A group of US lawmakers has urged the Joe Biden and his administration to take executive action to make priority dates current for Green Card applicants from India to reduce the long wait period and backlog which has left them in a constant state of limbo.

According to reports, the Indian diaspora can now get a green card in the United States by paying a supplemental fee which is also categorised as "super-fee" allowing them to jump the queue and obtain permanent visas.

US President Joe Biden on Wednesday revoked a proclamation issued by Donald Trump that blocked several green card holders from entering the United States. Biden's predecessor Trump imposed the ban last year in a bid to protect the jobs of Americans amid high unemployment due to the pandemic.

Current US rules limit any one country to 7 percent of all employment-based green cards. Indians make up more than 6 lakh of those whose paperwork is approved but are waiting.
