Italy’s former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi was acquitted on Wednesday over allegations that he bribed witnesses in the notorious underage prostitution case, colloquially referred to as ‘Banga Banga’ parties.

It was alleged that Berlusconi bribed witnesses to lie in a previous trial in which he was charged with paying for sex in 2010 with then-17-year-old Moroccan nightclub dancer Karima el-Mahroug, who is also known by her stage name "Ruby the Heart Stealer."

Though initially found guilty, the former PM was acquitted in 2014 after an appeals court found no proof of the girl being a minor.

However, the judges suspected that the witnesses may have provided false testimonies, including Mahroug, after a clip of her bragging about sex with Berlusconi and describing orgiastic scenes at his parties came to the fore.

The 86-year-old had denied the allegations and said he is the victim of a years-long plot by magistrates to hound him from politics. He also insisted that these hedonistic parties were in fact elegant dinners.

The prosecutors had sought a six-year prison term for Berlusconi, whose Forza Italia party is a member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's governing coalition.

"I can only express our utmost satisfaction for this unequivocal acquittal," Berlusconi's lawyer Federico Cecconi told reporters after the verdict.

Apart from Berlusconi, the other 28 co-defendants, many of them young women accused of accepting bribes, were also all acquitted, including Mahroug.

"I am so happy ... It's a liberation from years that were tough to say the least. It overwhelmed me when I was 17 and it carried on until I was 30. It was a nightmare," El Mahroug told reporters.

In the new left-right administration formed by Social Democrat Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen following a general election last month, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, a former prime minister of Denmark, was chosen foreign minister on Thursday. After leaving the right-wing Liberal party to create his own center-right party, the Moderates, Rasmussen, who was prime minister from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2015 to 2019, took office.

Together with the Liberals, a fourth party, his Moderates are members of Frederiksen's new coalition administration.

The last effort, in 1978–1979, lasted only 14 months, making the alliance between the right-wing Liberals and the left-wing Social Democrats rare in Denmark.

In the end, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, the head of the liberal party, decided to form a government with Frederiksen "in Denmark's best interest" after running an anti-Frederiksen campaign in an effort to secure a right-wing majority.

Even though the left-wing bloc won the election in November with an overwhelming majority, Frederiksen decided to establish a left-right coalition.

She said that the conflict in Ukraine and the economic situation in the world today justified the action, but persuading the Liberals to join forces with her is also certain to cause a rift on the right wing.

Although it had been receptive to the idea, Frederiksen was unable to persuade the center-left Social Liberal party to join the administration. 11 Social Democrats, eight&nbsp;Liberals, and five Moderates make up the new government, which is composed of 15 males and eight&nbsp;women. Nicolai Wammen, a Social Democrat, will continue to be in charge of the finance ministry.

In 2017, Mukherjee decided to retire from politics due to "health complications relating to old age".

Addressing media here, AIIMS director Dr&nbspRandeep Guleria said the former prime minister will recover completely in the next few days.

"Atal Bihari Vajpayee has shown significant improvement in the last 48 hours. His kidney function is back to normal, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure are also normal they are being maintained without support. Hopefully, he will make full recovery in the next few days. Overall, his health is good," he said.

Vajpayee was admitted to the state-run hospital on June 11, following which he was detected with urinary tract infection, chest congestion, and low urine output. Dr Aarti Vij, an AIIMS official, had said that the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was on injectable antibiotics.

All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday informed that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition is stable.

"Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition is stable and a team of doctors under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS are conducting tests," AIIMS.

Earlier in the day, Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS for a routine-check-up, according to doctors.

The Director of AIIMS while confirming the same, said in a statement, "Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been admitted to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for routine check-up and investigations. He will be under the supervision of Dr&nbsp;Randeep Guleria."

The 93-year-old stalwart was the first ever person from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to have become the nation's prime minister.

Vajpayee served for two terms twice - briefly in 1996 and between1998 to 2004. Currently, he is the oldest living Prime Minister of India.

Vajpayee is also a well-renowned poet. His birthday, which falls on December 25, is celebrated as 'Good Governance Day' by the BJP.

In 2015, Vajpayee was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.
