<p>The ceremony was held at&nbsp;Great Hall of the People. The honour ceremony began with a moment of silence to pay respects to the ones who lost their battle against the virus.</p>

<p>Four "heroes" from the medical field were awarded with medals of honours in the ceremony which was attended by hundreds of masked&nbsp;delegates.</p>

<p>Zhong Nanshan, China's 83-year-old famous medical expert, was also awarded the medal by Xi Jinping. Nanshan is a famous medical expert who also became the face of China in their fight against the coronavirus.</p>

<p>According to their doctors, their abnormal skin colour is caused by hormonal imbalances after their livers were damaged by the virus.</p>

<p>Interestingly, they&nbsp;were colleagues with late whistle-blower Li Wenliang, who was punished for sounding the alarm of the virus and then died of the disease on February 7.</p>

<p>ECMO is a drastic life-support procedure which replaces the function of the heart and lungs by pumping oxygen into the blood outside the body.</p>

<p>It has been proven that COVID-19&nbsp;has an adverse impact on hearling and sensory organs and&nbsp;also leads to brain impairment.</p>

<p>The petition follows outpouring emotions over the death of whistleblower <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/chinese-react-over-coronavirus-doctors-demise-anger-against-government-erupts-online-279295">doctor Li Wenliang</a>, who was reprimanded for issuing an early warning about coronavirus and later died of the disease, triggering widespread outrage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The new virus has so far infected more than 44,000 people and killed more than 1,000 in mainland China, with cases reported in more than 20 other countries.</p>

<p>“It is inexcusable for an intellectual not to step up in the face of a national crisis like this, with an impact that far outweighs the deadly 2008 Sichuan earthquake,” Chen was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>Two months ago, Li, 34, had warned the world about a possible virus outbreak in his country.&nbsp;He had written to fellow doctors about a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/coronavirus-news-chinese-authorities-ignored-early-reports-of-mysterious-coronavirus-by-doctor-report-278301">SARS</a>-like infection in December and had&nbsp;urged them to take precautions so as to not contract the disease.</p>

<p>The authorities had dismissed him as a fear-monger and accused him of spreading rumours.&nbsp;He was asked to sign a letter which accused him of making false statements and&nbsp;then on January 10, Li contracted the disease from a patient he had operated.</p>

<p>From his hospital bed, Li revealed that the outbreak could have been controlled better&nbsp;had the government been proactive.</p>

The Chinese doctor who had flagged the coronavirus outbreak died early morning on Friday. Li Wenliang's death was reported by the Wuhan central hospital, a little after 3 am local time in China. However, there have been conflicting reports about his death.
