The team selection has been seen as another missed opportunity for giving more youngsters a chance and one of those names is Sarfaraz Khan. The batsman, who plays for Mumbai in first class cricket, has been piling runs for nearly four seasons but has been overlooked once again.

Reacting to yet another chance not given, Sarfaraz, in what seemed like a tongue in cheek&nbsp;reply to the news, posted a video highlight of himself on his Instagram handle. Talking about his career, Sarfaraz made his debut in 2014 but has grabbed everybody's attention in last three-four seasons of domestic cricket. Khan has scored 2,466 of his 3,505 runs runs in first class cricket since 2019/20 season. The right-hand batsman had scored 928 runs in 2019/20 season at an astonishing average of 154. In the next season, he amassed 982 runs at an average of 122.75 before hitting 556 runs in the last season.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was one among many who criticised Sarfaraz's omission from both Test and limited-over squad. Notably, other young players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been included in the Test squad while Gaikwad making the cut for ODIs as well.&nbsp;

Sarfaraz, however, did not have a great IPL 2023 during which he played in just four matches and scored only 53 runs for Delhi Capitals. Gaikwad and Jaiswal, however, had a brilliant season unlike Khan as they scored 590 runs in 16 games and 625 runs in 14 games, respectively.

Sarfaraz Khan posts CHEEKY reply after being snubbed by selectors for West Indies tour

Mumbai Ranji team’s star batter and Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and his family were full of emotions on his&nbsp;being named in India’s Test squad for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. The selectors announced the squad for India’s tour of West Indies on Friday, June 23 with Jaiswal one of the uncapped players named in the squad. He will be joined by the uncapped contingent of Mukesh Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad while Navdeep Saini made a surprise return to the Test team.

<h2>Jaiswal’s father full of emotions</h2>

"My father started crying. I have not yet met my mother [since the announcement], I am going to see her in some time. I was out from the morning, had a practice session as well as some other work," Jaiswal told PTI in an interview in Mumbai on Friday.

"I am feeling good, I will try to do my best. I am excited but at the same time I just want to go out and express myself."

The star batter at just 21 has taken the domestic circuit by storm and scored nine hundreds in 15 first-class matches. In this period,&nbsp;he has scored 845 runs at an average of 80.21. He did not stop there as he continued his impressive run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season where he ended with the most runs by an uncapped Indian player.

In 14 IPL matches, Jaiswal scored 625 runs and scored the fastest fifty in IPL history in just 13 balls during the 2023 season.

"I was a little nervous, till the time you do not get to know that your name is there in the team, there are butterflies. But it is a good feeling. My preparations have been going well and I got to interact a lot with the senior players [during the WTC final]. The conversation has been very simple - to focus on my work. I learned from them that in the end, it is all about you, how you take it going forward," Jaiswal added.

The Indian team will begin its quest for glory in the Caribbean Islands on July 12 as they will look to start the next WTC campaign on a high. Rohit Sharma, despite in a poor run of form, will lead the team while Ajinkya Rahane has been named as the deputy to his fellow Mumbaikar.

The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel on Saturday (February 19) announced India's Test and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. India will play three T20Is followed by a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home starting from February 24. While there weren't any surprises in the T20I squad, a number of senior players were dropped from the Test team.

Besides appointing Rohit Sharma as India's permanent skipper in Tests, the national selectors made a bold call by dropping the Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha from the squad. While Pujara and Rahane's poor form had been under the scanner for a while now, Ishant and Saha have had to deal with a lot of fitness issues and have been replaced by youngsters in the side.

Explaining the reason behind dropping Rahane and Pujara, who once used to be integral members of the Indian Test team, Chetan Sharma, the chairman of the selection panel said it was a decision taken after a lot of deliberation. Sharma said the selectors want to give chances to other players while Pujara and Rahane have been asked to perform in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

"We have deliberated a lot on them. We decided not to consider them for the SL series. We asked them to play Ranji. For these two matches, we decided to give chance to others. They can still make a comeback. Ajinkya got a hundred in the Ranji match. It is a bad phase. It is very important for the selectors to manage them," Sharma said.

While many are expecting this to be the final nail in the coffin for all four senior players as far as their Test careers are concerned, Sharma revealed they can still make a comeback in the side on the basis of their performances in the Ranji Trophy.

"We have informed them that Ishant and Wriddhi will not be considered for the two-match Test series against SL. But the door is not closed to them. We have requested all four to play the Ranji Trophy," said Sharma.

In the absence of Pant, senior keeper Wriddhiman Saha has been selected in the squad along with young KS Bharat, who has been continuously impressing in the domestic circuit. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been rested from the T20I series against the Kiwis, will return to feature in the Tests.

Senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has also been rested from the T20Is will continue his break and will not take part in the Test series. In his absence, India have handed a maiden Test call-up to Prasidh Krishna, who will be eager to make his Test debut after impressing in the domestic circuit.

Haryana all-rounder Jayant Yadav and Axar Patel have been also included in the squad. India have a total of four spin all-rounders in the team with R Ashwin and Jadeja likely to be the first-choice players. India will play two Tests against New Zealand in Kanpur and Mumbai respectively.
