National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Modi's BJP is projected to win a two-thirds majority in the lower house of parliament as per most polls. A two-thirds majority means the government will be able to make wide-ranging amendments to the constitution.&nbsp;

The party needed 272 for a simple majority, but some exit polls even predict that the NDA would win 400+ seats–similar to what BJP and allies have reiterated during&nbsp;the campaigning through their slogan 'Abki baar 400 paar', meaning this time, beyond 400.&nbsp;

The sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections witnessed the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency (PC) scripting history as it recorded a voter turnout of 51.35 per cent, which was the highest in around last 35 years, i.e. since 1989.

This comprised of Anantnag, Poonch, Kulgam, and the districts of Rajouri and Shopian.

With this, all three parliamentary constituencies in the Kashmir valley, which include Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri, have recorded the highest voter turnouts in several decades, the Election Commission said in a press release.

Srinagar recorded a voter turnout of 38.49 per cent, Baramulla recorded 59.1 per cent, and Anantnag-Rajouri at 51.35 per cent.

The Commission led by CEC Rajiv Kumar and ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu said, "People of Jammu and Kashmir, in the Anantnag Rajouri PC polling too, have reposed faith in democracy and proved naysayers wrong."

<h2>J-K registers voter turnout of 58%, says Chief Electoral Officer</h2>

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole said that the Union Territory recorded an overall voter turnout of 58 per cent.

"Today voting was held for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Lok Sabha seat. A voter turnout of approximately 53 per cent was recorded. The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Surankote assembly segment while the lowest was recorded in the Kulgam Assembly segment," Pole told reporters.

"As far as the poll percentage is concerned in Union Territory... in 1989 the poll percentage was 29.93 per cent, in 1996, the poll percentage was 47.99 per cent, in 1998, it was 43.35 per cent, in 1999, it was 30.89 per cent, in 2004 it was 34.07 per cent, in 2009, it was 39. 04 per cent, in 2014 it was 49.58 per cent, and in 2019 it was 44. 07 per cent and it was 58 per cent in 2024," he added.

The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections held on Saturday (May 25) saw a voter turnout of 61.20 per cent, the lowest among all phases so far, according to data till 11:45 pm.&nbsp;In the 2019 general elections, the corresponding phase had a turnout of 64.4 per cent.

Uttar Pradesh reported a 54.03 per cent voter turnout in the sixth phase.&nbsp;Other states' turnouts were as follows - Jharkhand at 63.76 per cent, Uttar Pradesh at 54.03 per cent, Bihar at 55.24 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir at 54.3 per cent, Haryana at 60.4 per cent, Odisha at 69.56 per cent, and Delhi at 57.67 per cent, based on the EC's voter turnout app updated at 11:45 pm.

The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 58 parliamentary constituencies witnessed a cumulative voter turnout of 59.06 per cent as of 7:45 pm.&nbsp;

By that time, West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout of 78.19 per cent, followed by Jharkhand 62.74 per cent, Odisha 60.07 per cent, Haryana 58.37 per cent, Delhi 54.48 per cent, Uttar Pradesh 54.03 per cent, Bihar 53.30 per cent, and Jammu and Kashmir 52.28 per cent.&nbsp;

The sixth phase of the general elections included eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal.&nbsp;

This phase includes some of the key seats which are, New Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi and Chandni Chowk in the national capital, and Sultanpur and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag-Rajouri, West Bengal's Tamluk, Medinipur, Haryana's Karnal, Kurukshetra, Gurgaon, Rohtak, and Odisha's Bhubaneswar, Puri and Sambalpur are some of the other key seats.

<h2>Polling marred by violence</h2>

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that its candidate from West Bengal's Jhargram, Pranat Tudu, was attacked by miscreants in Garbeta while he was visiting the polling booth in Monglapota.

"We got information yesterday that BJP voters in Monglapota are not being allowed to vote. Due to this, we came to this area to check what was the problem. Here around 200 people attacked us with lathis, stones and some weapons. We could have been murdered if Central forces would not have been there...We did not get any protection from the local police...Didi doesn't want to impose CAA and make the country into Pakistan," said Tudu.

Several others were also wounded in the incident.

Tudu further said that because TMC was afraid of its impending defeat, it was resorting to such moves to keep the BJP supporters away from the polling booth.

"We informed the DM, but no security arrangements were made. CISF jawans have received severe injuries on the head and I have been hit on the head. The window panes of our vehicle have been damaged. We have come to file FIR and reported to EC. If TMC feels we are frightened then they are wrong. They know that they will get defeated so they are trying to keep BJP supporters away from the booth. They are doing the same in many booths," he added.

The attack happened as Kumar came out of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in Kartar Nagar after meeting&nbsp;with&nbsp;Councillor Chhaya Sharma.&nbsp;AAP is&nbsp;the governing party in Delhi and also&nbsp;a part of the Congress-led opposition INDIA bloc.

Chhaya Sharma later also accused the men of harassing her. In a police complaint, Sharma said the men snatched away her shawl and threatened her husband.

“After the meeting, when Chhaya Sharma came down to see off Kanhaiya Kumar, some persons came and put a garland around Kanhaiya Kumar. After garlanding him, some persons threw ink on Kanhaiya Kumar and tried to assault him. When Chhaya Sharma tried to intervene, they misbehaved and threatened her,”&nbsp;North East Deputy Commissioner of Police said.

The video of the incident has now gone viral on&nbsp;the internet. A separate video showing the suspects has also surfaced, where they can&nbsp;be seen&nbsp;claiming responsibility for the attack.

The men say they attacked Kanhaiya&nbsp;for speaking against the Indian Army and talking about dividing the nation.&nbsp;"But we will not allow those who talk about dividing the country to enter Delhi,"&nbsp;one man can be heard&nbsp;saying.

Kanhaiya later blamed the attack on his rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the constituency, Manoj Tiwari.&nbsp;In a statement, Kumar said&nbsp;the attack must have been ordered by Tiwari&nbsp;as he was&nbsp;frustrated&nbsp;with his rising popularity.

He added that he had sent goons to attack him&nbsp;but&nbsp;the public would teach him a lesson&nbsp;on May 25, the date Delhi goes to polls.

Last month, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that Chadha has undergone major eye surgery in the United Kingdom and will join the party's Lok Sabha poll campaigning once he is better. He added that the MP had developed a serious eye ailment which could have led to blindness.&nbsp;

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had also said that Chadha will campaign for the party for the elections.&nbsp;

"Raghav Chadha has undergone a major eye surgery in the UK. It is said that his condition was serious and there was a possibility of blindness. As soon as he gets better, he will come back to India and join us in the election campaigning," Bharadwaj had told PTI Videos.&nbsp;

On Saturday (May 18), Chadha, AAP's MP from Punjab, made his first appearance in months.
