<p>Amini, an Iranian of Kurdish origin, died on September 16, three days after she was arrested, igniting nationwide protests. The Iranian authorities refer to them as riots and have tried multiple methods to quell the uprising. They have taken direct shots at the protesters using live ammunition, bird shot, tear gas and even paintballs.</p>

<p>Internet restrictions have been in place to stop people from gathering, with mass arrests also becoming a common thing. Norway-based group Iran Human Rights says the security forces have killed at least 186 people in the crackdown.</p>

<p>The mother of an Iranian teenager has accused the authorities of murdering her daughter during the protests taking place in the country. Nasrin Shahkarami, mother of the 16-year-old Nika, told Radio Farda that her daughter died after joining the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini and later, she was forced by the police to say that it was a suicide and Nika jumped from the roof of a building.</p>

<p>Iran is currently experiencing massive protests over the death of Amini – a 22-year-old who was found dead after being detained by the morality police for breaking the hijab laws. The death of Nika has also become symbolic of the protests as the authorities continue to crack down on dissent.</p>

<p>According to official data, around 1200 people have been arrested in the protests till now and more than 100 people have lost their lives including Nika who was found dead on September 20.</p>

<p>Iran police faced backlash after it arrested two parkour athletes -- Alireza Japalaghy and a woman whose name -- after their romantic photos of a rooftop kiss and hugs went viral on social media last week.</p>

<p>The parkour athlete has been arrested for committing "vulgar" acts, police said, after he posted photos online of himself kissing a woman on Tehran's rooftops.</p>

<p>"This individual has been arrested by Tehran's cyber police," the capital's police chief Hossein Rahimi was quoted as saying by semi-official news agency ISNA.</p>

<p>"We are against this individual and his companion's norm-breaking and vulgar behaviour and the police and the judiciary will certainly deal with them," he added, without naming the person who was arrested.</p>

<p>Japalaghy, a Tehran-based parkour athlete with more than 133,000 followers on Instagram.</p>
