Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey on Friday (August 18) said that he had deleted his Instagram account. This means that the handle, previously owned by none-other-than Jack Dorsey himself might be up for grabs, if someone hasn't claimed it already that is. Such handles sell for thousands of dollars in the secondary market on the internet.

Dorsey made the announcement about quitting Instagram in a post on decentralised social media Nostr. Dorsey said that he was deleting the account after years of non-use.

“Don’t know why it took me so long,” he wrote. “I think I was in the first 10 accounts on the platform, and one of the first angel investors. [Instagram co-founder] Kevin [Systrom] was our intern at Odeo,” noted Dorsey in his post. (Odeo was the organisation founded in 2005 by Noah Glass and Evan Williams, that later reformed as the Obvious Corporation which ended up becoming the birthplace of Twitter.)

He also said that he stopped using the app after it was acquired by Facebook (now Meta).

Dorsey and Systrom had been friends since they were working together at Odeo. At one point, Twitter even tried acquiring Instagram. But the attempt was rejected. Dorsey found out later that Instagram was being sold to Facebook for USD 1 billion. He then stopped using Instagram reportedly because he was hurt that Systrom didn't tell him directly.

Dorsey hasn't posted anything on Instagram since April 9, 2012. It has been reported in media that it was on that day that Dorsey found out that Instagram was acquired by Facebook.

Dorsey quitting Instagram has come at a time when the photo-sharing app is competing with Twitter through its own app Threads.

The former Twitter CEO has been backing other social media networks after and even during he was at Twitter. He incubated Bluesky while serving as Twitter's CEO. Bluesky said last year that it received USD 13 million from Twitter to kickstart its research and development (R&amp;D).

Dorsey has also put his weight behind Nostr, the decentralised network protocol. He donated about USD 245,000 in bitcoin. He regularly posts on Nostr.

Twitter is now owned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk who has chosen to rebrand it as 'X'. The huge changes, including massive job cuts, Musk made in Twitter had initially scared the markets as well as advertisers. Questions on stability and even future of the platform were raised.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, on Tuesday, reacted to former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's claim that the microblogging site was under pressure from the Indian government to block the social media accounts of people covering the farmer's protest.

Calling the claim a "blatant lie", Thakur said that "several foreign forces wake up when elections approach in India."

He further slammed the ex-Twitter chief saying that he has suddenly woken up after "years of sleep and wants to cover up his misdeeds."

"What was said, is a blatant lie. Jack Dorsey woke up after years of sleep and wants to cover up his misdeeds. When Twitter was bought by another person, it was revealed in 'Twitter Files' how was the platform being misused. Jack Dorsey has not been able to answer this to date because he was exposed," he said.

'Twitter Files' is a series of tweets that were highlighted by Elon Musk, when he took over the company, to uncover the wrongdoings carried out on the social media platform during Dorsey's leadership.

Thakur further remarked on the timing of the statement made by the founder of Twitter, as Indian PM Narendra Modi is all set to embark on his official visit to the United States.

He further backed Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar's comment, who rejected Dorsey's claim terming it as "an outright lie" and "an attempt to brush out the very dubious period" of the social media company's history.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar took to Twitter to post a rebuttal where he said Dorsey was attempting to "brush out a very dubious period of Twitter's history".&nbsp;

"Twitter under Dorsey and his team were in repeated and continuous violations of India's&nbsp;laws. As a matter of fact, they were in non-compliance with law repeatedly from 2020 to 2022 and it was only June 2022 when they finally complied," said Chandrasekhar.&nbsp;

The minister added that the government was attempting to remove misinformation traversing the social media platform.&nbsp;

"During the protests in January 2021, there was a lot of misinformation and even reports of genocide which were definitely fake. GoI was obligated to remove misinformation from the platform because it had the potential to further inflame the situation based on fake news," he added.

His net worth plunged by $526 million on Thursday, the worst single-day decline in his fortunes since May.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Jack Dorsey's net worth saw an 11 per cent drop and now stands at around $4.4 billion.&nbsp;

Hindenburg said that the California-based company knew that many of its accounts were fraudulent or belonged to the same user. However, it failed to account for this in its financial disclosure.&nbsp;

Musk and his legal team have also subpoenaed the whistleblower who is known as "Mudge", seeking information about the microblogging platform's methodology for measuring spam accounts.

Famous hacker Peiter Zatko, a.k.a Mudge, alleged in his complaint last week that Twitter falsely stated it had a strong security plan and that the company prioritised user growth over eliminating spam.

Musk says that the reason behind this is that he was misled by Twitter about the true number of bot or spam account on the platform.

After Twitter whistleblower revelations, Elon Musk launches another bid to terminate deal

In a hunt for material to help him abandon the contentious $44 billion Twitter buyout deal, Elon Musk has now knocked on the doors of co-founder and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.&nbsp;

AFP reports that as per records made public, the Tesla CEO has served Dorsey with a legal order that requires him to give Musk any communications or documents pertaining to the April takeover agreement.&nbsp;

The subpoena also asks him to provide details on fake or spam accounts or the methodology used by Twitter to determine the number of active users. It seeks everything Dorsey may have regarding the subjects going back to January 2019.

For weeks now, Musk's attorneys have been sending subpoenas to several individuals to obtain their records or take their depositions.

Dorsey said, ''I've decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders. My trust in Parag as Twitter's CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I'm deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It's his time to lead.''

The 45-year-old has recently been showing an increased interest in cryptocurrencies.&nbsp;
