Reports indicate that this joint effort also led to the arrest of a suspect involved in an international drug trafficking network.

The investigation began in August 2023, as per sources cited in The Economic Times. Acting on information provided by US authorities, the ED recently took action against two Indian individuals allegedly tied to a drug trafficking ring.

On April 27, Parvinder Singh and Banmeet Singh were apprehended in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following raids conducted the day before.

The group reportedly used dark web marketplaces and online ads to sell drugs, establishing a network of distributors and distribution cells.

Cryptocurrency payments were allegedly involved in these transactions, with funds laundered through crypto wallets.

They operated under various aliases on platforms like Silk Road 1, AlphaBay, and Hansa.

A Kerala court on Monday sentenced a 44-year-old man to a cumulative 106 years' imprisonment for raping and impregnating a 15-year-old mentally challenged girl in this mountainous district of the state.

Devikulam Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) Judge Sirajuddin P A handed down varying sentences to the man, who was a friend of the victim's mother, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for a total of 106 years, Special Public Prosecutor Smiju K Das said.

However, as the sentences will be served concurrently and the highest of the jail terms given to the man is 22 years, he will be serving 22 years in prison.

The court also imposed a fine of&nbsp;₹&nbsp;60,000 on the man. If the convict does not pay the fine amount, he will have to undergo an additional 22 months of rigorous imprisonment.

The court ordered that if the accused pays the fine, the amount should be paid to the girl as compensation from the victim compensation scheme of the Idukki District Legal Services Authority.

The incident took place in 2022 when the accused, a native of Thrissur, had come to Adimali for work. He had been working together with the girl's mother in a hotel and, after becoming friendly with her, he stayed with them in their house.

Then, when the girl's mother and siblings were not at home, the accused began sexually exploiting the girl. He had also threatened the girl, saying that he would kill her if she disclosed the incidents to them.

The incidents came to light when the mother brought the girl to Adimali Taluk Hospital due to physical difficulties, and the doctor found out that the girl was pregnant. The doctor reported the incident to the police.

The pregnancy of the girl was aborted at Idukki Medical College Hospital.

Subsequently, DNA tests were conducted on the medical samples of the aborted foetus of the girl and the accused, revealing that the father of the unborn child of the girl was the accused.&nbsp;

The NCERT releases new textbooks annually before the start of the academic year. Although there isn't a set requirement to review textbooks each year, the Council has been updating content since 2017. In 2022-2023, significant changes were made as part of a syllabus revision in order to ease&nbsp;student stress during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Ministry has told the NCERT that books should be reviewed on a yearly basis. They are soon going to put that system in place. It is important that when a student buys a book ahead of the new session it has to be the updated version of that book,” said an official, as quoted by ANI.

Explaining the reason behind it, the official said, “NCERT books once published should not remain the same for many years. They should be reviewed every year before printing and if any changes have to be made or some new facts have to be added, they should be included in the books. For instance, topics like Artificial Intelligence (AI) that are evolving. So far, there had been no mandate of yearly review of the textbooks.”

As per the official mentioned, it will require a minimum of two years to publish textbooks for all classes in accordance with the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF).

This year, NCERT is updating textbooks to match the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) from last year, following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

So far, only new textbooks for classes 3rd and 6th have been released in line with the NCF. The revisions include hefty changes in History, Political Science, and Sociology textbooks. Some topics like Babri Masjid, Hindutva politics, the 2002 Gujarat riots, and minorities have been removed.

In 2022-2023, significant changes were made as part of a syllabus revision in order to ease student stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Ministry has told the NCERT that books should be reviewed on a yearly basis. They are soon going to put that system in place. It is important that when a student buys a book ahead of the new session it has to be the updated version of that book,” said an official, as quoted by ANI. Explaining the reason behind it, the official said, “NCERT books once published should not remain the same for many years. They should be reviewed every year before printing and if any changes have to be made or some new facts have to be added, they should be included in the books. For instance, topics like Artificial Intelligence (AI) that are evolving. In Bengaluru, a doctor sprang into action to rescue a woman who collapsed at a polling booth earlier on Friday (April 26).&nbsp;Dr&nbsp;Ganesh Srinivasa Prasad, a nephrologist and transplant physician, was waiting in line with many others when the woman fainted.

According to Dr&nbsp;Prasad, the woman suffered a cardiac arrest at the polling booth. Recognising that she had no pulse, the nephrologist from Bengaluru immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). His intervention successfully revived the woman, who regained spontaneous circulation shortly afterwards.

Dr&nbsp;Prasad shared a photograph of the woman collapsed on the ground and a video showing&nbsp;her awake and being assisted onto a stretcher.

“As I was waiting in queue....one lady had syncope and cardiac arrest in front of me. There was no pulse and I started immediate CPR ... luckily she got ROSC within minutes,” he wrote.

Kalavathi, aged 78 and from Bengaluru, found herself torn over voting after being hospitalised for low blood oxygen levels. Urgently admitted with symptoms of cough and breathlessness, she surprised everyone by being taken&nbsp;to the polling booth on Friday (April 26), where she cast her vote while lying on a stretcher.

Medical examinations showed her oxygen saturation to be at 80 per cent, significantly lower than the typical 95 per cent&nbsp;or higher, leading to a diagnosis of pneumonia.

Dr Aravinda GM, from Manipal Hospital in Jayanagar, initiated treatment for&nbsp;Kalavathi, administering antibiotics alongside oxygen therapy, inhalation, antiviral medications, and supportive care.
