Despite financial hardships felt particularly by Gen Z and millennials, the US economy is thriving, with record corporate profits and high prices on shelves. Halim Zukic from the town of Visoko decided to create a park after buying some land and a cottage in a nearby village 20 years ago, but he had no clear idea of what it should look like.

Then, six years ago, as he stood on a hill watching tractors in a hay meadow, he noticed their spiral-shaped wheel tracks in the earth, which reminded him of the swirling motifs in Van Gogh's canvas from 1889.

"From that moment, I was no longer in doubt," Zukic told Reuters. But his vision took time, money and effort to realise.

Zukic wanted the 10-hectare Starry Night park to be part of a larger complex offering a retreat to visitors. He planted more trees and created 13 lakes using existing natural streams.

To match the painting, 130,000 bushes of lavender in six different shades were planted, as well as other medicinal and aromatic herbs such as sage, echinacea, wormwood and chamomile, forming colourful circles, spirals and natural amphitheatres.

Zukic did all the landscaping himself. He said recreating the painting had helped him understand artists and the creative challenges they face.

"This is the largest representation of The Starry Night, and the result of 20 years of dreams, of living those dreams to make them real," he said.

The Starry Night park will focus on art programmes and the promotion of central Bosnia's cultural heritage, Zukic said.

Long COVID, also known as post-COVID-19 condition, is described as symptoms that last for three months or longer following acute COVID-19. The illness can harm several organ systems, resulting in reduced function and symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive impairment (often known as ‘brain fog’), breathing difficulties, and discomfort.

Long COVID can affect almost anyone, including all age groups and children. It is more prevalent in females and those of lower socioeconomic status, and the reasons for such differences are under study. The researchers found that while some people gradually get better from long COVID, in others the condition can persist for years. Many people who developed long COVID before the advent of vaccines are still unwell.

“Long COVID is a devastating disease with a profound human toll and socioeconomic impact,” said Janko Nikolich, MD, PhD, senior author of the paper, director of the Aegis Consortium at the U of A Health Sciences, professor and head of the Department of Immunobiology at the U of A College of Medicine – Tucson, and BIO5 Institute member.

“By studying it in detail, we hope to both understand the mechanisms and to find targets for therapy against this, but potentially also other infection-associated complex chronic conditions such as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.”

If a person has been fully vaccinated and is up to date with their boosters, their risk of long COVID is much lower. However, 3%-5% of people worldwide still develop long COVID after an acute COVID-19 infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, long COVID affects an estimated 4%-10% of the U.S. adult population, and 1 in 10 adults who had COVID develop long COVID.

The review study also found that a wide range of biological mechanisms are involved, including persistence of the original virus in the body, disruption of the normal immune response, and microscopic blood clotting, even in some people who had only mild initial infections.

There are no proven treatments for long COVID yet, and current management of the condition focuses on ways to relieve symptoms or provide rehabilitation. Researchers say there is a dire need to develop and test biomarkers such as blood tests to diagnose and monitor long COVID and to find therapies that address the root causes of the disease.

“Ensuring adolescents get enough sleep is vital, as it supports their physical and mental growth and development,” says lead author Jason Nagata, MD, associate professor of paediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. “Our research found that leaving notifications on, even in silent mode, leads to less sleep compared to turning the phone off completely or keeping it outside the bedroom.”

Turn off the phone. Leaving the phone ringer on or turning notifications to silent or vibrate was associated with less sleep compared to turning the phone off entirely. People can misrepresent their age, gender, &nbsp;sexual preferences and other realities of their life unless there are guardrails built into the system. As a result, there can be difficult or toxic experiences that users of online dating can be vulnerable to."&nbsp;

Another downside associated with the excessive use of dating apps is 'dating app burnout'. A recent survey revealed that on average a user spends 51 minutes on dating apps. Men spend less than 49 minutes a day while women spend around 52 minutes daily.&nbsp;

Scrolling mindlessly on dating platforms can be mentally exhausting. There is always pressure from within to appear 'interesting' to all your potential matches. Before planning pregnancy by having unprotected sex, ideally, men must wait for at least 6 months and women for at least 2 months post-exposure to the virus with or without symptoms or after travelling to an endemic area. The virus is transmitted not only by mosquito bites but also by sexual contact.

According to the CDC (Centre for Disease Control), animal studies have shown that sexual transmission causes more damage to the developing foetus than infection acquired by the pregnant mother through mosquito transmission.&nbsp;

The incubation period and the period during which the infected mosquito can carry and spread the infection are still under research. Most of the individuals affected by the disease will be asymptomatic or symptoms may be mild like fever, rash, red eyes, and joint pain.&nbsp;

Zika virus transmission to the foetus can happen at any time during pregnancy and may result in birth defects like microcephaly, defective brain development, and neurological issues. A child born with minimal birth defects may develop vision disorder, hearing loss, and impaired growth in the future. There may be other pregnancy-related issues,&nbsp;like miscarriage and stillbirth. Hence, it is very important to stay protected throughout the pregnancy. Vaccines and medicines for the virus are not yet developed and are still under research.

Individuals residing in the Zika endemic area would have developed antibodies against the virus. Testing of antibodies doesn’t differentiate between current infection and past infection. The women can test for antibodies before planning pregnancy and compare the values in case there is an infection or exposure post-pregnancy. If the values are negative before pregnancy and the antibodies&nbsp;develop&nbsp;after pregnancy, it may be possibly due to a recent Zika virus infection. But if the antibodies are present even before the pregnancy, then we will not be able to decide if the woman is safe to become pregnant at present, since it is not possible to conclude if the antibody has been raised due to a recent infection, or a past infection.

The antibodies may also be positive due to cross-reactivity with infection of a similar family of virus-like dengue virus, leading to false positivity. Detection of RNA PCR may sometimes give false negative reports due to the presence of less viral load. So, a negative report mandatorily doesn’t eliminate the presence of infection. Hence, it is important to be protected throughout pregnancy.&nbsp;

Prevention includes protection from mosquito bites by using air conditioners at home and workplace, sleeping under mosquito nets, and installing mesh windows and door screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering the premises. Wearing long-sleeved dresses and full pants covering arms and legs, applying permethrin over the dress will add extra protection.

Using EPA-approved repellents with any one of the active components like DEET, IR3535, 2-undecanone, picaridin, and eucalyptus oil is safe during pregnancy. Reapplication of the repellents as per manufacturer instruction is important. Mosquito breeding sites around the premises, like stagnant water from flowerpots, pools, unused tyres, and buckets, must be cleared at regular intervals.

If a pregnant woman is living in an area where the Zika virus is not endemic, then it is recommended not to travel to an area with active Zika virus transmission. If the partner of the pregnant woman lives or has travelled to an area with active transmission of the Zika virus, then it is recommended that they use a barrier method to have sexual intercourse or abstain from sexual contact during pregnancy.

The global leader in luxury wear said Angeloglou will succeed Serge Brunschwig who, after six years in post, "will assume new responsibilities within the LVMH group which will be announced shortly."

LVMH announced the news in a press release to confirm information from the specialised site Women's Wear Daily (WWD).

Angeloglou remains managing director of LVMH Fashion Group, which brings together groups of brands including Celine, Givenchy, Loewe, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs, Patou, Pucci and Rossimoda).
