United States President Joe Biden in his first public address from the White House after Republican&nbsp;Donald&nbsp;Trump's presidential&nbsp;election win on Thursday (Nov 7) said that he has instructed the officials in his administration&nbsp;to ensure there are no hiccups in the transfer of power.

“Yesterday, I spoke with President-elect Trump to congratulate him on his victory, and I assured him that I direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve,” Biden said.

"You cannot love your country only when you win," he added.

“Something to hope we can do, no matter who you voted for, is see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans. Bring down the temperature.&nbsp;

“I also hope we can lay to rest the question about the integrity of the American electoral system. It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent, and it can be trusted, win or lose,” said the US president.&nbsp;

Biden also expressed gratitude to all the election workers and said, “I also hope we can restore the respect for all our election workers who busted their necks and took risks.”

“At the outset, we should thank them. Thank them for staffing voting sites, counting the votes, protecting the very integrity of the election. Many of them are volunteers who do it simply out of love for their country. And, as they did, as they did their duty as citizens, I will do my duty as president. I will fulfill my oath, and I will honor the constitution. On January 20, we’ll have a peaceful transfer of power here in America,” he added.

“I know it’s a difficult time. You’re hurting. I hear you and I see you, but don’t forget, don’t forget all that we accomplished. It’s been a historic presidency, not because I’m president, because what we’ve done, what you’ve done,” Biden said addressing fellow Democrats who are down after the defeat.

Concluding his address, Biden said, “Together, we’ve changed America for the better. Now, we have 74 days to finish the term, our term. Let’s make every day count. That’s the responsibility we have to the American people”.&nbsp;

He wrapped up his speech by relaying a message of hope and urged people to never give up: “Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable. We all get knocked down, but the measure of our character, as my dad would say, is how quickly we get back up. Remember, a defeat does not mean we are defeated. We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up. That’s the story of America for over 240 years and counting. It’s a story for all of us, not just some of us. The American experiment endures. We’re going to be okay, but we need to stay engaged.”

"A lot of her policies did not connect. She kept saying stuff about the middle class. But Trump, for me at least, was a lot better suited for the middle class than she was. She tried to connect pretty well, but Trump did a whole lot better," said 19-year-old mechanic Ben Thurkettle, who supports Trump.

For David Gates, 44, a tree care worker and registered independent, it all came down to the economy.

"The fact is, Donald Trump, when he left office the last time, left us in a better economy," he said.

Trump was announced as the winner of the Michigan presidential race on Wednesday, taking back the battleground state and its 15 electoral votes, which swung to President Joe Biden in 2020.

In an ad financed by a progressive Christian group, and narrated by Oscar winner Julia Roberts, a woman is shown voting for Harris -- and hiding it from her Trump-leaning spouse.

"In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want, and no one will ever know," Roberts says.

"Did you make the right choice?" the husband asks his wife, who responds: "Sure did, honey," exchanging a smile and a wink with another woman voter.

"That was an appealing idea, but now we know it's pretty much just wishful thinking," said Alex Keena, a professor of political science at Virginia Commonwealth University.

“Why be scared by Trump now? It is going to be rough, but at least he will pump some energy into the whole thing,” said one diplomat.

NATO's spending on defence has significantly increased, with 23 of its 32 members now meeting the two per cent GDP spending target, compared to just three a decade ago.

Some speculate Trump's unpredictable style could actually keep Putin in check, as excessive demands from Russia may prompt a strong counter-reaction. “The Russians always make exaggerated demands,” one diplomat commented, adding that “If they annoy Trump too much, they will get something in return they weren't counting for.”

Meanwhile, NATO's former Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on X remarked “During his first term, our working relationship focused on bolstering transatlantic security and adapting NATO for the future. In a world of growing instability, strong US leadership remains essential”.

Lichtman had earlier predicted that Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris would win the presidential elections, however, Trump won the White House and made a political comeback.

Lichtman had been able to correctly predict the results of nine out of 10 presidential elections since 1984. A stumped Nostradamus was seen repeatedly saying “I don’t get it” on the live stream as Trump's landslide victory started becoming visible on the election map.

“This is the first moment of the night where I’ve lost hope a little bit,” said Sam Lichtman, when Trump won Pennsylvania.

The famous “Nostradamus” of the US presidential elections invested his money in Harris this year, even though the polling data hinted at the chances of Trump's presidency.

The professor created the “Keys to the White House” metric, which has 13 categories that assess the prospects of two major-party candidates.&nbsp;

As per Lichtman, this year Harris had the edge in eight metrics in comparison to Trump who had three.

When the live stream came close to its end, Lichtman and his son appeared very frustrated as Trump led in all seven swing states and the professor said there was “nothing positive” for Harris.&nbsp;

“Oh, the democracy’s gone,” said a dejected Lichtman. “Once democracy’s gone, it’s almost impossible to recover. The way to recover is by the dictators losing wars," he added.

Sam Lichtman, however, said that he is hoping Trump will serve his presidential term and that “we never have to deal with him again.”

“I’ve said it a hundred times,” replied Allan.

“Democracy is precious, but like all precious things, it can be destroyed. And typically destroyed from within. And throughout the 21st century, democracy has been in decline everywhere around the world, and America has now fallen in step. But never give up hope. It’s unfathomable,” said Lichtman at the end of the stream.
