As per new regulations, the visa fees for Nepali guides and staff assisting the pilgrims from India and other countries to Tibet and Kailash have increased from $30 to $120. While for permits to acquire a visa, Nepalese will now have to pay $300 while earlier it was $100.&nbsp;

Additionally, another inconvenience for Nepali firms operating tours to Kailash Manasarovar is that they have to deposit $60,000 (8 million Nepali rupees) each to send Indian pilgrims to Tibet.&nbsp;

Nepal’s central bank does not allow Nepali travel agencies to deposit funds in foreign banks. Top tour operators in Nepal —Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal,&nbsp;Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) and The Association of Kailash Tour Operators Nepal (AKTON)—have written to the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song.&nbsp;

"The Foreign Exchange Centre (FEC) under the Tibet Autonomous Region, the body responsible for issuing permits for Indian pilgrims, has banned Nepali tourism businessmen who oversee Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for Indian pilgrims. We would like to inform you that a mandatory deposit of sixty thousand US dollars (about 8 million Nepalese rupees) has been made for a Nepalese company to handle Indian pilgrims to Kailash Yatra. This arrangement is contrary to the rules and laws of Nepal," the letter by the association, which WION has access to, states.

Meanwhile, for Indians, China has increased the cost of the Kailash tour package to 2,50,000 Indian rupees (US $3,000 approx.) from Rs 1,50,000 (US $1,800 approx.) per person, as per the Tibet Tourism Bureau.

The new rules further state that Indian pilgrims should be in a group of at least five people to obtain visas, and at least four of them should be present physically.&nbsp;

"Now, tourists going to Kailash and Lhasha have to be present for biometrics for applying for a visa. Tourists and Nepali tourism entrepreneurs are now in a dilemma with this unpractical rule," Nepal tour operators said in the letter.&nbsp;

Earlier, Chinese authorities used to collect biometric details at the immigration office at the border points.

The tour operators told WION that permit applications for Indians have not yet begun thus putting the Nepali tourism sector under pressure.&nbsp;

From 2014 to 2019, over 100,000 Indian nationals have been to Manasarovar via Nepal. They bring in both money and work for Nepal’s tourism which thrives even in the lean seasons of May-September, as each tourist spends anywhere between $800 to $1,200 for the week-long trip.

Every year, Nepal receives 40,000 Kailash pilgrims, out of which 30,000 are Indian pilgrims, as per tour operators.&nbsp;

About 10,000 Nepalese are directly benefitted every season from the food and support of Indian and Nepali pilgrims going on the Kailash Yatra.&nbsp;

Nepali operators, who were hoping that the reopening of the northern border would help their businesses to recover, are having to face innumerable difficulties and financial hurdles.&nbsp;

"Thousands of pilgrims used to come to Nepal from India and other countries. The permit applications for Indians have not yet begun. Only foreign passport and Nepali passport holders are allowed. We hope the process begins for Indians too. There are some issues that can only be addressed at the government level. All Indian, China, and Nepal governments will have to solve some border, visa issues. The new restrictions that ask pilgrims to be present physically for biometrics to acquire a visa are I think controlled tourism,"&nbsp;Pradip Pandit, Vice President of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal told WION.&nbsp;

"Due to many restrictions, the flow of tourists will decrease. We have taken this to the Chinese Embassy, Nepal Foreign Ministry, and Prime Minister," he added.&nbsp;

Calling the restrictions impractical, Pandit said, "A single Nepali staff will incur $420 dollars, which is more than their earnings of monthly NPR 25,000 ($190). Even we cannot bear this cost, it is very expensive. We asked our counterparts to change these regulations.&nbsp;

The Chinese government has allowed Kailash pilgrims to go only through Tibet's capital Lhasa and Nepal's Kerung Pass. The main season for Kailash is from May to September every year.&nbsp;

The annual pilgrimage season would be a boom time for the tourism industry, and the government too would see increased revenue from taxes. Religious tourists create good business for hotels and restaurants including travel agents.&nbsp;

However, this year Nepal is not even expecting one-fourth of the pilgrims of what it used to receive earlier.

Nepal tour operators request China to remove 'unpractical rules' for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

A dispute between India and Nepal has escalated into a full-blown diplomatic crisis. Kathmandu on Monday summoned the Indian ambassador who was given a 'diplomatic note'.

My second trip to Kailash, I was thrilled to be invited again! The Mountain had called me! &nbsp;

2010, I was discovering myself, 2019 I knew myself better or so I thought. &nbsp;

There were many lessons I had to learn. The main one - I was cut down to size and shown how minscule I really am!&nbsp;

Payments, travel dates, flight bookings, helicopter rides, hotels, passports, visas nothing went as per ‘plan’ and yet It all went as per plan just not my plan!

My ‘miniscule organised’ self was whacked about till I surrendered! I carried the wrong phone charger, I couldn’t find the Yuans I have kept so safely, and to top it all I left my hiking boots on the bus so no shoes to walk in on the parikrama. &nbsp;

At &nbsp;Manasarovar, had a good cry feeling sorry for myself, playing the victim! Emotionally drained I lay by the shores and went into a deep sleep. I woke up with a sense of calm and just knew all would be well.&nbsp;

My shoes ‘arrived’, my phone got charged, I was overjoyed! I was paranoid about having a pony and porter and felt relaxed and confident when I got both. Another divine whack was in store day 2 - the most arduous trek, the pony falls sick and I walk around 20 kms to our night stop. So much for my back up plan!&nbsp;

My journey within was remarkable, the lessons I learned are indelibly printed in every cell in my being. The majestic Kailash truly humbled me and has transformed me into a mellower version of myself!! &nbsp;

Modes of transport bus, propeller plane, helicopter, pony.&nbsp;

33 people. Accommodation - mud huts,&nbsp;3 to 6 in a room. Electricity none after Taklakot &nbsp;Solar generated lights limited to 3 hours &nbsp;

Temperatures night time Simikot -2C going down to -14C at Deraphuk and -16C on day 2 of parikrama.&nbsp;

Toilets basic to open spaces - pick your spot. Bathing facilities - none for 5 days. &nbsp;

Most valuable and important things - Wet wipes, Diamox, Lomotil, Water.

Our ascent was gradual and so most acclimatised, however, the descent was rapid as many needed to get down to better medical care. We descended 5,000 feet in 24 hours, 1-day rest, 13,000 feet in the next 24 hours by helicopter and plane. The result- intensified ‘sickness’ congestion, infection, high fever etc. My BP fell to 90/70 and I just slept most of the time no matter where I was. We were all on Diamox (The medication is effective in preventing acute mountain sickness, high altitude pulmonary edema and high altitude cerebral edema. I was asked to stop the medication immediately. My BP stabilised at 120/80!

Medical checkups&nbsp;

4 yatris were doctors who monitored and recorded our BP, pulse rate, oxygen levels! &nbsp;They came equipped with all kinds of medications. Some yatris developed headaches, fever, congestions and some vomited. Others BP shot up while some got diarrhoea.18 had to stay back while 15 completed the Parikrama. &nbsp;

Daily meditation hour of yoga certainly not enough

Physical fitness a must. Strength and body balance not overstaining any part. Build core strength. &nbsp;

My preparation - alternating workouts for 2 months &nbsp;

Cardio - 1-hour walking maximum incline slow speed no stopping.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Short bursts of rowing 5 -&nbsp;1 km, immediately followed by step machine, level 11, 250 steps in 5 minutes.&nbsp;

Weight training - Legs and abs. Upper body - alternating push and pull. Increased weights every week &nbsp;

Mount Kailash is a pilgrimage and not a trek, the Parikrama is meaningless if you do not connect with the energies of Kailash. This journey is for your “self”, the Atma connection happens when you go there as a pilgrim and not as a trekker.  The Kailash pilgrimage connects you with the higher spiritual energies, awakens you to a more a blissful you.

This reflection deliberation takes place in the deep of your core, your soul not your minuscule mind. The answers, the awakening come from within. Be aware, your answers will manifest in different ways, your life will be truly awesome!&nbsp;

The 18th batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which was to leave from New Delhi today was stopped and the batches which are on the move were shifted to safer places en route after the traditional Lipulekh route halted due to incessant rain here on Monday.

Every year India's Ministry of External Affairs organises the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage from June to September for Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist pilgrims.

The pilgrims take one of the two routes -- one is Lipulekh Pass that passes through important sites like Narayan Ashram, Patal Bhuvaneshwar and the other one is Nathu La Pass in Sikkim.

The route through Nathu La Pass (Sikkim) is motorable and suitable for senior citizens unable to undertake arduous trekking.

From Gangtok, the route passes through scenic places like Hangu Lake, and through the vast landscape of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/tibet-can-play-an-important-role-in-promoting-india-china-ties-242028">Tibetan </a>plateau.&nbsp;

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra halted due to heavy rains

India's external affairs minister S Jaishankar&nbsp;on a three-day visit to China held talks with foreign minister Wang Yi on Monday.

In the joint address at the foreign minister's meeting, Jaishanker announced that Prime Minister Modi and President Xi would be meeting in October.

"Some suggestions were made today by the Chinese side to expand the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, we are deeply appreciative of those initiatives," Jaishanker said. &nbsp;

The talks between Jaishanker and Wang Yi focussed&nbsp;on a second, informal, Wuhan-like summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping to be held in India this year.

"India, China should be a factor of stability," Wang Yi said. "We need to deepen our cooperation, there are certain differences between the two nations,"&nbsp;China's foreign minister said.

China on Friday denied entry to around 47 Indian pilgrims who were travelling to Kailash Mansarovar through the Nathu-la pass in Sikkim.

India has taken up the issue with Beijing, PTI reported.

&ldquo;Yes, there are some difficulties being experienced in movement of KMY (Kailash Mansarovar Yatra) Yatris via Nathu La. Matter is being discussed with Chinese side,&rdquo; External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay told PTI.

Citing sources, PTI said that the pilgrims and the liaison officer were stopped because several Chinese roads were washed away after landslides.

The Indian pilgrims were reportedly informed that they would be allowed to enter China once the road conditions improve.
