In her book, the South Dakota governor admitted to killing her dog named Cricket, a “wirehair pointer, about 14 months old”. The female dog, Noem said, had an “aggressive personality”.&nbsp;

According to the Guardian, the book included the story to show her willingness to do anything “difficult, messy and ugly” if it has to be done.&nbsp;

In the memoir, Noem said she had taken Cricket on a hunting trip with older dogs hoping to calm down the wild puppy. However, the 14-month-old dog chased the pheasants while “having the time of her life”.

On their way back, Cricket got out of Noem’s truck while she had stopped to meet a family and&nbsp;killed some of their chickens and bit the governor.&nbsp;

Noem repeatedly apologised to the family and wrote them a check while Cricket, according to her, was “the picture of pure joy”.&nbsp;

“I hated that dog,” she wrote and described Cricket as an “untrainable,” “dangerous,” and “less than worthless…as a hunting dog”.

After she had decided to put the dog down, Noem got her gun and led Cricket to a gravel pit. However, her tale of killing animals did not end there. In her book, she also wrote about killing a male goat, which her family owned, and described it as “nasty and mean”.&nbsp;

She also said that the goat smelled “disgusting, musky, rancid” and chased Noem’s children and knocked them down.

The South Dakota governor killed the nameless goat like she killed her dog after leading it to a gravel pit. However, in this case, the goat survived the first shot forcing Noem to go back to her truck to retrieve another shell.&nbsp;

It was around that time that she reportedly noticed that a nearby construction crew had watched her kill both animals.&nbsp;

“Kennedy looked around confused,” the governor wrote, referring to her daughter, who she asked, “Hey, where’s Cricket?”

<h2>Noem defends herself</h2>

After the report, the backlash against the governor was swift and amid the growing criticism, Noem took to X and said, “We love animals, but tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm.”

She added, “If you want more real, honest, and politically INcorrect stories that’ll have the media gasping, preorder ‘No Going Back’”.&nbsp;

Noem’s post on X has over 14,000 comments, with many calling on her to resign and others calling her a “monster” or questioning why she didn’t just re-home Cricket.&nbsp;

As the race to the White House continues to heat up, presumptive presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden both hold a mostly negative view among voters, shows a new poll.&nbsp;

The poll conducted by SSRS for CNN found that while 58 per cent of voters have an unfavourable view of Biden, 55 per cent felt negatively about Trump. However, 53 per cent also said they were dissatisfied with the candidates they had to choose from in this year's presidential contest.

The presumptive candidates for the Republican and the Democratic Party are both vying for their second term in the White House.&nbsp;

Public opinion of their first terms found that 55 per cent feel that Trump's first stint as President was a success, while 44 per cent feel it was a failure.&nbsp;When asked what they thought about Biden's presidency so far, only 39 per cent said it was a success and a whopping 61 per cent said it was a failure. This in large part was due to the disapproval of his handling of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza — 71 per cent to just 28 per cent approval.

There was also some overlap in opinions; 14 per cent of Americans said both were a failure, and just eight per cent called both a success.

On the other hand, foreign policy seems to be less of a concern to voters, with only 33 per cent considering it important. Climate change, the war between Israel and Hamas, and student loans follow suit, with 27 per cent, 26 per cent, and 24 per cent of voters respectively considering them as significant issues.

Former US president Donald Trump’s attorneys on Friday (Apr 26) tried discrediting a former tabloid publisher over his claims that his news outlet tried to suppress facts that could&nbsp;have a negative effect on&nbsp;Trump’s presidential campaign of 2016.

On Friday, former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker was grilled by Trump’s defence. Pecker earlier testified that he worked with Trump’s campaign to suppress allegations of adultery. Trump lawyer Emil Bove tried highlighting discrepancies in his testimony.

Bove questioned whether Trump had actually thanked Pecker for handling negative stories as he claimed in his testimony. The defence raised questions as his statement conflicted with a report by FBI agents who previously interviewed Pecker, which said Trump had not expressed gratitude. But Pecker in his defence claimed that the FBI report itself could be wrong.

"I know what I testified to, and I know what I remember," Pecker told the court, where 12 jurors and six alternates had assembled to hear Trump’s hush money trial. The case revolves around Trump allegedly falsifying business records and making payments to a porn star shortly before the elections to hide his illicit sexual relationship.

Pecker has testified that his tabloid paid to "catch and kill" two of those stories.

Trump denies these charges and has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by New York prosecutors.

Pecker argued that it was usual for major celebrities to get in touch with Enquirer to get good publicity and kill negative stories about them. He also claimed to have served other celebrities in the past, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tiger Woods.

Pecker said how his paper first helped Trump back in 1998 as it gave him a heads up about a negative story linked to Marla Maples, his wife at the time.

This is the first time that Biden signalled that he is willing to debate Trump ahead of the upcoming elections as well as the clearest yet on the prospect of a presidential debate.&nbsp;

“I am, somewhere. I don’t know when,” said the incumbent president during an hour-long interview with broadcaster Howard Stern. Biden added, “I’m happy to debate him.”

Similarly, when asked about the debate during a trip to Nevada in February, Biden said “If I were him, I’d want him to debate me, too. He’s got nothing else to do.”

In response to Biden’s interview, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social and wrote, “Crooked Joe Biden just announced that he’s willing to debate! Everyone knows he doesn’t really mean it, but in case he does, I say ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE…”

It is worth noting that the former president has refused to debate his rivals before winning the Republican primary race last month. However, given his latest post it seems like he is eager for a one-on-one match with his successor.&nbsp;

Biden and Trump had last faced each other in two televised presidential election debates in 2020.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, a dozen leading American news organisations urged candidates to publicly commit to debating each other. The statement suggests that debates for the current race be sponsored by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

Our largest retailer is Walmart ... This would be very bad for the magazine, very bad for American Media and I don't want any affiliation."
