Pakistan will release 360 Indian in its custody in this month with the first batch of 100 Indians being released on Monday. Most of them are fishermen who are from Gujarat and some from UP.

Next batch of 100 will be released on April 15, followed by 100 on April 22 and 60 on April 29.

The development comes in the backdrop of New Delhi sending a note verbale to Pakistan high commission on Tuesday calling for the release of the 385 Indian fishermen who have completed their sentences.&nbsp;

503 Indian fishermen are believed to be in Pakistan’s custody of which Pakistan has acknowledged the custody of 483 fishermen who are Indian or believed-to-be-Indian in their jails.&nbsp;

Since 2014, the Indian Government has been able to secure the release of 1749 Indian prisoners, including 1725 fishermen along with 57 boats.

In December of 2018, Pakistan released Indian Citizen Hamid Nehal Ansari after six years in jail. Hamid Nehal was arrested by Pakistani authorities in 2012 after he was caught with a fake passport. He had gone to Pakistan via Afghanistan on a fake passport to meet a girl he befriended on Facebook.

It was followed by the release of two Pakistani nationals by India--Imran Warsi and Abdullah Shah. Imran Wari had come to India in 2004 on a valid visa but overstayed after marrying an Indian girl. He was caught after trying to make a fake passport in Bhopal and was released in 2018, after spending 10 years in jail. Shah, an autistic from swat, crossed over to India to meet Shah Rukh Khan in 2017.

In October 2017, India had suggested Pakistan that the two sides could work together for the release and repatriation of elderly, women and mentally unsound prisoners on humanitarian grounds and proposed to revive the mechanism of Joint Judicial Committee.

In the past 6 months, the ministry of external affairs via--3 note verbale, one on 1 January, other in December and November-- had called on Islamabad to organise an early visit of Joint Judicial Committee to Pakistan but it has got no response.

India released a second Pakistani national, Abdullah, on Wednesday. Abdullah said he had crossed over to India in 2017 to meet Shah Rukh Khan.&nbsp;

What he said that he was in love with a girl and in pursuit of the girl he followed her and landed up in Pakistan. There he was arrested on being a spy."

The spokesperson added that "the girl for whom he had gone to Pakistan had testified in his favour, that he had come to meet her, but he was put in jail."

Hamid was also under pressure to sign papers that said he was a spy.&nbsp;

Remember, while announcing Hamid's release in a tweet, the spokesperson of Pakistan's ministry of foreign affairs, Dr Mohammad Faisal, had called him a spy.&nbsp;

WION spoke to Hamid after his release and asked him what he had had to endure in Pakistan.&nbsp;

"Can't give you the details but initially when I was arrested I lost all hopes that I will go home ever. I started praying for my parents, I started praying for my loved ones. But suddenly it was a miracle. Almighty gave this hope in me, don't worry, one day you will go back. Combined efforts paid," Hamid answered.&nbsp;

He also told WION that it was a "mistake" to go to Pakistan and his "intentions weren't against anyone. Not even a single person. My intention were to go there and rescue my friend. But the step or method I took was wrong. I accepted. I repent. I committed a mistake and I was punished for it."

Hamid was optimistic about the future and "<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/message-to-india-pak-govts-is-humanity-is-bigger-than-any-religion-hamid-nihal-ansari-to-wion-185377">look forward to joining Jatin to help people to go back</a>".

Two days after he was handed over to India at the Wagah-Attari border, Ansari, 33, and his parents left New Delhi in the morning in an Air India flight and arrived at the airport here around 9.30 am, his father Nihal Ansari said.

Relatives, friends and well-wishers greeted and cheered for him as he came out of the airport. The family then left for their residence in suburban Versova.

Before leaving for home, Ansari told mediapersons at the airport he did make "mistakes" in the past. "I had my own mistakes but now I want to move towards the future. I don't want to go into those things now, I had my own sins and mistakes."

Ansari said while waiting to cross the border at Amritsar after his release from the Pakistan jail on Tuesday, he caught a glimpse of his parents, who were waiting for him on the Indian side, first time in six years.

"I was not able to meet them (immediately) as I was on the Pakistan side. At that time, I realised how much they must have suffered for me. I wanted to meet them immediately, but could not," Ansari said.

Asked about an eye injury he apparently suffered during interrogation at the Pakistani prison, Ansari said the interrogation process cannot be avoided.

"During the interrogation, the retina of my eye got ruptured. But, they admitted me to a government hospital and it was treated...They compensated for it ( treatment)," he said.

On an alleged attack on him inside the Peshawar prison, he said it was due to a "misunderstanding" which escalated.

Asked about his future plans, the software engineer said first there will be a celebration with the family. "(then) I have to find a job and after that I also have to find a woman to get married...Pehle naukri phir chokri."

The Mumbai resident, who returned to India on Tuesday after crossing the Wagah-Attari border, was imprisoned in the Peshawar Central Jail after being sentenced by a military court on December 15, 2015.

According to official sources, India issued 96 notes verbales to Pakistan seeking consular access to Ansari. The decision to release him was taken due to relentless pressure from New Delhi, they said.

Shortly before his arrival on Tuesday, his mother Fauzia Ansari had told reporters that the prayers of the family and of all those who wished for his safe return were answered. His father had said it was a new dawn for them.

Ansari and his family have thanked External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her ministry for persisting with the case and taking it up with Islamabad.

His jail term ended on December 15 but he was not able to leave for India as his legal documents were not ready.

On Thursday, the Peshawar High Court gave the Pakistan government a month's time to complete his repatriation process.

Ansari had an emotional interaction with Swaraj on Wednesday as he narrated the difficult phase he had to endure through in Pakistan.

The court had tried him for possessing a fake identity card. However, reports claimed that he crossed over to Pakistan after he met a girl online, fell in love and decided to pursue her in Pakistan. He was arrested after the girl's family complained that he was travelling illegally. He officially arrested later for after a military court tried him for espionage.

Ansari's jail term had ended on December 15th. He was kept behind bars for a month as Pakistan authorities were finishing documents related to his release.&nbsp;

Last Thursday, the Peshawar High Court granted the Pakistan government a month deadline to complete his repatriation process. According to sources, India issued a total of 96 note verbales to Pakistan seeking consular for Ansari.

"We would like Pakistan to take action to also end misery of other Indian nationals and fishermen whose nationality has been confirmed and who have completed their sentences, but continue to languish in Pakistan jails," India's foreign ministry spokesperson said.

Jatin Desai: Absolutely, I am thrilled and happy. It is a historic day for India-Pakistan relations. After so many years, he will come back. He was imprisoned for six years. He was arrested on November 14, 2012, which is more than six years.&nbsp;

He was an innocent guy, he went to Pakistan for the sake of his love. He was in love with a girl from Kohat. He just entered Pakistan and he was caught. We also believe, there are many prisoners. Hamid is not alone. There are several like him in India and Pakistan, they need to be released. They need to be seen from a humanitarian perspective, which we don't.&nbsp;

Hamid can set an example. This is the time, India and Pakistan should release prisoners from their custody.

WION: &nbsp;Did you expect him to be released soon?

Jatin Desai: I was expecting it, although I didn't think he would be released on Tuesday. It's a pleasant shock, pleasant shocks are always welcome.&nbsp;

The new government in Pakistan, especially Imran Khan&nbsp;took the initiative. Next year will be the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, so the Kartarpur corridor has come up, let us hope. I always live in optimism. I believe, tomorrow will be better than today.

WION: Talk to us about your struggles. Issues you faced?

Jatin Desai: I am interested in the plight of the fishermen who have been arrested, I want them to be released. There are 400 Indian fishermen in Pakistan's custody and 150 Pakistan fishermen in Indian custody.

It is very difficult. It is because of a lack of trust. We need to have trust between the two countries. In the case of Hamid, I must say, that in Pakistan a couple of friends and others tirelessly worked to get him released.&nbsp;

There were&nbsp;senior lawyers, women lawyers, who worked for his release, without any expectations. It is also a victory of the Indian and Pakistani media including the Indian and Pakistani social activists.

Last year, India had asked for consular access for Hamid Ansari who was in the list of prisoners held in Pakistan which was rejected.&nbsp;

Ansari's lawyer, Qazi Muhammad Anwar, said that his client's prison term will end on December 15 and he should be released on the morning of December 16.

Anwar informed the bench that the sentence of Indian national would complete after two days and both the Ministry of Interior and authorities of prison, where he was lodged, were completely silent about his release and deportation to India.

After hearing this, Justice Khan asked the Additional Attorney General to explain how would they keep the prisoner in jail after completion of his term.

"I wonder that after two days the jail term of the prisoner would be completed and the government did not complete requirements for releasing and deportation of the prisoner," the judge observed after additional attorney general informed the court that documents for release and deportation of the prisoner were not ready.

An officer, representing the interior ministry, informed the court that a prisoner could be kept for one month while the legal documents were being prepared.

After knowing the legal position, the court directed the ministry to make all the arrangements within a month for releasing and deportation of the prisoner.

His term in the jail is due to end on December 13, however, the Pakistan&nbsp;court said that the complete process for the release of Ansari will take a month.

Ansari had filed a plea for remissions in his sentence which was rejected by Pakistan in 2017.

A remission or a shortening of a sentence is usually given to prisoners in lieu of good behaviour.&nbsp;

The jail authorities had rejected his plea claiming&nbsp;that the remission rules do not apply to him and he was charged and convicted for anti-state activities.

Ansari's lawyer, Qazi Mohammad Anwar had claimed Ansari should be granted remission since he was not involved in the anti-state activity.

Ansari initially went missing in Pakistan in 2012 after he crossed over from Afghanistan.

Ansari had come to Pakistan because of a love affair over the Internet.

The girl's family complained to authorities that he was travelling illegally, leading to his arrest in 2012. However, his arrest was not shown officially until 2016, when the authorities told the courts that he had been tried for espionage at a military court.

India&#39;s external affairs ministry said today it is in touch with Pakistan after it refused to remit the sentence of Hamid Nehal Ansari, an Indian national who was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in 2016 by a military court in Pakistan on charges of espionage.

&quot;We are in touch with the Pakistani authorities, will update after any further development,&quot; Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told ANI.

Zeenat was recently recovered but no one has been accountable for her disappearance. Human rights activist feel it is impossible to punish those responsible.
