Netanyahu accused Gallant of adopting "an anti-Israel narrative" that was hurting the momentum of the forces and the ongoing talks.&nbsp;

“When Gallant adopts the anti-Israel narrative, he harms the chances of reaching a hostage-release deal,” the Israeli PMO was quoted as saying by the New York Times.&nbsp;

Notably, Gallant made the rather rebellious remark in front of lawmakers during a private security briefing on Monday (Aug 12).&nbsp;

“I hear all the heroes with the war drums, ‘absolute victory,’ and all that gibberish. I saw that courage when it came down to the discussion,” said Gallant, according to reports.&nbsp;

“I am not prepared for you to call the prime minister’s words ‘gibberish’,” Likud MK Tally Gotliv, a firebrand populist, reportedly said in response.

“I am prepared to debate with facts and action. I might be weak with media and politics, but on security, I know what I am talking about,” Gallant responded.&nbsp;

After the meeting, Gotliv urged Netanyahu to sack Gallant. She was also stopped by the chair of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Yuli Edelstein to ask questions to Gallant.&nbsp;

The miracle took place at the&nbsp;Al-Awda Hospital where&nbsp;Ola Adnan Harb al-Kurd -- the mother, arrived 'barely alive' after surviving a night of missile strikes that killed more than 24 people, including six members of the same family at the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Surgeon Akram Hussein and his team started operating on Kurd instantly but despite their best efforts, could not save her, according to news agency AFP.

However, after an ultrasound detected the baby's heartbeat, the doctors got back to work and performed an emergency C-section&nbsp;to bring the baby into the world.&nbsp;

The infant was in critical condition but stabilised after receiving oxygen and medical attention, according to&nbsp;Raed al-Saudi, head of the hospital's obstetrics and gynaecology department.

The baby was placed in an incubator and later transferred to the&nbsp;Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah. Notably, the baby's mother was among three women and a child killed in the Israeli strike. Kurd's husband was also seriously wounded in the strike.&nbsp;

Israel estimates that over 130 hostages remain in Gaza, with recent cease-fire negotiations centring on their release as part of the agreement. Earlier this month, Lebanon-based Hamas official Osama Hamdan told CNN that "no one has any idea" how many hostages are still alive.

According to Israeli media, Alexander Lobanov and Alexander Trufanov are the two Russian-Israeli hostages that are still in Gaza. Trufanov is being held by Islamic Jihad, another armed group in Gaza and an ally of Hamas.

In November as part of an agreement with the Kremlin, Hamas released three Russian citizen hostages from Gaza.

CENTCOM delivered around 1.1 million pounds of aid through the pier on Saturday. This brings the total amount of aid delivered since the pier's reopening in mid-May to 3.5 million pounds.

The delivery arrived on the same day that Israel launched an air and ground assault on the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, rescuing four hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack that initiated the war in Gaza.

The Hamas-run government media office in Gaza said at least 210 Palestinians were killed during the raid, and more than 400 injured.

There was some speculation whether the pier was used in the hostage rescue operation. A video circulating online on Saturday showed an Israel Defense Forces helicopter taking off from the beach with the US pier in the backdrop.

However, the CBS News quoted US officials as saying that the US pier was not used in the IDF operation. A US official explained that the helicopter landed south of the facility on a beach but not within the cordoned area of the pier.

"The pier facility was not utilised in today's operation to rescue hostages in Gaza. Instead, an area south of the facility was used to safely return the hostages to Israel," a US official stated.

The repair brings back on line one way to get desperately needed food and other emergency supplies to Palestinians trapped in Gaza. Israeli restrictions on land crossings amid ongoing war have greatly limited the flow of food and other essential supplies into the territory.

Vice Adm Brad Cooper, deputy commander of US Central Command, informed reporters on Friday that the lessons learned from the first week of operations have made him confident that greater amounts of aid can now be delivered.

Cooper said the goal was to get to 1 million pounds of food and other supplies through the pier into Gaza every two days.&nbsp;

Before the pier broke apart in the storm, more than 2.4 million pounds of aid were delivered.

US resumes humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza via repaired pier

About 30 militants from Islamic Jihad and Hamas were hiding there, he said.

The UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said the strike had been carried out "without prior warning".

“UNRWA shares the coordinates of all its facilities (including this school) with the Israeli army and other parties in the conflict,” he said.

" Attacking, targeting, or using UN buildings for military purposes is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law," Lazzarini said.

The attack came at a moment while talks are on for a ceasefire that would involve releasing hostages held by Hamas and some of the Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

The US issued a joint statement with other countries calling on Israel and Hamas to compromise to finalise a deal after eight months of war in the Gaza Strip.

Qatar's foreign ministry spokesperson, Majed Al-Ansari, stated that Hamas had not yet responded to the latest ceasefire proposal and was still reviewing it. He added that mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the US are ongoing.

In 2023, military spending lodged its steepest increase in over a decade, rising to an "all-time" high of $2.4 trillion. As per the report, the military-related expenditure rose by 6.8 per cent in 2023, which it says is the "steepest year-on-year increase since 2009."

In conversation with news agency AFP, Nan Tian, a senior researcher at SIPRI, disclosed that "total military spending is at an all-time high … and for the first time since 2009, we saw spending increase across all five geographical regions."

This, Tian said, was "a reflection of the deterioration of peace and security around the world. There's really not a region in the world where things have gotten better."

Globally, the five biggest spenders were the United States, China, Russia, India, and Saudi Arabia.

However, due to the continuation of the war, Europe also recorded particularly large increases, especially in Ukraine, Russia and "a whole host" of European countries, said Tian.

<h2>Europe's military spending</h2>

Overall, in Europe, Poland increased its military spending by the largest margin — 75 per cent to $31.6 billion.

In 2023, Russia also boosted its spending by 24 per cent, reaching $109 billion. On the other hand, Ukraine's military spending rose by 51 per cent, reaching $64.8 billion.&nbsp;

Additionally, war-torn Kyiv also received $35 billion in military aid, of which the majority came from the US. However, despite that, the combined aid and spending only equalled just over nine-tenths of Russia's spending.

Tian noted that the two nations' overall budget was relatively close in 2023. Nevertheless, for Ukraine, it was 37 per cent of its gross domestic product (GDP) and 58 per cent of all government spending, while for Russia it amounted to just 5.9 per cent of its GDP.

"So the room for Ukraine to increase its spending is now very limited," noted Tian.

<h2>Middle East</h2>

Driven by the Israel-Hamas war, spending also rose in the Middle East, where Israel saw a 24-per cent increase, to $27.5 billion in 2023.

Saudi Arabia, the region's biggest spender, increased its military expenditure by 4.3 per cent to an estimated $75.8 billion.

<h2>Asia and the world&nbsp;</h2>

China, as per the report, boosted its spending for the 29th straight year, raising it by six per cent to an estimated $296 billion.

Japan and Taiwan, meanwhile, spent $50.2 billion and $16.6 billion respectively, an increase of 11 per cent for both countries.&nbsp;

India, the world's fourth-largest spender, hiked spending by 4.3 per cent, to $83.6 billion. The US, which is the world's biggest spender, increased its military spending by 2.3 per cent to $916 billion.

Because of the situation in Ukraine&nbsp;and the Middle East, and heightened tensions in Asia, countries, as per Tian, would continue boosting their militaries. "The expectation is that this increasing trend will continue for at least a few years to come," he said.

Israeli military on Saturday (April 13) said the body of an&nbsp;Israeli teenager was found, who went missing in the West Bank.

The 14-year-old Jerusalem resident Benjamin Achimeir was likely killed in a Palestinian attack in the occupied West Bank.

It is worth mentioning here, the teenager went missing on Friday (April 12), when he went out on Friday morning from a farm near the outpost of Malachei Shalom to go shepherding. Few hours later, the sheep returned to the farm without him.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the assailants would be found and punished and he called on Israelis not to get in the way of security forces.

He further said, “the heinous murder” of Achimeir was a “serious crime. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family,” Netanyahu also said in a statement published by his office.”

“We will get the murderers and those who helped them, as we do to anyone who harms the citizens of the State of Israel,” the statement continued.

Earlier on Friday, as Israeli forces searched for the teen overnight, Jewish settlers in the area entered a nearby Palestinian village and set houses and cars ablaze.&nbsp;

One person was killed in that rampage, Palestinian medics said, though it was unclear whether he was shot by Israeli forces or settlers.

Israeli teen found dead in West Bank; IDF claims he was murdered in terror attack

The Israeli military on Saturday (Apr 6) said that its army personnel recovered the body of a hostage who was held captive by Hamas when it launched an unprecedented assault against Israel on October 7 last year.

The troops said that the hostage was killed in captivity in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

Identified as Elad Katzir, the victim was a 47-year-old farmer from Kibbutz Nir Oz who was dragged into the besieged Palestinian enclave along with 253 others during the October 7 cross-border firing by the Hamas militant group after which Israel launched its ongoing counter-offensive in Gaza.

The recovery of Katzir's body brings the number of killed hostages to 12 which the military says it has brought home from Gaza during the war.

The Israeli army released a statement saying that "the body of the abductee Elad Katzir, who according to intelligence was murdered in captivity by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organisation, was rescued overnight from Khan Yunis and returned to Israeli territory".

Katzir was abducted along with his mother Hanna at the time of the attack.

Hanna was released on Nov 24 during a one-week truce during the war in Gaza.&nbsp;

Katzir's father was killed during the attack at the kibbutz, said the army.

The military said that as per its intelligence, Katzir was murdered in mid-January after the Islamic Jihad released a video of him in captivity.

"He was buried in the ground," a military official told journalists at a briefing, as per news agency AFP reports.

The officials said that following the suggestions shared by the Israeli intelligence, the troops reached the site and "began excavation" work to recover Katzir's body.

"Their efforts resulted in the discovery of the body, which was then transported to Israel for further examination," he said.&nbsp;

Katzir's sister denounced the authorities calling them "cowardly and driven by political consideration" and blamed them for his brother's death.

Palestinian militant group Hamas on Monday (Mar 25) said to the mediators that it will follow the original proposal on finalising a comprehensive ceasefire, which includes the Israeli troops' withdrawal from Gaza and the displaced Palestinians' return to the war-ravaged enclave.&nbsp;

The militant group also called for "a real exchange of prisoners" as it appealed for the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons in exchange for the Israeli hostages&nbsp;who have been kept in Gaza.&nbsp;

Israel has time and again rejected Hamas' appeal for a permanent ceasefire and full military withdrawal as the terror group has claimed that any more hostages will be released after Israel commits to end the war.

In a statement on Monday (Mar 25), Hamas claimed that Israel “did not respond to any of the basic demands of our people and our resistance (Hamas): a comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the return of the displaced, and a real exchange of prisoners."&nbsp;

With the statement, it appeared that Hamas rejected the proposal offered in Doha where both sides had indirect talks via Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

The militant group claimed, “(Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and his extremist government bear full responsibility for thwarting all negotiation efforts and obstructing reaching an agreement so far.”

Hamas says will stick to original position on ceasefire hours after UNSC passes resolution

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday (March 21) that only the expansion of land crossings into Gaza could help prevent famine in the densely populated Palestinian enclave.

"Recent efforts to deliver food by air and sea are welcome, but only the expansion of land crossings will enable large scale deliveries to prevent famine," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

All planned aid convoys into the north have been denied by Israeli authorities in recent weeks. The last convoy allowed in was on January 23, according to the World Health Organization.

Even convoys cleared in advance with Israeli authorities have been blocked or come under fire.

Laerke cited an event that occurred on Sunday (Feb 25) in which a convoy led by the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRCS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to evacuate 24 patients from the besieged Al Amal hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis was delayed for seven hours, resulting in the arrest of paramedics.

"The WHO-led convoy was delayed by Israeli authorities for several hours as soon as it left the hospital, even though all staff personnel and vehicles had previously coordinated with the Israeli side," Laerke said to reporters in Geneva.

He claimed that "the Israeli military stripped all paramedics of their uniforms and ordered patients and personnel out of ambulances."

The convoy was forced to abandon another 31 patients at Amal hospital, which is no longer operational following 40 attacks in the past month alone that have killed at least 25 people.

According to Laerke, "Three PRCS paramedics were subsequently held, despite having previously given their personal information to the Israeli soldiers." There is just one that has been made available. 
 
"This is not an isolated incident," he stressed.

Humanitarian workers face unacceptable and avoidable risks as aid convoys are consistently blocked and even targeted. 
 
In response to Israel's failure to guarantee the safety of its emergency medical teams, the PRCS announced a 48-hour suspension of operations in Gaza.

Jens Laerke emphasised that the organisation would persist in reminding Israeli forces of their minimum obligation to facilitate safe, smooth, and rapid passage during alerted aid missions.

UN body accuses Israel of systematically blocking access to aid in Gaza Strip

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the cabinet will convene next week to discuss and approve&nbsp;Israeli Defense Forces' (IDF) plans to launch a ground offensive in Rafah - the southernmost city in the Gaza Strip.&nbsp;Netanyahu added that the meeting will also include plans for the evacuation of civilians from the area.&nbsp;

The move comes amid the ongoing negotiations with Hamas to secure a third truce deal and another round of hostage release.&nbsp;
