<p>India celebrates its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, and everyone, from cricketers to footballers to former and current stars across all sports, extended their heartfelt greetings on social media. Be it Indian cricket all-rounder Hardik Pandya or two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra - the sporting heroes celebrated the country’s Independence Day with their fans.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Indian contingent at the recently concluded Paris Olympic Games 2024 had a mixed outing. While some came agonisingly close to winning an Olympic medal but finished fourth in their respective disciplines, others, like ace Shooter Manu Bhaker, created history, becoming the first Indian athlete – male or female, to win two medals in a single edition.</p>

<p>Besides her, Neeraj also won the silver medal in javelin throw while the Indian men’s hockey won their second successive bronze at the Summer Games, beating Spain in the medal match. There were three medal debutants: Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale in Shooting and Aman Sehrawat in Freestyle Wrestling.</p>

<p>However, what made headlines at the sporting spectacle was grappler Vinesh Phogat, who got disqualified from the gold medal match for being overweight by 100gms. Although she appealed against the decision at the Court of Arbitration (CAS), the verdict came against her.&nbsp;</p>

Cricketers, Olympic athletes celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day

<p>As India celebrates its 76th Independence Day on August 15, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign has generated an ''unprecedented'' demand for the tricolour.</p>

<p>Indians are proudly displaying the national flag on their windowsills and terrace to mark 75 years of independence from British rule.</p>

<p>Claiming it has "received a very good response", the Indian postal department is also selling the national flag online for easy procurement.</p>

<p>Celebrating the campaign, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited said it encourages employees, associates and people living in the vicinity to bring the Tiranga home and hoist it.</p>

<p>The campaign, which comes under the aegis of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of India's people, and culture and achievements.</p>

<p>Invoking the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of Indian citizens, the campaign makes them remember the contribution made by the country's freedom fighters for India's Independence and promotes awareness about the Indian National Flag.</p>

<p>As part of the celebrations of India's 75th year of Independence or 'Ázaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the Indian Army unfurled a 75-feet-long national flag at an iconic location in southern India, on Thursday.</p>

<p>The tricolour was unfurled by amphibious warriors of the Pangode military station, Thiruvananthapuram. The Vivekananda rock is a monument off the Kanyakumari coast, at the southernmost tip of India and this area marks the confluence of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The event also witnessed a military band performing the patriotic song 'Saare Jahaan Se Achchha' and the 'Kalaripayattu' martial art form. In addition to this, the Station Commander of Pangode Military station flagged off a 'Tiranga Yatra' at Kanyakumari.</p>

<p>As a part of the yatra, 75 army personnel holding national flags will be walking from Kanyakumari&nbsp;in Tamil Nadu to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, thereby covering a distance of 75 kilometres.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Vivekananda Rock memorial is built in honour of world-renowned Indian monk, philosopher and author Swami Vivekananda (born Narendranath Dutt), at the place where he attained enlightenment.<br />

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of India's 75th <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/india-independence-why-was-august-15-chosen-as-independence-day-404571">Independence Day</a> on Sunday (August 15). From agriculture to infrastructure, from health to sports, PM Modi touched upon a range of topics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the highlights of his address was a poem, he&nbsp;recited enthusiastically before ending his speech. With the help of the poem, which was in Hindi, PM Modi&nbsp;encouraged the countrymen to take charge by saying, "this is the moment, the right moment, the priceless moment of India".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Laying a roadmap for 25 years, when India will celebrate 100 years of freedom, PM Modi mentioned that "there's nothing people can't do" and there's nothing that can't be achieved. He motivated the countrymen by saying that just get up and recognise abilities and understand responsibilities.&nbsp;</p>
