A tragic incident took place in the Indian state of Karnataka at Bengaluru's IT corridor when a 23-year-old woman named Soundharya and her nine-month-old daughter, Suviksha, were electrocuted while walking near the Hope Farm junction in Whitefield on Sunday (Nov 19).

The victims were the residents of AKG Colony under Kadugodi police limits. They were on their way to Soundharya's mother's house around 6 am when the incident took place.

The unfortunate event occurred when Soundharya stepped on&nbsp;a live wire lying on the road, leading to her and her daughter being electrocuted on the spot. Passersby alerted the Kadugodi police, who have initiated an investigation into the incident.

According to a police officer, several areas in the city have seen instances of fallen fibre-optic cables on footpaths. In this case, it is speculated that Soundharya might have mistaken the live electric wire for a&nbsp;fiber-optic cable.

India: Mother, 9-month-old daughter electrocuted by live wire on Bengaluru footpath

At least six people, which included two children, lost their lives and 15 others suffered injuries after an overhead high-voltage electric wire came in contact with a chariot during the Rath Yatra in Indian state Tripura's Unakoti district on Wednesday.&nbsp;

As per the police, the unfortunate incident took place amid the "Ulto Rath" procession, which marks the Hindu god Lord&nbsp;Jagannath and his two siblings' return journey after the annual Rath Yatra festival. The chariot was constructed using iron and the devotees had heavily decorated it.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, as the chariot came into contact with an overhead electric wire, it led to a surge of electricity, leading to the death of six people on the spot.&nbsp;

The people who suffered injuries in the accident were rushed to a nearby hospital. As per media reports, many of them remain in critical condition. The injured people will be transferred to Unakoti District Hospital.

“We have got information about 15 others who were injured in the incident. They were rushed to Unakoti District Hospital at Kailashahar,” said Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury, while speaking to Indian Express.&nbsp;

&nbsp;An investigation has been launched by the police into the incident and the officials are trying to understand how the electric wire came in contact with the chariot.&nbsp;

The deaths were condoled by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha who announced on social media that he is heading towards Kumarghat from Agartala, where he will take stock of the situation.

"In a tragic accident at Kumarghat, several pilgrims lost their lives and several others were injured due to electrocution while pulling the 'Ulta Rath'. I am deeply saddened by this incident. Deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Also, I wish the injured persons a speedy recovery. The state government stands by them in this difficult time," Saha wrote on Twitter.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, chief of Opposition TIPRA Motha Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma also extended his condolences.&nbsp;

“Hearing about a terrible incident in Kumarghat during the rath yatra, my prayers and condolences to all those who have been affected. I have immediately asked all my local MLAs and MDC to extend all help possible,” he tweeted.

The victim, named Akhila had allegedly touched an electric post while attempting to wade through the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/in-pics-heavy-rains-leave-bengaluru-waterlogged-boats-deployed-in-worst-hit-areas-513172/amp">knee-deep water</a> and thus came into contact with a live wire.

Akhila was an office administrator, and the police claim that she was on her way home when she passed away.

“It was around 9:30 pm... near Mayura Bakery and Sweets on Varthur Road near Brookefield where the incident took place. From the investigation so far, we have found that she was coming on a scooter from work. There was knee-deep water on the road and either her scooter had broken down or she decided to get off it,” said a senior police officer.

She gripped the electric pole for support as she tried to get across the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/trending/live-catfish-caught-on-flooded-road-sums-up-situation-in-rain-hit-bengaluru-511856">water</a>, the officer continued, and an exposed wire on the pole caused her to be electrocuted.

The road was flooded with knee-deep water not far from her house.

She was transported to a private hospital by onlookers, where she was pronounced dead when she arrived.

Akhila's parents and other people claimed that the BBMP and other civic officials were at fault for her death.

They haven't yet, nevertheless, complained.

The event is still under investigation by the Whitefield police. However, according to Whitefield Police, an FIR will be lodged in connection with the case.&nbsp;

The deceased, including two minors, were killed after being electrocuted. Flight operations were also affected in the city, with domestic, international and cargo carriers being delayed up to 90 minutes.

Road and rail commutation was also hit as traffic snarls were caused due to waterlogging in some parts of the city.

The local trains, known as the lifeline of Mumbai, were also slowed down or briefly halted on some routes due to the incessant rainfall combined with the thunder strikes.

The Jet Airways announced last evening that all its flights travelling to and from from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will be delayed by up to 45 minutes till at least 11:30 pm.

A Mumbai-bound SriLankan Airlines flight was diverted to Ahmedabad, whereas, a couple of GoAir and Qatar Airways flight were also diverted to Gujarat.

Apart from Mumbai, heavy rainfall was experienced in neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Pune. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) state unit, the showers were not those of monsoon.

"This is pre-monsoon rainfall. The monsoon winds are yet to hit Maharashtra. The weather system is set in Kerala and the currents are expected to move to Goa and Maharashtra in the next 5-6 days," said a spokesperson of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre.
