In Afghanistan, the systematic assault on, and erasure of, women and their rights is destroying lives and livelihoods. The agency did not mention gang rape&nbsp;in the report, indicating that Roy acted alone to commit the crime.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The victim's body was found the next morning by a junior doctor.&nbsp;The post-mortem report&nbsp;revealed that the victim had suffered&nbsp;25 internal and external injuries.&nbsp;

Roy was caught on CCTV footage, entering the seminar room at 4:03 am on August 9 and came out after approximately half an hour. His Bluetooth earphone was also recovered from the scene of the crime which helped the authorities in indicting him.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The chargesheet states that Roy attempted to mislead the investigators during the probe when CBI came into the picture. During the lie-detector test, Roy claimed innocence, stating that the victim was already unconscious when he entered the hall.&nbsp;

Quizzed why he did not inform anyone about the incident, Roy said he was in a state of panic after seeing the woman injured.

While essential services will be resuming, the Outpatient Department (OPD) and Occupational Therapy (OT) services will remain suspended.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"We are returning to work on Saturday and will resume essential services. OPD and OT services will remain suspended because we want to ensure that measures are taken to ensure the security of female colleagues," the protesting doctors said.&nbsp;

Notably, the doctors will be organising a rally from Swasthya Bhawan (ground zero of the protests) to the CGO complex on Friday (Sep 20)&nbsp;to end the protest.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court on&nbsp;Tuesday (Sep 17)&nbsp;said the details submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its status report regarding the state's role in the case were "really disturbing" and that the court itself was troubled by it.

“I won’t give details of the day here because it will dislocate the investigation. We don’t want someone to take advantage of it as a technical issue later on. But what the CBI has revealed in its status report is really disturbing," Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud had said while presiding over a three-judge bench.

The CBI report highlighted the series of flaws in the investigation, including the fact that the victim's clothes were not even sent for the post-mortem. The bench came down heavily on the state and raised questions about evidence tampering and police complicity, leading to the arrest of the station house officer (SHO) of the area.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has invited the protesting doctors for one last meeting to address their issues. The doctors also requested that a videographer be allowed inside the Bengal CM's premises to record the meeting. However, Mamata refused to allow any of the demands saying the case was sub-judice.&nbsp;

“As RG Kar issue is before the court, we cannot allow live streaming.&nbsp;I will do the minutes, sign it as well," said Mamata.&nbsp;

She also berated the protesting doctors by claiming they had "insulted" her by requesting the meeting but refusing to enter the house.&nbsp;“I have waited for 2 hours”, the CM added.

That is how patriarchy is," West Bengal minister Chandrima Bhattacharya was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Chandrima Bhattacharya also labelled an upcoming protest march announced by the students' organisation as a plot to cause more chaos.

“There is a BJP-ABVP plot to create disturbance. There is a plot to open fire by criminals in police uniforms. Tomorrow there are exams. Can students do this? They are doing vulture politics,” Bhattacharya said.

“No permission has been sought from the police for such a protest. Protests can take place, but they must seek permission and be held peacefully at designated places,” she added.

Protests and marches have been taking place in Kolkata and other regions of the country since the doctor was raped and killed inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with her body found in the seminar hall of the institute.

Protesters are demanding stringent action against the suspects involved and improved safety measures for women. The incident has also highlighted the 'inhumane' 36-hour shifts that, as the Supreme Court called it, doctors in India endure. The CBI is probing the incident and has conducted polygraph tests on the main accused and six others. CBI also registered a case of alleged financial irregularities at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College on Saturday.
