<p>After the initial calamity, a second explosion shook the same liquefied petroleum gas station in the evening hours of the same day. This blast had far-reaching consequences, as it caused injuries to&nbsp;26 firefighters who had been engaged in emergency response efforts.</p>

<p>Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat, who oversees the emergency response unit, conveyed this information to the local media outlets.</p>

<h2><strong>Severe injuries&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Among the 46 individuals harmed in the incident, eight suffered injuries that necessitated intubation due to severe burns.</p>

<p>In an attempt to manage the crisis and provide the necessary medical care, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu shared that four of the injured victims were being considered for transfer to medical facilities in Italy and Belgium.</p>

<p>"We think four of the patients will more than certainly be transferred tonight to hospitals in Italy and Belgium," Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu reportedly said post an emergency meeting with the state agencies involved in handling the crisis.</p>

<p>The ships of MSC’s CLF (Military Sealift Command Combat Logistics Force) are the supply lines to U.S. Navy ships at sea. These ships provide virtually everything US Navy ships need, including fuel, food, fleet ordnance and dry cargo, spare parts, mail, and other supplies.  </p>

<p>All CLF ships are government-owned and operated by U.S. government civil service mariners. In addition to U.S. Navy ships, Military Sealift Command’s Combat Logistics Force also resupplies international partners and allies operating in the Indo-Pacific Region. CLF ships enable the US Navy fleet to remain at sea and combat ready for extended periods of time.  </p>

<p>The USNS Charles Drew is 689 ft long, 106 ft wide, has a displacement of 41,000 tons, and can travel at a speed of 20 knots. The ship is manned by a 53-member crew and can carry over 6,600 tonnes of dry cargo, over 1,700 tonnes of refrigerated stores, and 18,000 barrels of cargo fuel. A barrel is a unit of volume equal to 42 U.S. gallons or 9702.0 cubic inches.</p>

<p>The USNS Charles Drew is designed to carry 63% more cargo than previous AE and AFS classes of ships, and it can accommodate two vertical replenishment helicopters.</p>

<p>In a bid to combat the climate crisis, Los Angeles may likely ban the construction of new gas stations and may go all-electric. Once implemented, the car-reliant area will become the second city in California state to prohibit the construction of gas stations. The first city was Petaluma.</p>

<p>On Wednesday,&nbsp;Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz announced&nbsp;that he is currently working on the policy along with several smaller cities across the US&nbsp;and Canada.</p>

<p>According to The Guardian, apart from Los Angeles (LA), other cities like Bethlehem, New York, and Comox valley regional district, British Columbia, are also working to bring policies that would stop the development of new fossil fuel infrastructure.</p>

<p>With its proposal,&nbsp;LA has inched closer to joining the SAFE City movement, a group of cities whose aim is to limit fossil fuel usage with local policies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We are ending oil drilling in Los Angeles. We are moving to all-electric new construction. And we are building toward fossil fuel-free transportation,” Paul Koretz, the LA council member who is working on the policy, was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>“Our great and influential city, which grew up around the automobile, is the perfect place to figure out how to move off the gas-powered car.”</p>

<p>Though there was no timeline provided as to when a draft ordinance or possible vote would be coming, officials said that Koretz is working to see the policy continue to advance by the end of 2022.</p>

<p>LA’s announcement came after a new report from SAFE Cities showed how gas stations pose numerous health, environmental, equity, and financial risks to communities.</p>

<p>Even small spills over time can significantly pollute soil and water and former gas stations make up a large portion of brownfield sites, the report states.</p>
