The points deduction could be a significant blow for the club as they try to maintain their streak of avoiding relegation in the top flight. Everton sacked manager Rafa Benitez on Sunday following their 2-1 defeat at Norwich City which left the Merseyside club six points above the Premier League relegation zone in 15th place.

The player has, momentarily, been released on bail while the police conduct further investigation into the allegations.
