The New York governor on Tuesday called for a national assault weapons ban in New York after Manhattan shooting that killed five people. The governor noted that the suspect used an AR-15 style assault rifle, which is majorly used in US shootings.

In a press briefing, authorities, while referring to Tamura as "pure evil", revealed the identity of the slain police officer. They said that "hero" dad, 36-year-old Didarul Islam, was killed by the deranged gunman while protecting civilians.

The gunman, Shane D Tamura, used an assault rifle to carry out his deadly rampage inside 345 Park Avenue. He reportedly used a .223 calibre Palmetto State Armoury AR-15 assault rifle.
