Video shows devotees drinking AC water, believing it to be 'Charan Amrit' at Banke Bihari Temple

Amid the controversy over the alleged use of beef fat in the laddoos in Tirupati temple, the sale of the revered prasad continued unaffected at the Sri Venkateshwara Temple, where more than 60,000 pilgrims have still been flocking daily, reported NDTV.

As per the report, the temple authorities managed to sell more than 1.4&nbsp;million laddoos&nbsp;in just four days.&nbsp;

Speaking to NDTV, a devotee Venkateshwar Rao said, "Our faith is too strong to be shaken." The devotees also said that the controversy over Tirupati laddoos is a "thing of the past now".

It was reported that on September 19, 0.35 million laddoos were sold; on September 20 0.317 million laddoos; on September 21 0.367 million laddoos and on September 22 0.36 million laddoos.&nbsp;

According to the report, the data reflected that the purchase of laddoos did not witness any decline because of the controversy, as usually 0.35 million laddoos were sold on a daily basis.&nbsp;

The temple makes more than 0.3 million laddoos every day, which are subsequently bought by the devotees&nbsp;as prasad and gifts for friends and family.

The temple uses Bengal gram, cow ghee, sugar, cashews, raisins, and almonds to make the revered laddoo. On a daily basis, they use around 15,000 kg of cow ghee in their preparation.&nbsp;

<h2>Tirupati laddoo controversy&nbsp;</h2>

The controversy over the Tirupati laddoo erupted after it was alleged by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that animal fat was mixed with the ghee during the tenure of the YSRCP government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. After this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up by the state government to investigate the matter.

Reacting to allegations, former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the ruling TDP has been "politicising religious matters".

A sea of devotees throngs Ram Mandir following grand consecration on Monday

Amid heightened security, Amarnath Yatra started in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday (July 1). Over 3400 registered pilgrims took the journey on the very first day of the start of the Amarnath Yatra. Before sunrise, the pilgrims who had reached the base camps at Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal in Sonamarg started the journey towards the Holy cave. 
 
The Amarnath Yatra will be on for 62 days this year with over 60 thousand security forces brought in to secure the pilgrims and the route to the Holy Cave. A three-tier security system has been put in place to make sure the Yatra is carried out peacefully. The journey to the Holy Cave located at an altitude of 3,880 metres in the Himalayan hills of South Kashmir will be covered by pilgrims from two routes.

The terror organisation TRF, an offshoot of Lashkar, had issued a threat for the Amarnath Yatra. And most of the security arrangements have been given to the paramilitary forces like CRPF and also to Jammu and Kashmir Police. The deployment of forces has been done from the Jammu region and through the National Highway to Kashmir. 
 
The authorities have made all the arrangements with regard to any natural disaster due to erratic weather etc. Hundreds of members from the Disaster Management, SDRF, and NDRF teams have been deployed on both routes of the Yatra. The government has also made sure to use the latest technology and equipment for the safety of the pilgrims.

All the registered Yatris taking the pilgrimage have been provided with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). This is to make sure that all the pilgrims are tagged and while they take the journey, the authorities would know their exact locations. The CCTV cameras are being used across the routes of the Yatra. 
 
Hundreds of langar's (free food stalls) have been placed at the base camps and all through the routes of the Yatra. The locals have also set up shops for the pilgrims. The government has also established ATMs and many other facilities for the pilgrims. 
 
The government has also made a makeshift 100-bed&nbsp;hospital at both the base camps in Chandanwari and Nunwan for providing better healthcare facilities to the pilgrims undertaking Amarnath Yatra.&nbsp;

The deployment of forces has been done from the Jammu region and through the National Highway to Kashmir. The authorities have made all the arrangements with regard to any natural disaster due to erratic weather etc. Hundreds of members from the Disaster Management, SDRF, and NDRF teams have been deployed on both routes of the Yatra. The government has also made sure to use the latest technology and equipment for the safety of the pilgrims. This is to make sure that all the pilgrims are tagged and while they take the journey, the authorities would know their exact locations. The locals have also set up shops for the pilgrims. The government has also established ATMs and many other facilities for the pilgrims. The government has also made a makeshift 100-bed hospital at both the base camps in Chandanwari and Nunwan for providing better healthcare facilities to the pilgrims undertaking Amarnath Yatra. Despite the well-documented occasions of Philip uttering racially and culturally insensitive remarks, Huffman noted they maintained a long-standing relationship.&nbsp;

"In this case, he has been incredibly respectful, very sympathetic, he’s communicated with them, he's sent them gifts, they have sent him gifts, really since the 1970s," he said.&nbsp;

The veneration of Philip stemmed from a local legend of the pale-skinned son of a local mountain god, who ventured across the seas to look for a rich and powerful woman to marry.&nbsp;

Anthropologists believe Philip, who fitted the bill by marrying the Queen, became linked to the legend in the 1960s when Vanuatu was an Anglo-French colony known as the New Hebrides. &nbsp;

Villagers at the time were likely to have seen portraits of Philip and Elizabeth at government offices and police stations run by colonial officials before he visited the island with the Queen in 1974.&nbsp;

With his passing, their honour of Prince Philip is unlikely to cease although it may change form, Huffman said. However, it is too early to know what the group will make of his death, since there is limited access to electricity and mobile phones on the island.&nbsp;

Since their belief system is not tied to the monarchy, how they may take to Prince Charles, who two members of the group met in the capital of Port-Vila several years ago, is up to them, he said. &nbsp;

At the time, Prince Charles drank Kava, a highly intoxicating local beverage, with one, while the other gave him a gift for his father, Huffman said.&nbsp;

With Sabarimala Temple here opening for the two-month-long festival season, Devaswom Board Minister Kadakampally Surendran on Sunday said that devotees were arriving at the shrine without any fear.

"I came here last night and spent some time at Sannidhanam. What I witnessed was that devotees are coming here without any kind of fear" Surendran said while talking to mediapersons earlier today.

While speaking to the reporters earlier today, Surendran said, "The mandalam season has begun as a season without any fear and apprehension. After the Supreme Court's verdict, the Chief Minister has explained the government's stand as well so there is no need of repeating it," he added.

On Saturday, a sea of devotees thronged the temple, which opened for the annual Mandala-Makaravilaku festival. However, At least 10 women, aged between 10 to 50 years, were sent back from Pamba base camp which is nearly 6 km downhill from the temple.

When asked about the women who were sent back the Minister said, "I do not know about this incident."

The opening of the shrine comes days after a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court referred a clutch of petitions seeking review of its order which paved the way for the entry of women into Sabarimala temple in Kerala to a larger seven-judge bench by a majority 3:2 ruling.

The top court also observed that the right to worship by an individual cannot outweigh the rights of a religious group.

The Supreme Court had lifted a traditional ban on entry of women of menstrual age (10-50 years) on September 28 last year.

Despite the apex court's ruling, a string of protests took place at the Sabarimala temple and its surrounding areas in the state, when several women attempted to visit the shrine but were stopped by Lord Ayyappa devotees.

"The main reason to take the (holy) dip early was that I will get ample amount of time to reach home. The crowd was relatively less and hence there were no problems," he said.

Deepak Kumar, who runs a cafe and is a resident of Fatehpur district, said, "I took the dip at around 1.00 am. I now have time to explore the city. Apart from this, it also helps me in returning home in time."

The devotees appeared excited and the cold breeze sweeping the Sangam area could not deter their spirit. Chants of 'Har Har Gangey' and 'Jai Ganga Maiyya' filled the air around the venue. Visitors were also seen clicking selfies at various locations in the Mela area.

As the number of visitors began increasing, police officials issued instructions to them to take a specific exit route.

"Close to 50 lakh devotees had already taken dip before sunrise," Kumbh Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand told PTI.

Siddh Pratap Singh Baghel, who came from Katni in Madhya Pradesh along with his friends Pramod Chaurasia and Brijesh Kumar Pandey, said, "Initially when we went to take a dip, the rush was relatively less. However, as soon as we came out, the number of devotees started increasing."

On their way back home, the three carried the holy Ganga water with them.

Residents of Bhadohi, Dharmendra Vishwakarma and his wife Malti Devi took the holy dip at around 12.30 am and were seen leaving the Mela venue before 2.00 am.

Dharmendra Vishwakarma said, "People had started taking a dip at around 12.30 am, and we were able to reach there in time. As we were leaving the ghat, we noticed the number of devotees reaching there increasing."

Malti Devi said she wanted to reach home early and hence wanted to take an early dip.

Shahi snaan at Sangam the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati is a central highlight of the Kumbh Mela.

The two previous shahi snaans were on Makar Sankranti on January 15 and Mauni Amawasya on February 4. And the third fell on Basant Panchami, which heralds the arrival of spring and is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.

However, it failed to dampen the mood of devotees, who turned up in large numbers for the Paush Purnima bath.

As the day progressed, the number of devotees coming to take the holy dip increased.

The Purnima or full moon day will also mark the beginning of Kalpwas (the period of austerity) at Kumbh Mela.

Elaborating on the significance of Paush Purnima, Swami Adhokshanand said, Paush Purnima is a significant day for Hindus which falls on the full moon day of Paush in the Hindu calendar. On this day, devotees from different parts of the country assemble at Sangam to take a holy dip. Even Lord Krishna had said that in the Hindu calendar, he represents the month of Paush, he said.

Satish Shukla, who had come from Kanpur for the holy dip, said, "Various facilities at the mela venue have improved significantly. River Ganga looks a lot cleaner now as compared to earlier times."

DS Nikam, who had come from Aurangabad with his family for the holy dip, praised the cleanliness at the mela area.

I have been camping here since January 15. Today's bathing experience was really nice and the arrangements were good," he said.

Yesterday, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had greeted people on the eve of Paush Purnima.

In a statement issued in Lucknow, Adityanath said, Paush Purnima, which is symbolized by 'Jap', 'Tap' and 'Daan', is one of the most ancient parv (festivals) of India.?

Unlike the Shahi Snaans, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amawasya and Basant Panchami, Paush Purnima is a 'Parv Snaan' (a bathing ritual), and hence the pomp of Akharas leading the bathing procession in the morning was missing, Chairman of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad Mahant Narendra Giri said.&nbsp;

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti visited the Sangam on Monday.

The members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its mentor the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had gathered in front of Cliff House-- Vijayan's official residence at Nanthancode in Thiruvananthapuram.

Simultaneous protests were also held at various places across the state in Aranmula, Kochi, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ranni, Thodupuzha, Kaladi, Malappuram and Idukki among others.

To further intensify their stir against "police high handedness", a daylong state-wide agitation will be held on Monday by Yuvamorcha, the youth wing of the BJP, its chief said.

"We have organised state-wide protest against this emergency like situation in the state," Yuvamorcha state president Prakash Babu said.

The protesters were taken into preventive custody Sunday night at the Sabarimala Temple after fresh protests broke out at Nadapanthal area in Sannidhanam where hundreds of devotees agitated against the police restrictions.

Even though there were unconfirmed reports that the detained protesters were taken to Maniyar police camp in Pathanamthitta district, officials at Pamba Police Station, which is around 3.5 km downhill, denied any knowledge.

On the second day of the two-month-long pilgrimage season, the devotees had gathered at the covered pathway to the temple when they were asked to leave Sannidhanam.

Due to the early incidents of violence at the hill-top shrine, the police had imposed strict restrictions for devotees at Sannidhanam, including not allowing them to stay back at night.

Superintendent of Police (special officer) Pratheesh Kumar said people were detained for violating Section 144 that prohibits assembly of more than four people at a spot.

"Section 144 had been declared in the area. We had asked them to disperse after the Harivarasanam but most of them refused," the SP said, adding that the police was not against the devotees who wished to offer prayers.

"Those who have to offer 'neyyabhishekam' (anointing deity with ghee) can stay back. They can recite prayers also. We are not against it. The police will assist those who want to offer prayers," he said.

Police sources claimed they had information that the protesters might create trouble at Sannidhanam and therefore, precautions were taken accordingly.

Rajesh, one of the protesters, said, "We are devotees and we started reciting prayers but the police did not allow us, saying Section 144 (prohibitory orders) has been imposed."

He said he did not mind getting arrested for reciting prayers at Sannidhanam.

The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking more time to implement its verdict allowing women of all age groups to enter Kerala's Sabarimala temple.

The Board, which manages the hill shrine, has cited lack of basic amenities among other things as the reason for seeking more time from the top court.

The announcement on the TDB's move came amid mounting tension against the backdrop of the stand-off over entry of women in the 10-50 age group, traditionally barred at the shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, a celibate.

Pilgrims had said there was lack of adequate toilet facilities, causing immense difficulties especially to women, and rest rooms after the floods in August that had destroyed the infrastructure.

The top court had earlier refused to stay its verdict while agreeing to hear in open court a batch of petitions seeking review of its September 28 verdict by which it had lifted the ban on entry of women of menstruating age into the Sabarimala temple.

On September 28, a five-judge Constitution bench, headed by the then Chief Justice Dipak Misra, in 4:1 verdict had paved the way for entry of women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple, saying the ban amounted to gender discrimination.&nbsp;
