<p>A trailer for 'They/Them' is here. This is not your typical horror slasher film. It is set in a conversion camp where parents send their LGBTQ children to become, um, 'normal' as they see it. Written and directed by John Logan, who created the hit Victorian-era London set horror series 'Penny Dreadful', the movie is a twist on the slasher genre. The trailer has the children arriving at the camp and being welcomed by the man in charge, Owen Whistler -- played by Kevin Bacon. Although he is all smiles and talks to them cheerfully, you can gauge something sinister beneath his exterior.</p>

<p>As they settle in the camp, which promises respect, renewal and joy, the teens are hunted by a mysterious masked killer. Amid the murders, there are brutal methods designed to break the attendees, but we are shown only hints of that.</p>

<p>Sadly, gay conversion exists, and an unscientific belief among many persists that those whose sexual orientation is anything other than straight can be cured to go the "right" way. This film appears to use that real-world horror and fuses it with the slasher genre. The slasher genre, after peaking in the 1970s and the 1980s, has found resurgence in the last half a decade. Dealing with societal issues looks like the logical development in the genre. And the result here looks great.</p>

<p>'They/Them', which takes its name from the preferred pronouns of some members of the trans community, as far as trailer goes anyway, looks absolutely worth waiting for.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'A Beautiful Mind' actor Russell Crowe will next be seen in a supernatural horror thriller titled 'The Pope's Exorcist,' in which he will portray the real-life character of Father Gabriele Amorth, the chief exorcist of the Vatican City, who performed over 100,000 exorcisms in his life. Father Amorth has also written two memoirs, titled 'An Exorcist Tells His Story' and 'An Exorcist: More Stories'. His memoirs contain accounts of his experiences of battling demons that possessed people. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 91.</p>

<p>Helmed by Julius Avery, the script of the film is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and will be produced by Screen Gems, who has acquired the life rights of Father Gabriele Amorth from producer Michael Patrick Kaczmarek and production company, Loyola Productions. Avery is known for his 2018 super-hit horror film, ‘Overlord’.&nbsp;</p>

"Unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms" reads the synopsis of the film.&nbsp;Known for films like ‘100 Bloody Acres’, and ‘Scare Campaign’, Australian duo Cameron and Colin Cairnes have co-written and co-directed ‘Late Night With the Devil’.&nbsp;Variety reported that the film was signed as part of a multi-picture deal between Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Spooky Pictures production houses.</p>

<p>The writers and directors of the horror film disclosed in a statement that the movie was based on an intriguing idea that was typical of the 1970s and 1980s when late-night chat shows had ‘something slightly dangerous’ about them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In the 70s and 80s, there was something slightly dangerous about late-night TV. Talk shows in particular were a window into some strange adult world. We thought combining that charged, live-to-air atmosphere with the supernatural could make for a uniquely frightening film experience" said the Cairnes duo.&nbsp;</p>

There's also an old, disconnected telephone that rings at night with calls from the dead. Derrickson and Cargill will also produce the film along with Blumhouse's Jason Blum.</p>

<p>The film reunites Hawke with Blumhouse. The Oscar-nominee previously starred in 'The Purge,'&nbsp;and appeared as abolitionist John Brown in Showtime’s “The Good Lord Bird,” both of which the company produced. Hawke’s also a close friend of Blumhouse founder Jason Blum.</p>

<p>Derrickson previously directed 'Sinister'&nbsp;and 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose,'&nbsp;as well as Marvel's&nbsp;'Doctor Strange.'&nbsp;He was originally slated to direct “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,' the sequel to the film, but left the project in 2020 due to creative differences<br />
