Here are the key takeaways from the debate that Democrats are decrying as an event that has slimmed Biden's chances of returning to the White House.

Donald Trump's balanced stance on abortion

In a surprising turn of events, Donald Trump did not pander to the ultra-conservative lobby and said that he respects the recent court decision that allows the use of abortion pills. Asked if he would reverse the Supreme Court's decision on allowing the use of abortion pills, he emphatically said no.

"Like Ronald Regan, I believe in exceptions," Trump said.

Biden responded that it's women's sole right what they want to do with their bodies, not anybody else's.

But Biden later went off track by saying, "I support Roe v Wade, which had three trimesters. The first time is between a woman and a doctor. The second time is between a doctor and an extreme situation. A third time is between the doctor, I mean, between the women and the state."

The US president blamed Trump for the overturning of the Roe Vs. Wade verdict due to the inclusion of perceived Conservative judges in the Supreme Court during the Trump administration.

Biden struggles to give clear responses on wars in Gaza, Ukraine

Joe Biden appeared to struggle with Trump's strongman instincts as the former president said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's terms to end the war in Ukraine — keeping territory Moscow has occupied in war, and Kyiv to end its bid to join NATO — are not acceptable to him. Trump first claimed that he would get the Ukraine conflict settled before he took office, and later on during the debate, he added that a solution to the Ukraine crisis would emerge once he took office.

Biden simply described Vladimir Putin as a "war criminal" and repeated Washington's support to Ukraine against the Russian offensive. To this, Trump described Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky as the "greatest salesman" as he gets billions in US money every time he visits the United States.

The duo sparred over the war in Gaza. Biden repeated his three-stage plan to end the war in Gaza which includes the return of hostages in Hamas captivity and an immediate ceasefire.

Biden said that Hamas wants to continue the war while Trump retorted by claiming it's Israel that's continuing the war but nonetheless Israel must be allowed "to finish the job in Gaza".

Trump described Biden as the "weak one" while Biden described his predecessor as being "foolish".

Trump's clear answer on his age

Trump, 78 and Biden, 81, answered questions related to the concerns about their age.

Trump challenged Biden to take cognitive tests like he claimed he had. Biden laughed it off and challenged Trump for a "driving test".

Trump-Biden face off on immigration

Trump and Biden responded to some of the most pressing questions on illegal immigration. Trump described "migrant crime" as "Biden migrant crime".

Biden, meanwhile, went after Trump for "snatching children from their mothers" whilst he was in power.

Trump reasoned that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have invaded Ukraine had the US not exited Afghanistan the way it did. "They (the world) don't respect our country. Biden gains immigration brownie points ahead of presidential debate with Trump

US President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he was "righting an historic wrong" by pardoning military personnel convicted under a law banning homosexuality in the armed forces for decades.

"Despite their courage and great sacrifice, thousands of LGBTQI+ service members were forced out of the military because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Some of these patriotic Americans were subject to court-martial, and have carried the burden of this great injustice for decades," Biden said in a statement.

He said that with the gesture he was "ensuring the culture of our Armed Forces reflect the values that make us an exceptional nation."

The decision specifically concerns Article 125 of the Code of Military Justice, dating from 1951 and made obsolete by Congress in 2013. It made sodomy between consenting adults a crime punishable by court-martial.

A senior US official told reporters that thousands of people could be eligible for pardons.

Along with the symbolism, anyone granted clemency will also be able to have their military documents amended -- which could in turn make them eligible for benefits they had previously been denied.

The United States barred homosexual personnel from serving in the military until 1994, when a policy known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" went into effect.

That policy prevented service members from being asked about their sexual orientation, but still required gay, lesbian and bisexual personnel to remain closeted to avoid being dismissed from the military until its repeal in 2011.

In September 2023, the Defense Department announced that it would conduct a review to identify veterans who received other than honorable discharges -- which can affect access to benefits as well as harm employment prospects -- as a result of their sexual orientation, so their records can be corrected if merited.

US: Trump advisors' plan to end Russia-Ukraine war if Trump wins US Presidential elections

President Joe Biden and Donald Trump will debate for ninety minutes using movable microphones. This sets the stage for their first face-to-face meeting before November's election. The Biden and Trump teams agreed on the parameters for the June 27 debate, which will feature two hosts and no studio audience.

US: Voters upset over Biden, Trump choices; say 'it's like choosing lesser of two evils'

Long week for Democratic President Joe Biden and his rival Republican former president Donald Trump as they head into one of the most consequential presidential debates in decades.

US Presidential Elections: Trump & Biden set for mega face-off, prep for key Presidential debate

The recent felony conviction of former President Donald Trump has dramatically increased campaign coffers, propelling him over the cash reserves painstakingly built by President Joe Biden's campaign over months. There was an instant and huge inflow of grassroots donations immediately after the jury verdict on May 30 that pronounced Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump's campaign is purported to have raked in millions of dollars within hours.

By June 1, Trump's campaign purse swelled to $116.6 million, eclipsing Biden's $91.6 million, according to new campaign finance filings released on Thursday. Quite a comeback for Trump, who was behind by more than $40 million just two months ago.

The latest financial disclosure offers but a glimpse of the cruise navigation charting altogether the breadth of campaign finance in the ensuing months. It nonetheless reflects a formidable fundraising prowess reinforced by both major contributors and small-dollar donors-to the pockets of Mr. Trump. To this, an heir to a banking fortune, Timothy Mellon, gave $50 million to a super-PAC supporting Trump just one day after his conviction. This is one of the largest single donations ever recorded in campaign finance history.

Also, in support of Trump, Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire donated immediately after the verdict. In total, Trump and the Republican National Committee raised a huge $141 million haul in May, far outpacing the $81 million Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised.

Although the election law allows individuals no more than $3,300 contribution per candidate per election, Trump's campaign currently reaps a grassroots surge to reach such figures. Moreover, his campaign smartly reaches out to billionaire donors who have been able to secure hefty sums not only in formal campaign contributions but also in Trump-affiliated groups that can receive unlimited sums. Some of these contributions will only be disclosed in future finance reports.

While President Biden's campaign raked in a lot of money, more than those in April, it was still smaller than Trump's deep pockets. Biden's campaign has been judicious about where to spend, building campaign infrastructure that has essentially reduced cash-on-hand figure.

This has reshaped the entire financial landscape of the 2024 presidential campaign, with this robust support from both grassroots donors and wealthy donors in Trump's campaign, he shall be financially positioned to quite aggressively pursue its objectives while the Biden team continues to strategise and mobilise to tackle a highly competitive race.

Republican Donald Trump, who is just three years younger than Joe Biden at 78, has been using the President's age to attack him and raise questions about his mental agility. The party has been using the octogenarian's advanced age to raise questions on Biden's mental state, fitness for another term in the White House, and his fitness to lead the Western power. Whoever wins the upcoming November 2024 elections stands to become the oldest president inaugurated — 78 years or 81 years. Biden currently holds the record as the oldest man to serve the US office.
George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Barack Obama were among those who attended a star-studded fundraiser for President Joe Biden. According to his re-election campaign, the event raised a record $30 million.

On Saturday night, several celebrities including Barbra Streisand and Julia Roberts took the stage at the 7,100-seat Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night host, interviewed Biden and former president Barack Obama who emphasised the importance of defeating former president Donald Trump in what is predicted to be an extremely tight contest.

To Kimmel's question about whether Americans were suffering from amnesia about the likely Republican candidate, Biden said, "All we gotta do is remember what it was like" while Trump was president.

A growing number of well-known figures in the entertainment industry have stepped up to support Biden's campaign. The Democratic president's decision to fly through the night from the G7 summit in southern Italy to Southern California indicates how crucial the event was to his reelection campaign.

When Kimmel asked President Biden what he was most proud of doing, he said that he believed the administration's economic strategy “is working”. “We have the strongest economy in the world today,” Biden said, stating, “We try to give ordinary people an even chance.”
