<p>An Ivory Coast footballer has alleged that he was subjected to racial slurs and a mob attack at a football ground in the Malappuram district of the southern Indian state of Kerala.</p>

<p>The footballer, identified as Dairrassouba Hassane Junior, alleged in the police complaint that the incident took place on March 10 in Areekode, a village in the district where he had arrived to play in a Sevens Football tournament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sevens Football is a renowned sporting event in the state where matches are held in packed local stadiums, usually between November and May. Junior was representing Jawahar Mavoor club and the tournament was organised by a local association called Town Team Chemrakkattur.</p>

<p>"They hit me brutally. I escaped after supporters of my team intervened and stopped them,’’ said Junior in the complaint.</p>

<p>Notably, such incidents of violence are extremely common in the amateur football landscape of Kerala. Last year, a football tournament in the state's Kozhikode district turned ugly after a massive brawl erupted between players of the two teams over a foul.</p>

<p>According to sources, Muhammad Muhasin, a resident of Edappal town in Malappuram district in Kerala died along with Huzaifa-al-Bakistani, a key commander of the Islamic State in the Khorosan province of Afghanistan.</p>

<p>Bakistani was a highly trained Pakistani terrorist, who radicalised several Indian youths.</p>

<p>The news of Muhammad Muhasin`s death was communicated to his family in Kerala via a WhatsApp message from an unidentified number from Afghanistan.</p>

<p>The text in the Malayalam language said, "Your brother was seeking martyrdom. Allah has fulfilled his wish as per his aspiration. He was martyred 10 days ago in a drone attack by the American forces".</p>

<p>"Please do not reveal this to the police, otherwise they will come to your home and start bothering you. Your brother doesn`t want this", the message read.</p>

<p>Several people from the state, both men and women, have joined ISIS over the last few years. According to government data, accessed by ANI, the majority of people who have joined ISIS from Kerala are from the Kannur city of the state.</p>

<p>As on June 15, nearly 40 people including eight women, from Kannur, have joined the ISIS.</p>

<p>The data further reveals that over the last few years 98 people from Kerala joined the Islamic State, out of which 38 were killed and 60 are still alive and fighting for the terrorist organisation.</p>

<p>Besides Kannur, some misguided people from Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Eranakulam and Thrissur have joined ISIS.</p>

<p>A majority of them were influenced by ISIS through social media. According to sources, most of the pro-ISIS accounts of Malayalee groups are operated from the Gulf countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These groups specifically target Muslims from Kerala. The ISIS, which has made inroads in southern India, could potentially extend support to several radical groups like it did in Sri Lanka.</p>

<p>R R Gangakhedkar, head of Division of Epidemiology Communicable Diseases, Indian Council for Medical Research, said the previous samples were from insectivorous bats, which are not known to be Nipah carriers,&nbsp;<br />

<p>The central medical team is examining the travel history of Mohammad Sabith, 26, the first person to die in the Moosa family that lost four members to the virus infection.</p>

<p>He had travelled to Saudi Arabia, where he worked as a helper and returned to India sometime back.</p>

<p>The central medical team in its report last month had also ruled out pigs to be the primary source of the virus.</p>

<p>A total of 21 samples, including from seven species of bats, two species of pigs, one bovine, and one caprine, were sent to National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal and National Institute of Virology in Pune.</p>

<p>These included samples of bats found in the well near a house in Kerala's Perambra from where the initial death was reported.</p>

<p>Seventeen people - 14 in Kozhikode and 3 in Malappuram - have died due to Nipah virus so far.</p>

<p>Treatment for the virus, which has a mortality rate of about 70 percent, is supportive care.</p>

<p>Symptoms of the virus surfaced in a 20-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man in the port city of Mangalore after they travelled to neighbouring Kerala and had contact with infected patients, said Rajesh BV, a health official in Karnataka.</p>

<p>"They are not confirmed&nbsp;Nipah&nbsp;cases yet, so there is no need to panic," he said by telephone. "The situation is under control."</p>

<p>The patients are being treated and samples of their blood have been sent for screening, with results expected by Thursday, he added.</p>

<p>Health officials investigating the outbreak in Kerala, where the first death happened on Friday, have traced it to a well infested with bats from which the victims drew water.</p>

<p>Human-to-human transmission of the virus has been recorded in previous outbreaks in India that killed as many as 50 people.</p>

<p>He declined to comment on the Mangalore cases but identified the districts of Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad for tourists in Kerala to avoid, as being close to the outbreak and under scrutiny by health officials.</p>

<p>"Since there are many foreigners who travel to Kerala, we are advising they can avoid these districts for abundant caution," he told.</p>

<p>A nurse who treated three of the Kerala victims succumbed to the infection on Monday, Health Minister K.K. Shailaja told a news briefing, where she announced payment of compensation to her family and others who lost family members to the infection.</p>

<p>At least 17 patients are under treatment, Shailaja added.</p>

<p>"All steps to prevent the spread of the virus have been taken," she added, urging people not to destroy colonies of fruit bats.</p>
