<p>This attack came a day after Russia struck&nbsp;the village of Pisky-Radkivski with the high-speed Tornado-S multiple rocket launch system. In a post on Telegram, Governor&nbsp; Syniehubov said that the&nbsp;body of a 72-year-old woman was retrieved from the rubble, and two civilians, a man and a woman, were taken to the hospital.</p>

<p>On Thursday, Russian shelling&nbsp;killed three people and injured nine in the Borova&nbsp;village in northeastern Kharkiv, the news agency Reuters reported, citing regional authorities.</p>

<p>The interior ministry had earlier reported emergency services were working at the site of the initial attack when Moscow's troops shelled it again.</p>

<p>President Zelensky told CNN on Friday that&nbsp;Ukrainian troops were suffering high losses because Western arms were arriving too slowly to equip the armed forces properly.</p>

<h2><strong>Russia launches missile attacks on Kyiv</strong></h2>

<p>Russia launched three missiles overnight on Ukraine, out of which air defence systems over Kyiv destroyed two, said Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, on Sunday, in a post on Telegram. However, he did not say what happened to the third missile.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Ukrainian capital, its surrounding region and several others across the war-torn country were under air raid alerts for about an hour on Sunday morning, starting at 4:50 am (local time), reported Reuters.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Ukraine launches drone attack</strong></h2>

<p>Ukraine launched dozens of drones overnight targeting several Russian regions, said local officials on Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least 30 drones were destroyed over the Russian region of Bryansk, which borders Ukraine, said the regional governor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Several drones were also destroyed over the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin, governor of the region in Russia’s west said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per preliminary information, there were no casualties or destruction in either region, the governors said.</p>

<h2><strong>Apartment building in Kharkiv attacked</strong></h2>

<p>Ukrainian officials said four Russian guided bombs hit an apartment building in Kharkiv. Images from the site show parts of the five-storey building in ruins with windows smashed, balconies wrecked and rubble scattered around a crater created on the ground due to the attack.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kharkiv Police Chief Serhiy Bolvinov, as per Reuters, told public broadcaster Suspilne that three floors had collapsed, but they believe no one was trapped under the rubble.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The attack prompted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for more military aid for Kyiv to help deal with the growing threat of such weapons.</p>

<p>A report by news agency AFP citing the regional military administration said Russian artillery shelling killed a civilian in Zaporizhzhia. A policeman manning a checkpoint was killed in a drone attack in the southern Kherson region, said the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in Donetsk, regional head Vadym Filashkin said five civilians were killed by shelling in frontline areas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The number of dead has grown to 14," said&nbsp;Synegubov, adding that&nbsp;nearly 200 rescuers worked at the scene.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, Synegubov had said that six people had “died on the spot,” 40 were wounded and 16 were missing after two guided Russian bombs hit the store. The death toll was later revised to 11.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a video on the messaging app, Synegubov said that two of those killed “were men who worked in the hypermarket”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Epitsentr chain sells household&nbsp;hardware and DIY goods. Lyubov, a cleaner at the store who was still in her uniform, told the news agency that it was all very sudden and recalled how she escaped the building. &nbsp;</p>

<p>“It happened all of a sudden. We didn’t understand at first, everything went dark and everything started falling on our heads,” said Lyubov.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She added, “It was good that my phone lit up, thanks to the flashlight I found where to go, but in front of us everything was burning already.”</p>

<p>Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said around 120 people had been in the hardware store when the bombs struck.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The attack targeted the shopping centre, where there were many people – this is clearly terrorism,” said Terekhov.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A report by Russian state news agency TASS citing a security source claimed that the missile strike destroyed a “military store and command post” inside the shopping centre.</p>

<p>The missile, according to Reuters, also left a crater several metres deep in the pavement at the foot of the building, which also had a post office, a beauty salon and a cafe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Ukrainian attacks on Saturday in Russia’s Belgorod which is close to the Ukrainian border killed at least four&nbsp;people, said regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gladkov took to Telegram and said three people were killed in the village of Oktyabrsky in a multiple rocket attack and one man died after being taken to a hospital.</p>

<p>The two shelling incidents, according to the Russian official, also left 12 people injured.&nbsp;</p>

Death toll after Russian strike on hardware store in Kharkiv rises to 14: Ukrainian governor

<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday (May 25) said that over 200 people were feared inside a DIY superstore which was hit by Russia in the northeastern city of Kharkiv.</p>

<p>"As of now, we know that more than 200 people could have been inside the hypermarket," Zelensky said on Telegram.</p>

<p>He further condemned the daylight attack on an "obviously civilian" target.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This came after Ukrainian officials said that a Russian strike at a hardware superstore in the eastern city of Kharkiv claimed the lives of two and wounded 33 others.</p>

<p>Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov said that "two Russian guided bombs hit a construction hypermarket".</p>

<p>"Two people were killed. They were men who worked in the hypermarket," Synegubov said in a video posted on Telegram. "The number of wounded has gone up to 33 people," he added in a later post.</p>

<p>The firefighters, as per news agency AFP said that the fire was raging over an area of 10,000 square metres, however, they managed to stop it from spreading.</p>

<p>"There were a lot of workers and shoppers inside," he added.</p>

<p>Kharkiv mayor Igor Terekhov said that as per the owner of the building, 15 people working at the store had not been in contact and around 200 people were present in the store when the strike hit.</p>

<p>He denounced the attack calling it "pure terrorism".</p>

<p>At least one boy was killed when a Russian missile strike allegedly targeted civilian infrastructure in the western Ukraine region of Ivano-Frankivsk, the prosecutors said on Friday (August 11). This is an infrequent attack in the western region.&nbsp;Ukrainian officials said that Russia used hypersonic missiles and hit areas near a military airfield.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement, they said: "The missiles hit territory near a private house in the Kolomyia district, where a family with three children lived. An 8-year-old boy died as a result of the shelling. Information about other victims is currently being verified."&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Svitlana Onyshchuk, who is the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk region military administration, the child had been taken to the hospital in critical condition, but doctors couldn't save him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Onyshchuk said that one missile crashed into the grounds of a family's home in the Kolomyia district, injuring several people including the boy, who died.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The air force said that air defences shot down one of the four Kinzhal missiles near the capital Kyiv as they hurtled towards western Ukraine hundreds of miles from the front.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Telegram it said: "One X-47 (hypersonic) missile was destroyed within Kyiv region. The rest hit near the airfield. Civilian infrastructure was damaged, and one of the missiles hit a residential area."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Colonel Yuriy Ihnat of the Ukrainian Air Force said that the attack was directed at Ukrainian pilots who were preparing to travel to the West to train to fly F-16 fighter jets, which Kyiv believes will eventually be provided.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said on television: "They (the pilots) will be trained on new equipment - the F-16 - and the enemy wanted to strike our young people, depriving us of the prospect of using the new Western equipment."&nbsp;</p>

Russian missile strike kills child in west Ukraine, shelling intensifies in Kharkiv region

<p>Russia is reportedly amassing 100,000 troops to obliterate Kyiv’s defences in the Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian army has said. Moscow is challenging Kyiv’s defences in the eastern sector of Kupiansk as Ukrainian forces are concentrating on the counteroffensive efforts on the southern front, Ukraine’s Army Command East spokesman Serhiy Cherevatyi said on Monday.</p>

<p>He said that Russia has gathered around 100,000 troops, 900 tanks and 555 artillery systems in the area.</p>

<p>“They are concentrating everything in order to break through our defence. Our soldiers are firmly on the defensive. They do not allow the enemy to seize the initiative,” Cherevatyi was quoted as saying by Politico.</p>

<p>Cherevatyi also said that Russia had ordered Storm-Z ex-convict battalions to prepare for battle and was firing more than 500 shells per day at Ukrainian forces around Kupyansk.</p>

<p>Kupyansk is a town in the northeastern Kharkiv region of Ukraine. Kyiv recaptured the town, which previously had a population of 25,000 people&nbsp;in September last year.</p>

<p>Ukrainian Army Land Forces Commander General Oleksandr Syrsky also confirmed that Russia has gathered its forces to attack the Kupiansk region, however, it has been unable to break through so far.</p>

<p>Syrsky commands Ukraine’s operations around the key battleground of Bakhmut, where Kyiv has managed to seize the initiative and retake high ground around the destroyed city after Russia occupied it earlier this year.</p>

<h2><strong>Russia trains guns at&nbsp;Black Sea coast</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, Russia launched fresh missile attacks on Ukraine's Black Sea coast, days after it backed out of extending the grain deal.</p>

<p>The missiles damaged 60,000 tonnes of grain and damaged storage infrastructure.</p>

<p>Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskyi said a "considerable amount" of export infrastructure was out of operation, BBC reported.</p>

<p>He said that the 60,000 tonnes destroyed in the strike were "supposed to be loaded on a large-tonnage ship and sent through the grain corridor 60 days ago".</p>

<p>Hours later, Russia's defence ministry declared that from Wednesday night, any ships heading to Ukrainian ports would be viewed as potential carriers of military cargo and party to the conflict.</p>

<p>Some north-western and south-eastern areas of the Black Sea would be temporarily dangerous for shipping, it added.</p>

<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said each missile strike was a blow not just to Ukraine, but to "everyone in the world striving for a normal and safe life".</p>
