The vast programme launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs also envisages big madrassa reform whereby the teachers there would be trained by various institutions in mainstream subjects such as Hindi, English, Maths, Science and computers.

The government is expected to launch the madrassa programme next month.

The scholarship to the students will ensure that it includes 50 per cent of girls in it. The Minority Affairs minister MA Naqvi said that girls from minority communities who have dropped out of school will be linked to education and employment through 'bridge courses' from reputed educational institutions of the country.

The 3Es approach - education, employment and empowerment - has been adopted for the educational and socio-economic advancement of various minority communities in the country. It would include more than 10 lakh Begum Hazarat Mahal girl scholarship in the next five years for economically weaker sections.

"The campaign will be focused on girls. The awareness campaign will include 'Nukkad Natak', short films and cultural programmes. The campaign will be launched in 60 minority concentrated districts of the country in the first phase," said Naqvi.

The Modi government is a dispensation committed to "samaveshi vikas, sarvsparshi vishwas (inclusive growth with trust)," he added.

Naqvi said schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, girls hostels, gurukul-type residential schools and common service centres are being constructed on a war-footing under the Pradhanmantri Jan Vikas Karykram (PMJVK) in areas devoid of educational infrastructure.

The minister also said that free coaching for central and state administrative services, banking services, staff selection commission, railways and other competitive services will be provided to economically weaker sections from minority communities.

Inside a stifling bamboo shanty, eight-year-old Saleema Khanam throws a bright yellow shawl over her head and steps out into the enormous Bangladesh refugee camp tightly clutching her treasured Koran.

She is the only girl in her local madrassa -- or Islamic seminary -- catering to Rohingya children driven from Buddhist-majority Myanmar by a wave of genocidal violence.

Since formal schooling -- which suggests a permanent presence -- is not allowed in the camps, for many children the madrassas are the only places to learn.

It is just a short distance from Saleema's family's shack to the school, one of thousands to spring up in the world's largest refugee camp since a massive influx of Rohingya Muslims last year.

She steps carefully through the crowded alleyways in Kutupalong with her blue-bound Koran held tight to her chest, removes her shoes and enters the dimly-lit classroom.

Inside, more than a dozen young boys with white prayer caps rock back and forth, reciting passages from the Islamic holy book.

She takes her position in the front, flanked by two brothers, and opens the book.

"I come here to learn the Koran. My mother wants me and my brothers to learn, to become a better person," the young student told AFP.

The Rohingya are a deeply conservative Muslim minority from western Myanmar, where decades of state-sanctioned oppression and violent persecution has forced them out in droves.

An army purge that began in August 2017 has forced more than 700,000 Rohingya over the border into Bangladesh -- most of them children.

New generation&nbsp;

Islamic schools and houses of worship were torched in the crackdown by Myanmar troops and Buddhist gangs that UN fact-finders said amounted to crimes against humanity and genocide against the Rohingya.

"By targeting our madrassas and mosques, they tried erase our culture and religion from Rakhine," said Rohingya activist Rafique bin Habib, referring to Myanmar's westernmost state where the minority dwelled.

"But many of our top madrassa teachers survived and fled to Bangladesh, where they have set up schools in the camps so that our new generation can be deeply rooted in our culture and religion."

Bangladesh, which hosts one million of the displaced Muslims in camps near the border, is determined the Rohingya will be returned to Myanmar.&nbsp;

Some of the madrassas are attached to prominent mosques and large enough for 400 students.

Others, like Saleema's, cannot fit many more than a dozen children.

Classes are taught not just in the Rohingya language but also in Bengali, Arabic, Urdu and English.

"These madrassas play an essential role in the survival of the Rohingya language," said bin Habib.

As the call to prayer sounds across the camps, the boys in Saleema's class file out to the local mosque to perform their ablutions before the Friday sermon.

The police were informed on April 21 by the girl’s father that she had gone missing from Ghazipur in east Delhi after she went to the market. Subsequently, the girl was rescued from the madrassa on April 22 by a Delhi Police team and the “juvenile” apprehended, the police said.

The victim had recorded her statement in front of a magistrate on April 23. She had said the accused had taken her to the madrassa to meet his friends.

Around 30 students of a madrassa in the Bhiwandi township here suffered from suspected food poisoning after having a meal at a function, an official said today.

The children were served food at a feast organised by a person at the madrassa on Tuesday afternoon, Bhiwandi&#39;s tehsildar Shashikant Gaikwad said.

The students, all boys aged around 12 to 15, complained of vomiting, nausea, stomachache and giddiness yesterday following which they were rushed to the government-run IGM hospital in Bhiwandi, he said.

Later, as the health of some of the children started deteriorating, all of them were shifted to the Nair Hospital in neighbouring Mumbai, he said.

Gaikwad visited the children at the hospital last night and said they all were out of danger.

An investigation was on into the incident, he added.&nbsp;

Two unidentified men have allegedly mixed rat poison in the water supply of a madrassa in Aligarh, the Times of India reported Monday.&nbsp;

The Madrassa Chacha Nehru is run by the Al Noor Charitable Society which is headed by former vice president Hamid Ansari&#39;s wife, Salma.&nbsp;

Two&nbsp;FIRs have been registered under IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 506 (criminal intimidation).&nbsp;

The TOI reported madrassa warden Junaid Siddiqui as saying the miscreants were spotted&nbsp;by a student.&nbsp;

When he asked them what they were doing, one of them told him to keep quiet.

Siddiqui said the other was carrying a country-made pistol.&nbsp;

The student later found a rat poison wrapper, allegedly left behind by the duo, which he handed over to the warden.&nbsp;

The madrassa&#39;s students were immediately alerted and directed to a different water source, Siddiqui told TOI.&nbsp;

Two unidentified men have allegedly mixed rat poison in the water supply of a madrassa in Aligarh, the Times of India reported Monday. The Madrassa Chacha Nehru is run by the Al Noor Charitable Society which is headed by former vice president Hamid Ansari's wife, Salma. Two FIRs have been registered under IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Aligarh senior superintendent of police Rajesh Pandey said the police had collected samples of the water for examining. The TOI reported madrassa warden Junaid Siddiqui as saying the miscreants were spotted by a student. The student saw two men mixing some tablets in a water tank. When he asked them what they were doing, one of them told him to keep quiet. Siddiqui said the other was carrying a country-made pistol. The student later found a rat poison wrapper, allegedly left behind by the duo, which he handed over to the warden. The madrassa's students were immediately alerted and directed to a different water source, Siddiqui told TOI. There are some 4,000 students enrolled with the madrassa. TOI reported Salma Ansari as saying the incident was "shocking and scary". She added that the madrassa would be instaling CCTVs on campus.
