Since it is a constitutional reform, it necessitates a meeting of both houses of parliament for it to be ratified and Macron has yet to announce a date for the same.

The European Union might put tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) from China as early as June. This comes after the EU launched an investigation into whether China unfairly supports its own EV manufacturers. The latest they can impose these tariffs is July 4th.

China “cannot afford to have more and more restrictions to the European market”, Vasselier says, but at the same time, “China does not have an offer for Europe at this point”.

"Over the next decade... there is an immense risk of (Europe) being weakened or even relegated," he added, also pointing to the risk of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.&nbsp;

Macron said the risk is that Europe will experience a decline and that despite all the efforts "we are already starting to see this".

He said he stood by his comments, which he said were a policy of "strategic ambiguity".

"Do we have limits in ensuring the security of Europeans? No," he added.

The French president called on Europe to be more self-reliant saying that it should bring about a change as in the past, the continent was over-dependent on Moscow for energy and Washington for security.

He said the required "sine qua non" for European security was "that Russia does not win the war of aggression in Ukraine".

"We need to build this strategic concept of a credible European defence for ourselves," Macron said, adding Europe could not be "a vassal" of the United States.&nbsp;

Additionally, Macron also highlighted&nbsp;provisions for family involvement, allowing them to appeal decisions regarding end-of-life assistance.&nbsp;

The proposed bill stems from the deliberations of a citizen group comprising 184 randomly selected people. Their discussions culminated in substantial support, with 76 per cent&nbsp;in favour of some form of end-of-life assistance, showing&nbsp;a broad consensus among the public.

The decision to advance end-of-life legislation aligns with recent social reforms, including the constitutional protection of abortion rights. Macron's support for these measures is also aimed at solidifying&nbsp;his image as a progressive leader ahead of the upcoming European parliamentary elections, as his party faces challenges from far-right opposition.

However, the announcement has irked religious leaders in the traditionally Catholic country as well as many health workers.&nbsp;

If sanctioned by medical professionals, a lethal substance would be prescribed to the patient, who may self-administer it or receive assistance from a third party if physically incapable. According to the text, this third party could be a volunteer, the attending doctor, or a nurse, and the administration could occur at the patient's residence, in nursing homes, or in care facilities.

Upon a request for assistance in dying, medical experts would have a 15-day window to respond, with approval valid for three months, during which the patient retains the option to revoke the decision, as stated by Macron.

In instances where medical professionals decline the request, the patient retains the option to seek consultation from another medical team or appeal the decision, Macron added.
