Three independent legislators (MLAs) from the northern Indian state of Haryana said on&nbsp; Tuesday (May 7) that they were withdrawing support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the state.&nbsp;

The three MLAs—Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen and Dharampal Gonder—also declared they were extending support to the Congress party.&nbsp;

This&nbsp;is seen&nbsp;as a major setback for Prime Minister Narendra&nbsp;Modi’s&nbsp;party as Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini-led government has now lost majority in the state.

"We are withdrawing support to the government. We are extending our support to the Congress,"&nbsp;Gonder declared in a press conference in Rohtak in the presence of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Udai Bhan.

"We have taken this decision on various issues including those related to farmers,"&nbsp;he added.

Udai Bhan&nbsp;meanwhile&nbsp;asked CM Saini to tender his resignation as he claimed his government was now in minority.

“I&nbsp;also want to say that present strength of (90-member) Haryana Assembly is 88, of which the BJP has 40 members. The BJP government earlier had support of JJP MLAs and Independents, but JJP had also withdrawn support and now Independents are also leaving,”&nbsp;he said.

"Nayab Singh Saini government is now a minority government. He should tender his resignation as he does not have right to stay even for a minute,"&nbsp;Bhan added.

He also urged that assembly elections should be held in the state immediately. Assembly elections are due in October in Haryana.

The total strength of the Haryana assembly is 90&nbsp;and&nbsp;the majority mark is 46. As of now, BJP had the support of 47 MLAs (40 MLAs of BJP, six independent MLAs and lone MLA of Haryana Lokhit Party). As the three independent MLAs have withdrawn support, the current strength of the Saini government has fallen to 44.&nbsp;

It means that the Saini administration is now a minority government.

Manohar Lal Khattar will take oath as Haryana Chief Minister for the second term on Sunday.

The announcement came after Khattar was elected as BJP's legislative party leader.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was also present at the BJP legislative party meeting said, "We will go to meet the Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya, and request him to invite us to form the government."

On Saturday, BJP national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah met JJP leaders and announced the merger in Haryana.

"Accepting the mandate by the people of Haryana, leaders of both parties (BJP-JJP) have decided that BJP-JJP will form the government together in Haryana. The Chief Minister will be from BJP and Deputy Chief Minister will be from JJP," he said after the meeting.

BJP won 40 seats in the 90-member assembly while JJP bagged 10 seats in its debut polls.

Congress won 31 seats in the state. Eight seats went to Independents including Haryana Lokhit Party's Gopal Kanda.&nbsp;

Will be good if someone decides not to screen 'Padmaavat': Haryana CM

The Jat community of India&#39;s northern state Haryana has called off plans to hold a peaceful demonstration by 15 days in New Delhi tomorrow after talks with the central and state government.&nbsp;

Haryana chief minister ML Khattar said his government and the central government will soon begin the process of giving Jats reservation, or the Indian term for affirmative action.

He said the reservation process at centre will begin after the appointment of a chairman and members of the National Commission for Backward Classes.

&quot;The government will now work according to the law and will undertake a survey and check ground realities so that the decision that we finally take will stand in court,&quot; PP Chaudhary,&nbsp;Minister of State for Law and Justice said. 
 
&quot;The reservation process will expedite after appointment of National Commission of Backward Classes (NCBC) chairperson and we want to ensure reservation for the community which is not stuck anywhere due to legal issues,&quot; he added.

The talks were held between the Haryana chief minister, Yashpal Malik, chairperson of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) which is spearheading the agitation, and Union Cabinet Ministers Birender Singh and PP Chaudhary who both are Jats.

Yashpal Malik was accompanied by a group of 60-70 representatives of various khaps (sub-sects) of the Jat community.

&quot;Ab Jat Dilli na aa rahe (Now Jats are not coming to Delhi). We have called off our agitation and march towards Delhi. The state government has agreed to our demands,&quot; Yashpal Malik told the press after the meeting.

He added that the community will call off its dharna (demonstration) from most of the places in the state, barring few where it will continue with symbolic protests.

The Jats, who have for long been demanding reservations in government jobs and educational institutions, had threatened to march on the national capital tomorrow to press their demand.

The All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti (AIJASS) had called on the Jats to gherao (encircle) Indian Parliament&nbsp;and to block entry points into the city.

Prohibitory orders had been clamped in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to stop the protesters from entering Delhi, with around 24,700 paramilitary personnel mobilised to maintain peace. 
 
Metro and road transport was earlier curtailed and several schools have been closed in the national capital as a precautionary measure.

However, soon after the suspension of the stir, transport services were resumed in the city with restrictions on exit from a few metro stations.

Besides reservations in government jobs and educational institutions, the Jats are also calling for charges to be dropped against last year&#39;s agitators&nbsp;and that government jobs be given to the next of kin of the men killed in last year&#39;s demonstrations.&nbsp;Around 30 people were killed and more than 300 people injured when a similar agitation by the Jats had resulted in large-scale violence in Haryana in February last year. 
 
A Haryana ministerial panel led by senior Minister Ram Bilas Sharma had held talks with the Jats in Panipat on March 16 after which the minister had said that an agreement had been reached with the community and the deadlock could end soon.

The Jat community of India's northern state Haryana has called off plans to hold a peaceful demonstration by 15 days in New Delhi tomorrow after talks with the central and state government. Haryana chief minister ML Khattar said his government and the central government will soon begin the process of giving Jats reservation, or the Indian term for affirmative action. He said the reservation process at centre will begin after the appointment of a chairman and members of the National Commission for Backward Classes. "The government will now work according to the law and will undertake a survey and check ground realities so that the decision that we finally take will stand in court," PP Chaudhary, Minister of State for Law and Justice said. "The reservation process will expedite after appointment of National Commission of Backward Classes (NCBC) chairperson and we want to ensure reservation for the community which is not stuck anywhere due to legal issues," he added. The talks were held between the Haryana chief minister, Yashpal Malik, chairperson of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) which is spearheading the agitation, and Union Cabinet Ministers Birender Singh and PP Chaudhary who both are Jats. Yashpal Malik was accompanied by a group of 60-70 representatives of various khaps (sub-sects) of the Jat community. "Centre and state will soon begin the process of giving reservation, following the Delhi High court order," Khattar told reporters in a joint press conference with Yashpal Malik. He also appealed to people in the state to cooperate in maintaining peace and harmony.
