<p>As ISRO gears up for the launch of India's maiden mission to study the sun, Aditya-L1, the space agency Chairman Dr S Somanath has revealed the packed schedule that lies ahead. Dr Somanath offered prayers at the Changalamman Devi temple near the Satish Dhawan Space Centre spaceport, ahead of the 24-hour countdown that commences for the Aditya-L1/PSLV-C57 mission.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Today the countdown for PSLV-C57/Aditya-L1 is starting, (Saturday) tomorrow noon we will have the launch at 11:50. It'll take almost an hour for the satellite to reach the required location (orbit) and inject. It'll take another 125 days to travel from Earth to its destination L1 point or Lagrange Point," Dr Somanath said.</p>

<p>The L1 point is 1.5 million kilometres away from Earth and is barely one per cent of the 150 million km Earth-Sun distance. Queried on the risk of high temperature at the L1 point, he said that it would be similar to that of the Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Wednesday (August 30), the Indian Space Agency completed the launch rehearsal and crucial checks ahead of Saturday's high-profile launch of the nation's maiden sun-observing mission.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During a launch rehearsal, the entire process of the countdown is carried out in a simulated manner. The vehicle health checks, fuel filling processes, and monitoring of various technical parameters associated with the rocket and satellite are simulated and run through.</p>

<p>The purpose of a countdown is not just about the clock ticking away. Instead, the primary purpose of the countdown is to ensure that the specified tasks are carried out perfectly within the stipulated period. A series of tasks and safety measures have to be undertaken in preparation for the launch and that is what happens during the countdown. The launch rehearsal is a simulation of this entire process.</p>

<p>The Aditya-L1 mission is slated for lift-off on Saturday noon, September 2 at 11:50 am Indian Standard Time (IST). The PSLV rocket in its XL configuration stands at the first launch pad of India's Satish Dhawan Space Centre Spaceport.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to ISRO, placing the spacecraft at the L1 point provides a greater advantage of observing the solar activities and their effect on space weather in real time. The spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic, particle and magnetic field detectors.</p>

<p>Using the special vantage point L1, four payloads directly view the sun and the remaining three payloads carry out in-situ studies of particles and fields at the Lagrange point L1, thus providing important scientific studies of the propagatory effect of solar dynamics in the interplanetary medium.</p>

Here's the list of ISRO's upcoming missions for 2023-24

<p>India's largest and heaviest rocket, the 642-tonne LVM3 lifted off majestically amid overcast skies at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Propelled by 410 tonnes of solid fuel (stored in twin S200 solid boosters), the vehicle took to the skies from the second launchpad and emitted its characteristic engine roar, which was heard in at least a seven-kilometre radius around the launch pad. The LVM3 rocket, which has delivered success in all its missions to date, delivered yet another success by ejecting the Lunar spacecraft into the precise orbit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rocket is carrying a 3.9 tonne Lunar spacecraft Chandrayaan-3 to an orbit around the Earth, which measures 170x36,500. This means that the spacecraft is not in an even circular orbit around the Earth. This is a highly-elliptical orbit, where the spacecraft is 170km&nbsp;above the earth at its closest approach (perigee) and 36,500km&nbsp;above the earth at its farthest approach (apogee).&nbsp;</p>

<p>From this orbit, in a series of orbit-raising manoeuvres, the craft will gradually be flung away from Earth and from the Earth's influence. In a few weeks, it would be captured by the moon's gravity and then attempt to make a lunar soft landing around August 23. The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft comprises a propulsion module (meant to take the spacecraft into lunar orbit), a Lunar lander named 'Vikram' and a Lunar rover named 'Pragyan'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The goal is to make a lunar soft landing near the moon's 80 degree latitude (roughly 600 km&nbsp;away from the Lunar south pole) on August 23, which marks the start of the Lunar Day and then conduct in-situ experiments using the lander and rover. The in-situ experiments will include the detection of moon quakes, studies of the Lunar atmosphere, and studies of the mineral composition of Lunar rocks and soil, among others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Chandrayaan-3 mission, on Friday (July 14) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2:35 pm (local time), the country’s third lunar mission and second attempt at a soft landing on the surface of the moon.</p>

<p>Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is currently in France as the Guest of Honour for this year’s Bastille Day Parade which also witnessed the participation from the Indian army, Navy and Air Force, took to Twitter and congratulated the team at ISRO for the successful launch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Chandrayaan-3 scripts a new chapter in India's space odyssey. It soars high, elevating the dreams and ambitions of every Indian. This momentous achievement is a testament to our scientists' relentless dedication. I salute their spirit and ingenuity!” said the Indian PM.&nbsp;</p>

‘Chandrayaan-3 scripts new chapter’: PM Modi about successful launch of India’s third lunar mission

<p>India successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 on Friday (July 14) from its main spaceport in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh at 2:35pm local time (0905 GMT).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thousands had gathered at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, in Sriharikota to witness this historic feat when the Launch Vehicle Mark III (LVM3-M4) rocket carrying Chandrayaan-3 lifted off successfully.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Moon mission, which has a price tag of around $74.6 million, aims to successfully land a rover to explore the lunar surface. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The Sanskrit word Chandrayaan means "moon vehicle" and the rocket includes a two-metre tall lander, named Vikram, which is designed to deploy a rover near the lunar south pole.&nbsp;It is expected to remain functional for two weeks running a series of experiments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is a follow-up mission to its failed effort nearly four years ago to land a rover softly on the lunar surface.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rover will embark on a journey lasting slightly over a month before landing on the Moon's surface later in August, around the 23rd of that month.&nbsp;A successful landing would make India the fourth country — after the United States, the Soviet Union, and China — to achieve the feat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the launch, Jitendra Singh, who is a junior minister for science and technology, told reporters: "It is indeed a moment of glory for India. Thank you team ISRO for making India proud."&nbsp;</p>
