriwal told reporters at his official residence.

He also said the BJP was diverting the attention from the sealing drive.

The chief minister said all the three municipal commissioners have sought two more days&#39; to submit a survey report to the government to change the land use of 351 roads to commercial and mixed land use so that there is no sealing on these roads in the future.

&quot;If the survey report comes in two days, we will submit it in the Supreme Court in this week,&quot; he said.

On the BJP&#39;s claim that AAP MLAs attacked its leaders during the meeting, Kejriwal said that the BJP was levelling &quot;baseless allegations&quot;.

&quot;If any MLA has misbehaved with them, I will throw him out (of the AAP)... Recently, I had written to the L-G on the sealing issue and suggested four steps to give a relief to traders, but it is unfortunate that the Centre and L-G is not taking immediate step to stop the sealing,&quot; Kejriwal said.

He added that BJP leaders wanted a &quot;closed-door&quot; discussion, but he denied it, saying there should be an open discussion on sealing drive that&#39;s why he had also called AAP MLAs and councillors for the meeting.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal visited markets in Chandni Chowk and other areas and interacted with traders hit by sealing drive.

Civic bodies have undertaken the sealing drive initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee. Commercial premises have been sealed for failing to deposit conversion charges according to provisions in Master Plan 2021.

The AAP has demanded that the Central government should either bring an ordinance or amend Delhi Master Plan 2021 to stop sealing.

The BJP, on the other hand, demanded that the AAP dispensation should come out with a notification on mix land use to give a relief to the city&#39;s traders.

Delhi government to move Supreme court to seek 'temporary ban' on sealing drive

BJP today appointed Nityanand Rai and Manoj Tiwari, both first time Lok Sabha members with contrasting background, as chief of its Bihar and Delhi units respectively, a decision seen as part of its effort to reach out to constituencies outside the party&#39;s traditional base in the two places.

Rai (50), a three-time MLA before he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 from Ujiarpur in Bihar, has risen through the ranks, having been in ABVP, the students wing of RSS, and then the BJYM, BJP&#39;s youth wing, before being elected as an MLA for the first time in 2000.

Unlike Rai, Tiwari (43) is a rank outsider to the state put under his charge. He had joined the saffron party just before 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He had earlier contested from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat on Samajwadi Party ticket in 2009 and lost.

The party top brass believes that Tiwari, a popular figure, especially among the numerically important constituency of migrants from Bihar and eastern UP, will infuse fresh energy and dynamism into the Delhi unit, which is at a low ebb having suffered successive defeats in the last two assembly polls.

A well-known Bhojpuri singer and actor, Tiwari had won from Delhi North-East constituency, which has a large migrant population.

His appointment underlines party&#39;s attempt to reach out to the ever-swelling number of the migrant electors, who mostly voted for AAP in the last assembly polls.

Rai is an organisation man, who enjoys the trust of BJP&#39;s state leadership.

Despite being a Yadav, a loyal support base of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, and thrice having got elected as MLA from Hajipur, which has significant presence of people from the community, Rai stuck with BJP.

In a state dominated by Mandal politics, his appointment highlights BJP&#39;s attempt to reach beyond its traditional support base of upper castes and some sections of OBCs.
