At least 10 people were killed, including patients, in a major fire that broke out at a private hospital in India on Monday (August 1). The officials have confirmed the death toll after the tragic accident that happened at the New Life Multispeciality Hospital, in Jabalpur in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.&nbsp;

When the fire broke out, many people including patients and hospital staff were inside the building. Several fire tenders were deployed and eventually, the blaze was brought under control.&nbsp;

Vishwas Sarang, who is the Medical Education Minister of Madhya Pradesh, said that the authorities are trying to figure out the exact cause of the fire. Although, he hinted that a short-circuit could have been the reason. There's no confirmation yet.&nbsp;

Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Bahuguna told India-based news agency PTI that the fire erupted at the private hospital near Damoh Naka under the Gohalpur police station area around 2.30 pm (local time).&nbsp;

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences as he tweeted: "Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to the bereaved families."&nbsp;

"I hope the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all assistance to those affected," PM Modi added.&nbsp;

India's workhorse PSLV rocket had its maiden flight in 1993, GSLV rocket in 2001 and GSLV Mk3 rocket in 2017. However, during these launches the public did not have any means to witness the launch from the spaceport. In recent years, ISRO has inaugurated a Launch Viewers Gallery at Sriharikota and the public will have the opportunity to witness it from there, based on <a href="https://lvg.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/index.jsp">prior registration</a> with ISRO.

SSLV&nbsp;is a rocket that is designed to orbit satellites weighing less than 500kg in Low Earth Orbit. Dr. Somanath had earlier told WION that&nbsp;SSLV&nbsp;was being conceptualized as a rocket that can be handed over to Indian industry for the entire manufacturing process and it can be put together for launch in a week's time. He had added that&nbsp;SSLV&nbsp;uses less-exotic materials in its manufacturing process to ensure that it is kept simple and easy to adopt by industry.&nbsp;

On its maiden launch, the SSLV's primary payload is said to be the&nbsp;142kg 'Miscrosat 2A' or 'EOS-2', which is meant to meet the increasing demand for cadastral mapping(demarcation of land parcel boundaries), urban and rural management, coastal land use etc. The satellite carries two payloads MWIR and LWIR, with the resolution of 6meters.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Confident of undergoing a hand transplant, the youngster had registered with the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) and had been waiting for three years. It took a 14-hour-long procedure involving eight plastic surgeons, four orthopedician, a vascular surgeon, four anaesthetists, a nephrologist and 30 paramedical staff. The team was led by Dr. S Selva Seetharaman, HOD & Senior Consultant - Plastic, Aesthetic & reconstructive Surgery, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai. "Handling a case of hand transplants requires the highest levels of precision and medical expertise. With this case, we are happy to have recorded this rare feat of bilateral below elbow hand transplant in the state of Tamil Nadu," Dr. Selva said. Speaking at the felicitation, Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu said that this case is a great example to motivate people to step forward and donate organs, especially hands of brain-dead patients and provide a good quality of life to the differently abled. The transplant procedure was successfully carried out on 28th May 2022 and the patient is on the road to recovery, with intensive physiotherapy.

For the first time in the history of Amarnath Yatra, Jammu and Kashmir government has ensured that the Yatra will be a zero-waste pilgrimage. The Jammu and Kashmir government is making sure that the pilgrimage does not impact or affect the environment. More than 300 volunteers have been stationed to collect and process the waste produced around the various routes.&nbsp;

Around 10 tonnes of waste is produced every day along the Amarnath Yatra route from both the base camps. And this time, the government has made sure that the waste is processed on the spot. The Directorate of sanitation, the rural development department along with IIT Indore's 'SWAHA' start-up have started this initiative which could lead as an example for the rest of the country.&nbsp;

''It is a very unique kind of programme, the first time in India that a particular religious event that too of a massive scale is being organised in such a way that it becomes a zero-landfill event and a sustainable one. So, because of the help and steps taken by the rural development department of Kashmir, we have been given the responsibility as a start-up, we are from Indore, and it's called SWAHA that we make this yatra zero landfill and a sustainable one,'' said Sameer Sharma, Director SWAHA.&nbsp;

More than 12 processing units have been placed along the route. The organic waste is converted into compost and inorganic waste is further segregated and sent across to the recycling units.&nbsp;"Whatever waste is being generated in this yatra has to be taken care of very scientifically, we have been collecting the waste, we have to process it and dispose of it off. It will be a great benchmark for all such events across the nation," said Sameer.&nbsp;

The government of Jammu and Kashmir had said that around 5-6 lakh pilgrims will take the 'Yatra' this year. Experts say that a person normally generates 500gms of waste a day and at Amarnath 10 tonnes of waste is produced per day.&nbsp;

The government is also working on a plan to make the Yatra smoke-free as well. They have introduced huge solar pressure cookers around the Amarnath route to get rid of the LPG and woodfire usage in the community kitchens.

The IndiGo's Sharjah-Hyderbad flight 6E-1406 was forced to land in Karachi. Later, another plane was dispatched from India to ferry the passengers back to their destination. The first plane to land in Karachi was a Dubai-bound Delhi Spicejet flight that landed in Karachi on July 6. Reportedly, the plane had developed a fuel issue. However, it was only after the emergency landing that it was revealed that the issue was caused due to a malfunctioning fuel indicator light in the cockpit. Similarly, on the night of July 16, an Air India Express flight bound for Dubai was diverted to Muscat after a burning smell was observed in the cabin mid-air. However, the scariest incident of the lot was when Spicejet's Kandla-Mumbai flight made an emergency landing in Mumbai after the outer pane of the windshield cracked at the height of 23,000 feet. India has three research centers in the Antarctic namely, Dakshin Gangotri, Maitri, and Bharati. Maitri and Bharati centres are assisting India to enrich its knowledge on Antarctica. In this backdrop, India which is gradually become leader in the geopolitics has the responsibility to introduce Indian Antarctic Bill. The step is taken in line with Madrid Protocol to the Antarctic Treaty and the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources.

Recently, the Antarctic bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. The bill outlines, India’s initiative and ideas to curb the effects of climate change. The most important step by the government is to de- militarise the area including mining and other illegal activities in the region. This also includes making the region free from nuclear activities. Any such illegal activity will be punishable with imprisonment of Rs.20 lakh or a fine of Rs.50 crore.

Any dispute, crime or illegal activities will be solved under this bill. The judiciary will enforce the laws. The central government can also notify on session courts for this purpose under the bill. Such session court will have a specified territory.

Infact, under Ministry of Earth Sciences, a special body Indian Antarctica Authority will be formed. This body is the apex decision making body for Antarctica. It will even monitor, regulate and facilitate any program in the sensitive environment of the region. The bill prohibits any private tour of the region. In case a permit or written authorisation will be needed. A permit can only be granted after a proper waste management plan and an environment impact assessment.

&nbsp;The Indian Antarctica Bill ensures stable, transparent and an accountable process for the expeditions and research work. The body will be chaired by the secretary of Ministry of Earth Sciences. Talking about the members of the committee, 10 members will be selected from the concerned ministries, two experts on the subject matter and a chairman.

An Antarctic Fund will also be created for welfare, research and protection of Antarctica environment.

According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, India registered 19,673 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 4,40,19811. In this instance, there are 1,43,676 active cases, accounting for 0.33 per cent of all the cases.

Earlier, the police said, “An encounter has started at Wanigam Bala area of Baramulla district. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”

Reportedly, a cordon and search operation was started after security forces received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area. The Jammu and Kashmir Police stated that once the team approached the spot where the terrorist was hiding, he started shooting at them leading to an encounter.

In 2022, Kashmir has witnessed 75 encounters in which 126 terrorists have been killed. Out of these 126 terrorists, 33 were foreigners, mostly from Pakistan. However, 19 civilians have also died in various terror attacks in the valley, while 16 security personnel have also lost their lives. More than 50 terrorists have been arrested by the security forces this year while over 190 over-the-ground workers (OGW)'s have been captured as well.&nbsp;

Further details shall follow.” Reportedly, a cordon and search operation was started after security forces received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area. The Jammu and Kashmir Police stated that once the team approached the spot where the terrorist was hiding, he started shooting at them leading to an encounter.
