<p>The rise in death toll reported by the Ishikawa regional authorities came as thousands of rescuers deployed in the region continued to battle blocked roads, snow, and poor weather to clear the wreckage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rescue efforts have continued for eight days now, as nearly 3,500 people are still stuck in isolated communities, with heavy snow in places making matters worse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As of Monday (Jan 8), there were nearly 30,000 people living in around 400 government shelters which are struggling to provide adequate food, water and heating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There was a loud blast sound at the previous speech venue. Police are investigating details, but I'd like to apologise for worrying many people and causing them trouble," Kishida reportedly said, quoted NHK. He added, "An election that's important to our country is taking place, and we must work together and follow through on it."</p>

<p>Sharing the account&nbsp;of the incident, Kishida said he saw an object thrown near him at a campaign event and he fled moments before it exploded. He also told a top official of the Liberal Democratic Party in a telephonic conversation that the time duration between spotting the object thrown at him and the explosion was enough to allow him to flee the campaign site, reported NHK.</p>

<p>He added that he would continue his campaign events on Saturday and Sunday as per schedule.</p>

<p>The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will make his maiden visit to India from March 8 to 11 along with several other senior ministers from his administration, said the Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, on Saturday (March 4). Meanwhile, a government source told Nikkei Asia that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is also planning a three-day visit to New Delhi and hold talks with his Indian counterpart PM Narendra Modi, starting on March 19.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The MEA, in a statement, said, that the Australian PM will arrive on March 8 at the invitation of his Indian counterpart along with the Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King as well as senior officials and a high-level business delegation.​&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added that this will be Prime Minister Albanese’s first visit to India since he took office and he is scheduled to arrive in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on March 8, the day of Holi festival. The next day, he will visit the financial capital, Mumbai before arriving in Delhi on the same day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the national capital, the Australian PM will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 10, said the MEA. The leaders from the two countries will also hold an annual summit to discuss the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in line with which they will talk about areas of cooperation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During his visit, Albanese will also meet the Indian President Droupadi Murmu. “The Strategic Partnership between the two countries was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in June 2020 which has been strengthened and deepened through frequent high-level exchanges and enhanced cooperation across sectors,” said the MEA.&nbsp;</p>

A report by the Jiji news agency said as the prime minister's travel has to be approved by Parliament, officials are worried it may be difficult to keep the timing of the trip a secret. The report added that Kishida's bodyguards are limited in what weapons can they carry, and there is also no legal framework to allow the Japanese military to protect the PM abroad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In May, Japan will be hosting the G7 Summit in Hiroshima where Russia's offensive in Ukraine is going to be one of the biggest agendas. The Japanese government has worked with its allies to sanction Moscow and boost support to Kyiv, even taking the rare step of offering refuge to people fleeing the war.&nbsp;</p>

A prominent ally of President Vladimir Putin, Medvedev said the nuclear statement showed "paranoia" towards Moscow and "betrayed the memory of hundreds of thousands of Japanese who were burned in the nuclear fire of Hiroshima and Nagasaki" — in a reference to the US dropping atomic bombs on these two Japanese cities in 1945. Medvedev said that rather than demanding repentance for this, Kishida showed that he was "just a service attendant for the Americans". Kishida made no mention of these comments by the former Russian President.&nbsp;</p>
