Lebanon Pager blasts: Countries around the world react to Lebanon Pager attacks

After deadly pager explosions, now reports are emerging of a fresh wave of explosions in walkie-talkies across Lebanon’s south and the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut. At least 20 people were killed and over 450 injured in Lebanon after hand-held radios or walkie-talkies used by militant group Hezbollah exploded in multiple parts of the country.

Lebanon walkie-talkie blasts: Second wave of device explosions in Lebanon

A day after deadly pager and walkie-talkie attacks across Lebanon, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave his first speech and called&nbsp;the attacks "a terrorist act" and that it was a "declaration of war" against the people of Lebanon and the country’s sovereignty.

The two waves of attacks with pagers and walkie-talkies&nbsp;that jolted Lebanon, killed 37 people, injuring 287 others, Lebanon’s Health Minister Firass Abiad said.&nbsp;

Further calling the attack a "massacre", Nasrallah said that these two attacks in the past two days, prompted him to deliver this speech, adding that he was planning to present his analysis and report of one year of fighting on October 7, but what unfolded in the past 48 hours “demanded this message”.

<h2>Israel crossed 'all red lines'</h2>

He said that the "Israeli enemy” had “crossed over all the red lines”&nbsp;in Lebanon.

The explosions happened in hospitals because some medics were carrying them, he said, adding that the blasts also occurred in pharmacies, hospitals, markets, shops, houses, cars, and in the streets, where many civilians were present.&nbsp;

He continued that Israel 'willfully' intended to kill thousands of people.&nbsp;

Israel started its attack by targeting paging devices, knowing that there were more than 4,000 of them in use, he claimed. Nasrallah alleged that these devices were donated and Israel tried to kill 4000 people simultaneously as well as those in their vicinity.&nbsp;

The Hezbollah chief said the group has been dealt a “very hard” blow, describing the attacks as “unprecedented” in Lebanon.&nbsp;

Nasrallah also blamed the United States and said that his group knows that Israel has a technological edge as it is backed by Washington&nbsp;and other tech superpowers.&nbsp;

“We cannot be broken by this blow, no matter how big or strong it is. And I can assure you faithfully and with confidence, this hard, unprecedented blow did not bring us to our knees – and it will not,” he said.&nbsp;

He promised&nbsp;that the group would become more robust, the Hezbollah leader said, “These are lessons to learn.”

He further said that the group has formed several investigation committees examining various scenarios, adding that they will not jump to any conclusions.&nbsp;

However, even as Nasrallah was giving the speech, multiple huge sonic booms from Israeli jets were reportedly heard over Beirut.

Following the two-day attack, Lebanon authorities banned walkie-talkies and pagers from being taken on flights from Beirut airport, the National News Agency reported.&nbsp;

The Lebanese civilian aviation directorate asked airlines operating from Beirut to tell passengers that walkie-talkies and pagers are banned until further notice. Moreover, such devices are also banned from being shipped by air, the Lebanese state news agency reported.

Lebanon walkie-talkie blasts: 20 dead, 450 injured in walkie-talkie blasts

Minutes after Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah delivered his first speech in the aftermath of pager and walkie-talkie explosions, Israel launched a full-scale attack in Lebanon by targeting the militant group's targets.

Israel has proposed a framework for a new deal with the Hamas militants saying&nbsp;that it would end fighting in the Gaza Strip and&nbsp;offer&nbsp;safe passage out of the Palestinian&nbsp;enclave for the group's leader Yahya Sinwar and his associates if they release all hostages at once, according to a report by KAN, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC).&nbsp;

According to the report, Israel has proposed that it would also release all Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli jails, demilitarise the Gaza Strip, and place a new system of governance in Gaza.

The report stated that a government point man on the hostages, Gal Hirsch, told the families of hostages that the proposal was presented in a meeting with US officials from the White House and State Department last week.&nbsp;

Israel proposes new deal seeking release of all hostages, ending war in Gaza: Report

The entire world was&nbsp;left in shock on Tuesday (Sep 17), when more than 1,000 Hezbollah militants were seriously injured after their pager sets exploded, all simultaneously. The pagers&nbsp;blast was then followed by blowing off several walkie-talkies the next day on September 18.&nbsp;

In the series of mass mysterious blasts in Lebanon, at least 32 people were killed and around 3,250 suffered injuries. This is one of the biggest and probably the most shocking forms of attack using technology in the modern era of warfare.&nbsp;

There is a lot of curiosity among commoners about the incident- how it was carried out, how pagers were “hacked,” and how Israel was able to carry out such a deadly attack by sitting miles away. Although Israel has not commented on the Lebanon pager attack, the spotlight is shifted to Israel Defence Forces’ (IDF) Unit 8200, which is a secretive cyber warfare unit.

As per several reports, Unit 8200 played a crucial role in the development stage of the intelligence operation, which was, according to sources, going on for over a year. The reports suggest that the unit was responsible for testing how to insert explosive material within the manufacturing process.

The IDF has a dedicated Military Intelligence Directorate for carrying out clandestine operations using signals. This is one of the oldest directorates of IDF, established as soon as the state of Israel was founded in 1948.&nbsp;

This particular directorate is made up of its three main arms- the 8200 Unit, the 9900 Unit and the 504 Unit. The biggest of which is the 8200 Unit, which is the Military Intelligence Directorate's main information-gathering unit, as per IDF’s official website.

Some of the alleged previous operations carried out by the IDF’s Unit 8200 include the 2005-10 Stuxnet virus attack that disabled Iranian nuclear centrifuges, then a recent 2017 cyber attack on Lebanon’s state telecoms company Ogero, and the thwarting of an ISIS attack on a civilian airliner travelling from Australia to the United Arab Emirates in 2018.

Last year, its commanding officer told a conference in Tel Aviv that the unit had used artificial intelligence technology to help select Hamas targets.

Company’s founder Hsu Ching-Kuang told reporters that the pagers used in detonations were made by a company in Europe that has the right to use the Taiwanese firm’s brand.
