Indian Ministry of Education’s Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) is working to develop underrepresented technical and scientific terminology in 10 Indian regional languages.

Sanskrit, Bodo, Santhali, Dogri, Kashmiri, Konkani, Nepali, Manipuri, Sindhi, Maithili, and Konkani are among the 22 languages included in India’s Eighth Schedule as official languages. However, there is little study material produced in them, mostly because of a lack of vocabulary to explain technical concepts and scientific terms.

In three to four months, the CSTT will release what it refers to as basic dictionaries, with 5,000 terms in each language. These will be accessible digitally, without charge, and in a searchable format. There will be 1,000–2,000 copies printed in each language.

The first priority is to cover 15 fields, including civil and electrical engineering, journalism, public administration, chemistry, botany, zoology, psychology, physics, economics, Ayurveda, and mathematics. These will make it possible to create textbooks for both university and middle and senior schools.

To assist in the preparation of content for entrance exams like the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, and University Grants Commission (UGC)-National Eligibility Test (NET), the dictionaries will be distributed to State education boards, universities, engineering schools, and the National Testing Agency.

In 1950, 14 languages were included in the national language list. Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali were introduced in 2004, Konkani, Manipuri, and Sindhi in 1992, and Sindhi in 1967.

“There is a lack of content and linguistic resources in these 10 languages, leading to a lack of availability of learning material in these languages,” Prof. Girish Nath Jha, chairperson of the CSTT, Ministry of Education, said, reported The Hindu.&nbsp;

The decision is significant since the National Education Policy 2020 supports teaching in regional languages in both schools and colleges.

In response, the government launched a number of efforts, including the introduction of engineering and medical programmes in local languages in several states. The UGC has further said that it would soon publish a roadmap for the introduction of undergraduate and graduate programmes in regional languages across all academic fields, including business, humanities, and science.

A panel was also established in June by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to make suggestions about the implementation of regional language courses in law institutes.

An Amphibious Assault ship of the Indian Navy, INS Magar's primary role has been that of an expeditionary warfare unit, which can carry eleven battle tanks, thirteen BMP infantry fighting vehicles, ten trucks, eight heavy motor vehicles, and more than 200 troops in various configurations.

The ship also carries an integral Seaking Helicopter for airborne operations and four Landing Craft Assault(LCA) for launching amphibious assaults.

Built by GRSE Kolkata, INS Magar was commissioned on 18th July 1987 in the eastern Indian city. The vessel was a major milestone for the Indian shipbuilding industry as it was the first indigenously built ship with more than 5000 gross register tonnage(referring to the ship's internal volume) and the first of the Landing Ship Tank (Large) class.

<h2>'Magar - A cross between a crocodile and fish'</h2>

The Ships crest depicts the Hindu mythological character Makara, riding the waves. The Makara is generally depicted as a half crocodile in the fore part with a tail of a fish. Makara is considered as the ‘Vahana’ (Vehicle) of Goddess Ganga and the sea god Varuna.

Operation Pawan was undertaken in 1987 by Indian Peacekeeping Force (IPKF) to take control of the Jaffna Peninsula (Sri Lanka) from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE). The ship played a key role in the transfer of army troops and tanks to the Sri Lankan peninsula to provide assistance to the fighting effort of the troops on the ground.

Dr Pramod Kumar Mishra, a cabinet rank official in India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, met with Sri Lankan High Commissioner Milinda Moragoda in New Delhi on Friday to continue the bilateral dialogue between two South Asian neighbours on a number of issues, including on debt restructuring matters crucial for Colombo's economic recovery.&nbsp;

"The High Commissioner stressed the vital role that economic integration between the two countries could play in Sri Lanka's economic recovery," an official readout stated.&nbsp;

"High Commissioner Moragoda also followed up [Pramod Kumar Mishra] on a range of issues pertaining to the bilateral relationship that had been discussed during their last meeting in February," the readout added, while referring to a previous round of bilateral talks between New Delhi and Colombo that addressed former's support for latter's economic recovery alongside aforementioned matters of bilateral cooperation.

"The matters discussed included further economic integration between Sri Lanka and India, enhancing Indian investments and tourism in Sri Lanka, ways and means to further promote bilateral trade, cooperation in power and energy sector as well as aspects relating to Rupee trade," the official readout stated further.

Several banks in Sri Lanka have opened special rupee trading accounts, called Vostro accounts. This means that Sri Lankan citizens can now hold $10,000 (₹8,26,823) in physical form and for transactions with their Indian counterparts, they can use Indian rupees instead of US dollars.&nbsp;

India steps up rupee's internationalisation for Sri Lanka's economic recovery

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad after his return from Goa where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting, Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan was clear that India should create a conducive environment for talks by restoring the pre-August 5, 2019 status of Kashmir.

The Pakistani minister said revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir still remains an unresolved issue&nbsp;between the two nations.

On the other hand, India told the international community that the decision to repeal Article 370 is an internal matter of the country.&nbsp;

It also urged Pakistan to cease spreading false information against India and to accept the truth. India has expressed its wish for&nbsp;neighbourly ties with Islamabad but only in an atmosphere that is devoid of terrorism.

India held a foreign ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on 5 May in Goa which saw the participation of the Pakistani minister as well.

The meeting laid out the groundwork for the upcoming SCO Summit in July in New Delhi. During a press briefing after the SCO summit, India's External Affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar made comments over Bhutto Zardari's mention of India's constitutional changes to reverse the semi-autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir with abrogation of Article 370.

Jaishankar, during the meeting, called out Pakistan's state-sponsored terrorism, "The victims of terrorism do not sit down with perpetrators of terrorism to talk about terrorism."

"On terrorism, Pakistan's credibility is depleting faster than their forex reserves," Jaishankar said. "There is only one issue to discuss on Kashmir which is when will Pakistan give back Pakistan Occupied Kashmir," he added. 
 
Bilawal Zardari returned from India on a special Pakistan Air Force plane and landed in Karachi where he was received by Sindh chief minister, Murad Ali Shah, and other cabinet members.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 12 flagged off Rajasthan's first Vande Bharat Express. Ever since its launch in 2019, the train has become a popular mode of transport within the country. It's much faster, and lighter, with more prominent features than any other train in the country. It also cuts travel costs. The train was initially launched for travel from the national capital Delhi to Varanasi but will operate on several different routes across the whole country. Here's the list of a complete route, stops, prices and schedule of Vande Bharat. Take a look:

New&nbsp;Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express:

Route and Schedule: The train will begin its journey from the national capital Delhi at 6 am, with stops at Allahabad and Kanpur, reaching its final destination by 2 pm. It will then leave from Varanasi at 3 pm and will reach Delhi by 11 pm.&nbsp;

The train cuts travel from 13 long hours to 8 hours only.

It will operate on all days except MONDAY and THURSDAY.

New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (J &amp; K) Vande Bharat Express:

Route and Schedule: The train leaves New&nbsp;Delhi at 6 am and reaches Katra making travel for Vaishno Devi easier and reaching the destination by 2 pm. It shortens the travel time by 1.5 hrs. The train stops at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi.&nbsp;

It's India's FIRST VEGAN TRAIN, as there's no meat or egg on the menu.

It operates on all weekdays except TUESDAYS.

It operates on all weekdays except FRIDAYS.&nbsp;

The violence broke out on Wednesday (May 3) during the ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ by the Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for non-tribal Meities.&nbsp;

As per a senior police official, thousands took to the streets and participated in the rally after which clashes turned violent between tribal and non-tribal residents.

<h2>Internet services suspended in Manipur</h2>

As the violence grew to more regions in the state, internet services were suspended to curb the spread of hate speech and video messages by the anti-social elements.

The Manipur government issued a statement saying that the internet services in the Indian state have been suspended for five days "amid the incidents of fighting among youths, and volunteers of different communities as a rally was organised by All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) Manipur in protest against the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST category." 
&nbsp; 
"Some anti-social elements are using social media extensively for the transmission of images, hate speech and hate video messages inciting the passions of the public. Social media has also become a handy tool for rumour mongers and is being used to incite the general public which might have serious repercussions for the law and order situation in the State of Manipur," the statement read.

<h2>Administration imposes curfew</h2>

In view of the situation, a curfew has been imposed in non-tribal-dominated Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, and Bishnupur districts, and tribal-dominated Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Tengnoupal districts.

"A report has been received from the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur that there is a breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquility and grave danger to human lives and properties within the revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district. It is desirable that any breach of peace and disturbance to public tranquillity and danger to human lives and properties should be immediately prevented," read the statement by the district administration of Churachandpur.

"It is considered that movement of any person outside their residence is considered likely to cause a breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquillity and grave danger to human lives and properties," the statement further added.

<h2>Govt issues shoot-at-sight order</h2>

On the evening of April 4, the government of Manipur issued shoot-at-sight orders to "maintain public order and tranquillity."

The order, passed by the Governor of Manipur, said, "The Governor of Manipur is pleased to authorize all District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and all Executive Magistrates/ Special executive Magistrates detailed by the District Magistrates to issue Shoot at sight orders in extreme cases whereby all forms of persuasion, warning, reasonable force, etc. had been exhausted under the provisions of law under CrPC, 1973."

The opinion poll stated that out of 224 assembly seats in Karnataka, the Congress might win some 107 to 119 seats, while BJP is likely to bag some 74 to 86 seats and JD(S) can secure between 23 and 35 seats.&nbsp;

The polls suggest that Congress could end up securing some 40 per cent vote share, BJP might be five per cent behind and is likely to secure 35 per cent and JD (S) may get 17 per cent of the votes.&nbsp;

Another opinion poll by India Today-CVoter also predicted that "BJP is likely to lose" in Karnataka's assembly election. The poll also suggested that the current governing party BJP will secure just 74-86 seats, 24 down from the 2018 election.&nbsp;

As per the opinion poll, opposition leader Siddaramaiah of the Congress party is the most favoured leader with 42 per cent, followed by Chief Minister Basaraj Bommai with a 31 per cent vote.&nbsp;

Similarly, a&nbsp;pre-poll survey conducted by a&nbsp;Kannada outlet Eedina claimed that&nbsp;the Congress appears to be headed for a clear and comfortable majority with 32-140 seats, while BJP is predicted to win 57-65 seats, with a vote share of 33 per cent.

However, a&nbsp;poll of Zee News-Matrize and Kannada&nbsp;news channel Suvarna News 24x7&nbsp;claims&nbsp;that the ruling BJP will again emerge as the single-largest party, followed by Congress and then JD (S).&nbsp;

In an exclusive interview with The Hindu, Home Minister Amit Shah said that BJP stands for the promotion of all Indian languages and that the accusation that the party only promotes "Hindi" is politically motivated.&nbsp;

Shah when asked about Karnataka election results said that BJP would win an absolute majority. He said, "This is an important election for the BJP, and we will form the government with a full majority in Karnataka."
