In a perfect example of turning the situation to one's favour, the Zomato agent resorted to a way that is not only extremely rare but also too unique to believe. The agent rode on horseback to ensure that the customer got the food package on time.&nbsp;

This came as many truckers had been holding protests to mark their opposition against the new legal provisions in hit-and-run cases.&nbsp;

The sight of the Zomato person was strange yet intriguing for many who were seen slowing down their vehicles and taking a look at the agent with his horse.&nbsp;

India's Minister of External Affairs (MEA), Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Saturday (January 28) launched 'Bharat Marg', the Marathi translation of his book 'The India Way' in Pune, a popular city in the Indian state of Maharashtra.&nbsp;During the launch, Jaishankar said that the global south and developing nations are "feeling the pain" and India must stand for them while most of the developed nations are looking only at their concerns.&nbsp;

He said, "Today, the developing world, the south is feeling the pain. The south is seeing food shortage, the south is seeing fuel shortage and sometimes they cannot afford things. So somebody should speak up for them."&nbsp;

Jaishankar said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided that India must take this responsibility as most of the developed countries are only looking at their concerns.&nbsp;

He said, "Our G20 must be G20 for the whole world. We must stand for the south. When I say 'we need to stand for the south' it is not just for the sake of saying it but do it through actions."&nbsp;

"We decided to meet with them. For two days, five-six ministers and the Prime Minister himself took a whole day to meet our counterparts and we consulted more than 120 countries," he added.&nbsp;

There are plenty of other fuel supplies on the way. He added that the government is having trouble coming up with $587 million to cover the cost of the fuel. According to Wijesekera, Sri Lanka owes seven fuel suppliers around $800 million.

Due to fuel shortages, schools were shuttered for a day last month across the country and had been closed for the previous two weeks in metropolitan areas. The last day of classes is Friday.

Because they are unable to deliver enough fuel to power producing plants, authorities have announced up to three-hour daily nationwide power outages starting on Monday. Massive power outages and acute shortages of necessities like cooking gas, medications, and food imports have been a drag on Sri Lanka's economy for months.

Wijesekera claimed that the lack of dollars is the primary issue and urged the 2 million Sri Lankans who are employed overseas to transmit their foreign exchange earnings through regular channels rather than illegal ones.

On Saturday, while apologising for the country's worsening fuel crisis, Kanchana Wijesekera, the South Asian nation's energy minister said that several expected shipments were facing&nbsp;unexpected delays. As per an AFP report,&nbsp;Sri Lanka is virtually running out of petrol and diesel.&nbsp;The minister said that oil cargoes which were due last week failed to turn up while those expected next week will also not reach the country thanks to some "banking and logistical reasons" reasons.&nbsp;He further added that the state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), is unable to predict when new oil supplies will arrive on the island.&nbsp;

In response to a lack of crude oil, the CPC also closed its sole refinery, he continued. 90,000 tonnes of Russian crude oil purchased on a two-month credit basis through Coral Energy in Dubai was used by the refinery to begin operations earlier this month.

According to officials, many stations across the island have stopped selling diesel —the main fuel for buses and commercial vehicles —as they were out of stock.

Petrol was on sale but in short supply, forcing motorists to abandon their cars in long queues, reports AFP.

Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama said that diesel is being siphoned off from buses that are in the garage for repairs and using that diesel to operate serviceable vehicles.

Owners of private buses —which account for two-thirds of the country's fleet —said they were already out of oil and that even skeleton services may not be possible after Friday.

"We are still using old stocks of diesel, but if we don't get supplies by this evening, we will not be able to operate," chairman of the private bus operators association Gemunu Wijeratne told AFP.
