Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: 6 Countries outside India where Lord Ganesha is worshipped

<p>The 10-day-long festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is coming to its conclusion on September 17. Before the end of this year's celebration, actor Salman Khan visited the residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.</p>

<p>Salman visited CM Eknath Shinde's residence with his sister Arpita Khan to seek blessings from the god on Saturday (Sept 14).&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Sunday, the politician shared some photos of&nbsp;Salman and&nbsp;Arpita's visit.&nbsp;<br />

In the pictures, Salman and Arpita can be seen standing in front of Lord Ganesh's idol. In the next photo, Shinde can be seen offering the <em>Sikandar</em> actor a bouquet and an orange shawl. Arpita was also honoured with a bouquet and a shawl.</p>

<p>A Brazilian fashion clothes brand has removed ads for its line of shorts for men and women that used an image of Lord Ganesha, in response to complaints of sacrilege.</p>

<p>The Jon Cotre brand based in Sao Paulo state said the ads were removed from its website and it stopped making the shorts.</p>

<p>"I apologise on behalf of the company for what happened. Our intention was never to 'trivialise' or offend," a spokeswoman for the firm said.</p>

<p>India's ambassador in Brazil, Suresh Reddy, spoke to the company's owner Jon Cotre to explain the sensitivities related to using images of Lord Ganesha, the embassy said.</p>

<p>Cotre immediately agreed to remove the images and material from his stores, the embassy said in a statement.</p>

<p>A Hindu cleric based in the United States, Rajan Zed, had criticised the inappropriate commercial use of Lord Ganesha images, complaining about "religious appropriation, sacrilege and ridiculing entire communities."</p>

<p>The public prosecution issued a statement saying that the woman admitted to breaking the statues and was charged with multiple counts of criminal damage and of insulting a religious symbol.</p>

<p>She will be tried in court, it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The video, that made rounds on the social media, showed two women in a shop, standing near a display of the statues. One of them is seen grabbing statues and smashing them on the ground.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is a Muslim country, correct?" one woman is heard saying to a man in the shop.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Let us see who will worship these statues. Call the cops," the other says.</p>

<p>The video sparked condemnation from netizens.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khalid al-Khalifa, an advisor to the king of Bahrain and former foreign minister, said the woman's actions were unacceptable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Breaking of religious symbols is not the nature of the people of Bahrain. It is a crime... of hatred and is rejected," he tweeted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Here, all religions, sects and people coexist."</p>

<p>Bahrain hosts hundreds of thousands of Indian workers live in the country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a U-turn, Australia&#39;s advertising watchdog has ruled that a controversial advertisement featuring Lord Ganesha and other divinities promoting consumption of lamb meat violated the country&#39;s advertising standard code.</p>

<p>The advertisement was released in September by the Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), triggering widespread protests from the Indian community in the country as well across the globe.<br />

Members of the Hindu community of Australia filed a complaint with the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) at that time claiming it had hurt their religious sentiments.</p>

<p>The advertisement also prompted the Indian High Commission in Canberra to lodge a complaint with the Australian government asking for its removal.</p>

<p>Initially, the ASB found that the advertisement by the MLA was not in breach of the code.</p>

<p>Considering several points of submission, the board said after taking into account the Independent Reviewers finding that the board gave insufficient weight to the views of complainants in regards to the Elephant Comment, the board determined that the advertisement breached section 2.1 of the Code and upheld complaints.&quot;</p>

<p>According to the latest decision, the board noted &quot;Lord Ganesha was a deity that signified perfection so to criticise his appearance would be likely to be seen as ridiculing the Hindu religion and by extension some followers of that faith.&quot;</p>

<p>&quot;The majority of the board, therefore, considered that the Elephant comment amount to a depiction or portrayal of material which discriminated against a person on account of their Hindu religion,&quot; the ASB noted.</p>

<p>It further noted that the reference made in the advertisement about elephant in the room was a tongue in cheek way of referring to an unpleasant or negative issue.</p>

<p>It said that the board recognised that the advertiser was known for presenting laid back advertisements with edgy Australian humor.</p>

<p>The advertisement is no longer being broadcast. However, the MLA maintains its advertisement does not discriminate against anyone.</p>

<p>Reacting to the ASBs latest decision, Melbourne-based Hindu community member Karthik Arsu said, &quot;This is a great victory for the entire Hindu Community. The community got united and each and every one contributed to fighting against a giant like Meat &amp; Livestock Australia, we lost in the complaint process, but we stood together and persisted,&quot;</p>

<p>&quot;So happy to receive this good news, still not sure how it will transpire in getting that derogatory advertisement removed from online platforms, but the whole community is feeling ecstatic!&quot; he said.</p>

<p>&quot;The decision reinforces the belief that no one can denigrate a community in Australia on the basis of religion, colour or the size of the community!&quot; he added.</p>

<p>According to Jay Shah of Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP), Australia, &quot;the advertisement was very hurtful and I am happy that ASB accepted my review plea and gave a decision in support of Hindu community.&quot;</p>
