An eerie discovery has been made at The Old Bell Hotel in the United Kingdom. Archaeologists have stumbled upon human remains dating as far back as 1,000 years. Of these, 24 are "identifiable" skeletons dug up during excavation work, as per a press release. It includes men, women and kids, all of whom lived and died in Malmesbury Abbey. The researchers weren't actually looking for human remains but accidentally stumbled upon them when 13 dig sites across the town were excavated. Notably, the hotel is a recognised historical site dating back to 1220.&nbsp;

Volunteers worked with the archaeologists as part of the Big Athelstan Dig. The community archaeology event celebrates the 1,100th anniversary of Athelstan becoming the First King of all England.

As per the researchers, the human burials are from the 7th century, while the skeletons, identified as Anglo-Saxon, are likely from 670 to 940 AD. Cotswold Archaeology, who were involved in the digging, say that the discovery of human remains is not surprising since there was a church nearby. However, the sheer number of the remains has astounded the archaeologists.&nbsp;

The hotel is located next to Malmesbury Abbey and the "graves are positioned not in the believed location of the medieval cemetery – to the south of the Abbey – but west of the former cloisters," a representative of Cotswold Archaeology told Fox News.&nbsp;

The discovery of Saxon remains is also surprising, since no physical evidence has been found of an early monastic life in Malmesbury.

The Old Bell Hotel was built approximately 500 years after the burials happened, so experts think the builders likely weren't aware of a cemetery being there. But construction workers must have come across the remains but built the hotel anyway.&nbsp;

"There is plentiful archaeological evidence that medieval walls were constructed directly over, and sometimes even through, burials," the representative said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, hotel owners, Jim and Whit Hanks, are honoured to be a part of history.&nbsp;

"It's fitting that the earliest remains have been found near the Abbey, on the grounds of England's oldest hotel," they said.&nbsp;

Cotswold Archaeology currently has the remains and a decision on their storage will be made “in due course”, a hotel representative said.&nbsp;

Hikers found human remains Saturday in a Southern California mountain area where actor Julian Sands disappeared five months ago, authorities said.

The body discovered around 10 a.m. in the wilderness near Mount Baldy was transported to the coroner’s office for identification next week, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Sands, an avid hiker and mountaineer, was reported missing on January 13 after setting out on the peak that rises more than 10,000 feet (3,048 metres) east of Los Angeles. The region was pounded by severe storms during winter.

On Friday, his family released its first statement since Sands’ disappearance.

“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,” the statement said.

Sands, a 65-year-old British-born actor best known for his role in the 1985 film A Room With a View,&nbsp;is married to journalist Evgenia Citkowitz and has three adult children.

A June 17 search for Sands, the eighth organised search since his disappearance, was unsuccessful, authorities said.

As per reports, the officials are still trying to determine how many bodies are there.&nbsp;

<h2>What do we know so far?</h2>

The 45 bags which contained dismembered bodies were found at a forest overlook located in the Mirador del Bosque, a suburb of the western Mexican city of Guadalajara, reported DW.&nbsp;

However, the Jalisco state prosecutor’s office, which issued the statement about the bags, said it was not immediately clear if the remains were those of the seven missing workers but said that they will continue the search.&nbsp;

The bags were recovered from a 40-metre-deep ravine in an area with difficult access, said the state prosecutors. According to a report by the Associated Press, firefighters and civil defence used a helicopter to recover remains from the gorge and will continue to inspect the site in the upcoming days.

The officials also said that they began investigating after they received a report of possible body parts in the area. The first bag of human remains was reportedly found on Tuesday which led to the discovery of dozens of them by the next day. Preliminary reports suggest that the remains are of both men and women.&nbsp;

The search is being coordinated by the police with the Zapopan city’s civil protection forces and firefighters who worked to extract the bags found from the ravine. A report by DW citing the prosecution said, forensic personnel were also present at the site to determine the number of possible victims and to try and identify them.&nbsp;

A report by the AP citing federal government data said there are more than 110,000 missing people in Mexico out of which 15,000 are in Jalisco, which has reported the highest number.&nbsp;

In December, local authorities found four human skulls inside a package at the Queretaro Intercontinental Airport in central Mexico, headed to the United States. The skulls were found wrapped in aluminium foil inside a cardboard box and sent from the western coastal state of Michoacan, which is said to be one of the most violent parts of the country and destined for an address in the US state of South Carolina.&nbsp;
