The evacuation process to repatriate Indians in Maldives will commence from Friday&nbsp;with INS Jalashwa carrying 750 citizens to Kochi in Kerala as part of the first phase of the operation called "Samudra Setu".

"Evacuation operation will be conducted in two phases - first to Kochi in Kerala and second to Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. It will be a big relief for Indians," Indian envoy to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir said.

"For Maldives, we will witness evacuation operation in next few days, the largest ever evacuation in our history," the Indian envoy to Maldives added.

India's ministry of defence said that evacuees will undergo mandatory quarantine as per SOPs in the quarantine facilities run by Army, Navy and Air Force in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

"Armed Forces have kept in readiness six quarantine facilities that can accommodate up to 2,100 Indians being evacuated from several countries," the ministry of defence said.

The defence ministry said that it had dispatched Naval ships with medical teams and aid supplies to several countries in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) in an effort to bring back the stranded Indians.

The local police&nbsp;on Thursday took over the control of the St Mary's Church and evicted scores of Jacobites, who were protesting outside the worship place in Piravom.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that strict actions will be taken against those who are spreading fake messages.

"Some people spreading news that all dams are going to be opened. Another one is that petrol pumps will be closed. We should take it seriously," he said.

"In our state, there is no fuel crisis. We have enough stock. We are facing a serious disaster and we can face it together," he added.&nbsp;

According to the officials, while Nipah helpline has received 39 calls on Saturday itself, a total of 557 phone calls were received by the control room so far.

The training programmes that are being given at the block level will be expanded to the panchayat and municipal levels to fight the Nipah virus, it added.

Impressed by the fully solar-powered operations at the Cochin International Airport, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said it should be an inspiring model for energy guzzlers and suggested that stadiums can tap the natural resource for achieving power neutrality.

During his brief stopover visit on Saturday, Modi hailed the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) for being the world's first fully solar-powered airport, a statement issued by the CIAL said here on Sunday.

During a discussion with CIAL Managing Director VJ Kurian, the prime minister endorsed the effort in tapping green energy for operating the airport, which has won it the United Nations Champions of the Earth award in 2018, the statement said.

The CIAL model of solarisation should inspire all other high-energy consumers, Modi said, adding that the possibilities of laying solar panels at probable locations needed to be explored. He also suggested that the roof of the galleries of stadiums could be used for that.

"Achieving power neutrality for big energy consumers is important for our country," the CIAL statement quoted the prime minister as having said.

Modi also instructed the CIAL to render its expertise for a massive deployment of solar energy, in tune with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), an organisation of 78 countries which was formed by his initiative.

As part of the ISA's project, envoys of 40 countries visited the CIAL's solar power plants last month.

The prime minister was in Kerala on Saturday. He offered prayers at the famous <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/kerala-is-as-significant-to-me-as-varanasi-pm-modi-in-guruvayur-225392">Lord Krishna temple at Guruvayur in Thrissur</a> district.

Modi met the CIAL officials before leaving for Maldives from the airport here on Saturday afternoon.

The CIAL at present is one of the largest green energy companies in the country with a total installed capacity of 40 MWp.

The airport, on an average, receives 1.62 lakhs units of power a day from the solar plant, whereas the daily consumption stands at around 1.52 lakhs units.

Mishap at Kochi Naval base, two sailors dead

A 32-year-old man, who abandoned his newborn baby at a church in Kochi, allegedly committed the offence out of fear that he would be shamed socially for siring a fourth child, police said on Saturday.

Bitto and his wife Prabitha (28), from Thrissur district, were arrested this morning for abandoning their newborn child at St George Forane Church in Edappally last evening, they said.

The two, having four kids including the abandoned two-day-old infant, were traced from Wadakkancherry, they added.

The woman allegedly joined her husband in committing the crime after being discharged from the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur, where she delivered the baby.

During the preliminary probe, Bitto told the investigation team that the offence was committed out of fear that they would be shamed socially for siring a fourth child, police said.

They were allegedly laughed at by friends and locals for Prabitha being continuously pregnant.

Police, however, said a detailed investigation was required to reach a final conclusion in the case.

The two have been charged under IPC Section 317(exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years, by parent or person having care of it) and Juvenile Justice Act, Section 75 (punishment for cruelty to child), police said.

CCTV camera footage aired by television channels and circulated on social media since last night showed a couple leaving the child in the premises of the church.

The security staff of the church noticed the child at around 8.30 pm and immediately alerted the police.

In the footage, the couple along with another child was seen walking into the church around 8.15 pm with the baby wrapped in an orange sheet.

The father kissed the baby on its forehead before carefully placing the infant on the ground of the church.

The baby was admitted to a private hospital immediately after the incident.

Hospital sources said the infant was healthy.

Scared they would be shamed for having 4th child, Kerala couple abandon baby

A Kochi-bound flight from Ahmedabad with 150 passengers was diverted to the Vadodara airport today due to a medical emergency on board.

The flight made an emergency landing and the sick passenger, who had suffered a cardiac arrest, was immediately rushed to the state government-run Sir Sayajirao general hospital.

However, the passenger was declared brought dead, an airport official said.&nbsp;

"The 38-year-old passenger had complained of uneasiness in chest following which the plane was diverted to Vadodara airport where it made an emergency landing," the official said.

Airport authorities had made all the arrangements including a '108 ambulance' for rushing the passenger to the hospital and provide him medical assistance at the earliest on landing of the aircraft, the official added.

The deceased was one of the members of a group of 35 people travelling together that included a doctor who provided medical treatment to the passenger in the aircraft, according to the official.

The stranded flight took off for its destination at around 1600 hours, the official added.

IndiGo confirmed that the flight 6E-667 was diverted to Vadodara due to a medical emergency.

"On expressing the uneasiness while the plane was airborne, the passenger was checked by one of the travelling doctors on board. Observing this situation, the crew immediately informed the Captain-in-Command who further alerted the Airport Operation Control Centre (AOCC) to arrange for medical assistance and to provide for an ambulance at the Vadodara airport," the airline said in a statement.

First-aid was provided to the passenger by our crew with the help of an onboard doctor.

On the landing of the aircraft, the passenger was immediately rushed to the hospital along with IndiGo staff member.

After a thorough examination by doctor, the passenger was declared dead.

We understand the gravity of such situations hence IndiGo team ensured that passenger received all necessary medical attention on board and from on-ground staff, it said.&nbsp;

Apart from a fleet of low-floor buses and autos plying as metro feeders,&nbsp;&nbsp;a&nbsp;water metro will soon join the Kochi Metro giving the city a multi-dimension mobility network, especially for people living in the backwaters.

The rooftops of all metro stations have been set up with solar panels in order to generate power.

A special provision for wheelchairs, special coaches for people with disabilities, multiple USB ports for charging mobile phones, and cushioned seats for the disabled and pregnant women are some key features of the metro.

The minimum fare has been capped at Rs&nbsp;10, while an end-to-end ride, from Aluva and Palarivattom or vice-versa costs Rs 40. 
 
Considered the fasted completed metro project in the country, the estimated cost of completion&nbsp;of the Kochi Metro is Rs 5,181.79 crore.
