While doctors have been protesting for their safety for over a month in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata, the capital city&nbsp;New Delhi witnessed a gruesome murder where a 55-year-old doctor was shot dead by two teenagers in the early hours of Thursday (Oct 3).&nbsp;

According to the hospital staff, the two accused, aged between 16 and 17, arrived at the&nbsp;Nima Hospital, in Delhi's Jaitpur area, at around 1.30 am local time, seeking treatment.

One of them requested a change of dressing for his injured toe, having been treated a night earlier. However, after the dressing was done, the duo said they wanted a prescription and went to the cabin of Dr Javed Akhtar, a practitioner of Unani Medicine.

After reaching the cabin, they shot Dr Akhtar in the head, leaving him to die. Nursing staff Gajala Parveen and Md Kamil arrived on the scene minutes later and saw the doctor bleeding from his head.&nbsp;

"At around 1 am, two teenage boys came to the hospital for treatment. After the treatment, they entered the doctor's cabin and shot him in the head. Dr Javed was on night duty from 8 pm. He worked in the hospital for two years," one of the staffers said.&nbsp;

Polic is of the view that it was a case of targeted killing and the&nbsp;assailants' visit the previous night could have been for a recce.

''All information related to hospitals and beds, you can call on our helpline 1031. They will send you an SMS with the status of bed availability in Delhi hospitals,'' he noted.

''We are four steps ahead of coronavirus. Cases of coronavirus are increasing in Delhi but we have made all the arrangements for beds, ICUs and ventilators,'' he said.

Kejriwal said that number of cases in Delhi are increasing, but there's no need to worry about medical care for COVID-19 patients as the government has done sufficient arrangements.&nbsp;

In another case of medical negligence, a man has held responsible&nbsp;BL Kapur Super Speciality Hospital in Karol Bagh, New Delhi for the death of his daughter.&nbsp;

The man alleges that his daughter passed away at the hospital due to alleged medical negligence.

He said his daughter fell sick and experienced breathing&nbsp;problems and severe headache after undergoing surgery in the hospital. While the doctors consistently said that all that was normal, reports said.&nbsp;

The girl had undergone&nbsp;a transplant surgery in the hospital.&nbsp;

The doctors later shifted the girl to ICU claiming that her symptoms were a&nbsp;result of infection.&nbsp;The father added that even after shifting her to the ICU, the doctors assured him that everything was normal.

The father said &quot;what was more shocking was when the doctors said now she will have to be shifted to a ventilator because of breathing issues. They said that this is a normal process so don&#39;t worry,&quot; media reports quoted him as saying.

The father has stated that the hospital was at&nbsp;fault.

The girl died on November 25th.

Another girl dies in Delhi due to 'medical negligence'

At least 650 fresh cases of dengue have been recorded in the third week of October in the national capital, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease this season to 5,870, according to a municipal report released on Monday.

The number of dengue cases reported this month till October 21 stands at 1,077.

Five deaths in total have been reported so far, including two at the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash (LNJP) Hospital in central Delhi.

The mosquito-borne tropical disease had claimed its first victim in the city this year when a 12-year-old boy died of dengue shock syndrome at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) on August 1.

26-year-old Manipuri woman Rhoda Daimai, who was living in south Delhi&#39;s Sarita Vihar, had died at the Holy Family Hospital in August, while 49-year-old Meena Devi, hailing from Bihar, died of dengue shock syndrome on September 2 at the SGRH, according to civic authorities.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates data for the entire city, however, has not acknowledged the fatalities at the LNJP Hospital, and kept the official toll at three.

The number of malaria and chikungunya cases recorded in the city till the third week of October stood at 1,073 and 731 respectively, the report said.

Of the total 5,870 dengue cases, 2,884 were residents of Delhi, while the rest were from other states.
