<p>"I think Brydon Carse is probably the number one priority for England right now," he said. "With what he's shown in Test cricket, he's born for that sort of stuff. There's 11 Tests over the summer and winter, and I think he's going to be number one on England's list to make sure that he's ready to go for that.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p>The election staff of an entire county resigned from their positions in Virginia, United States in the wake of increasing voter fraud claims.</p>

<p>Registrar Lindsey Taylor, who was hired in 2019, loved conducting elections and had hoped to continue the job for three decades, just like the previous registrar.</p>

<p>Taylor loved the election staff as well as the volunteer poll workers and was proud of the detail-oriented work they did. Dozen of new laws were implemented by her in 2020 and elections were conducted by her through the pandemic, impressing the citizens living in the rural, tight-knit community of Buckingham County.</p>

<p>However, things took an ugly turn after the voter fraud claims started. In January, the Buckingham County Electoral Board's control was assumed by the GOP. Buckingham County was overseeing her office and baseless voter fraud claims started being advanced by local Republicans that left her baffled.</p>

<p>It was made clear by the electoral board that it wanted Taylor out&nbsp;of the job.</p>

<p>“There were people saying that they had heard all these rumours — that the attorney general was going to indict me,” said Taylor. “Mentally, I just — I couldn’t take it anymore,” she added.</p>

<p>Three weeks ago, Taylor as well as two part-time staffers resigned from their jobs. After their resignations, a deputy registrar also quit the job in February, citing a similar conflict.</p>

<p>The four resignations left residents without an employee at the registrar’s office. Temporarily, the people have no way to register their vote or certify the paperwork of the candidate.</p>

<p>“It’s just sad that the big lie has come to Buckingham. And before it was never here,” stated Margaret Thomas, who had worked as Buckingham County's general registrar for more than 28 years before retirement.</p>

<p>In what is being described as an unprecedented ruling, a county judge in US’ Illinois state has prohibited a mother from visiting her 11-year-old son, who lives with her estranged husband, because she refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19.</p>

<p>Cook County judge James Shapiro said Rebecca Firlit, 39, could not see the boy again until she had taken the jab.</p>

<p>“I’ve had adverse reactions to vaccines in the past and was advised not to get vaccinated by my doctor. It poses a risk,” Firlit told ta local media about the virtual court hearing, which took place earlier this month.</p>

<p>“I was confused because it was just supposed to be about expenses and child support. One of the first things he asked me when I got on the Zoom call was whether or not I was vaccinated, which threw me off because I asked him what it had to do with the hearing.”</p>

<p>“He said: I am the judge, and I make the decisions for your case.”</p>

<p>Firlit’s lawyer Annette Fernholz said she and her ex-husband have been divorced for seven years and that her former husband did not seek a ruling on the vaccination issue.</p>

US judge revokes mother’s custody of son after she refused to take Covid vaccine

<p>A county in South Carolina agreed Tuesday to pay $10 million to the family of a Black man who died in January after sheriff’s deputies used pepper spray and Tasers on him in a jail cell as he told them, “I can’t breathe,” officials said.</p>

<p>In a unanimous vote, the Charleston County Council approved the settlement in the death of Jamal Sutherland, 31, who had been taken from a mental health facility to the county jail at the time.</p>

<p>His death on Jan. 5 has drawn protests and comparisons to the killing of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.</p>

<p>The settlement came as many Americans paused Tuesday to remember Floyd one year after his death, which became a catalyst for a nationwide reckoning on police brutality and systemic racism.</p>

<p>It followed the firing May 17 of the two deputies involved in Sutherland’s death, an encounter that was shown in graphic video footage that was released this month by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. One of the deputies placed a knee on Sutherland’s back.</p>

<p>Before the settlement was approved, the county and the Sutherland family had been engaged in mediation talks in an effort to avoid formal litigation, the television station WCSC reported. The council’s finance committee earlier recommended that the full council approve a $10 million settlement, according to local news media outlets.</p>

<p>Councilman Teddie E. Pryor Sr. said during the meeting that he had promised the Sutherland family that he would look into what reforms to public safety could be enacted.</p>

<p>“This should never happen to anyone ever again,” Pryor said. “Ever.”</p>

<p>A lawyer for Sutherland’s family did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday night.</p>

<p>The payout adds to a list of eight-figure settlements in several high-profile killings of Black people involving law enforcement officers. In March, Floyd’s family reached a $27 million settlement with the City of Minneapolis. This month, officials in Columbus, Ohio, agreed to pay $10 million to the family of Andre Hill, a Black man who was fatally shot by a police officer in a garage in December.</p>

<p>C. Brantley Moody, a member of the Charleston County Council, said during the group’s meeting Tuesday that he had grappled with whether to support the settlement. He acknowledged that “globally, this race to the courthouse” troubled him.</p>

<p>“What was done was a terrible injustice,” Moody said. “But how do you settle it? I don’t know what the answer is.”</p>

<p>The local prosecutor is expected to decide in June whether the deputies, Sgt. Lindsay Fickett and Detention Deputy Brian Houle, will face criminal charges in Sutherland’s death. The prosecutor, Scarlett A. Wilson, the 9th Circuit solicitor, said this month that she was reviewing the results of an investigation into the deputies’ actions conducted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.</p>

<p>Fickett and Houle had been placed on administrative leave before their firing was announced May 17 on Twitter by Kristin Graziano, the Charleston County sheriff.</p>

<p>The deputies had been trying to remove Sutherland from a cell at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, the county jail, to take him to court for a bond hearing Jan. 5 when the deadly encounter took place.</p>

<p>In the video footage released by the sheriff, the deputies were seen using pepper spray in Sutherland’s cell two times before firing Tasers at him. Sutherland had been hit with the Taser six to eight times, Houle later said in the video.</p>

<p>The video showed Sutherland writhing on the ground before he eventually lost consciousness. Soon after, he was declared dead, with a pathologist ruling that the manner of his death was “undetermined.” The pathologist stated that Sutherland had died “as a result of excited state with pharmacotherapeutic effect during subdual process.”</p>

<p>Officials would not discuss the autopsy results further and said that the post-mortem examination report would not be released because it was not a public document.</p>

<p>Sutherland was taken to the jail from a mental health facility, Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health, where he had been arrested Jan. 4 after a fight broke out. Workers at the mental health center told responding officers that Sutherland had assaulted a staff member. He and another patient were charged with third-degree assault and battery, according to The Post and Courier of Charleston.</p>

<p>On the day of his arrest, a video showed Sutherland in distress. He screamed “Let go of me” at officers and spoke of conspiracies, including references to the Illuminati, groups — real and fictitious — dating back centuries and said to have special knowledge.</p>

<p>Parents of a Texas high school student who was reported missing in late January had abused their daughter after she refused an arranged marriage, leading her to run away from home until she was found in mid-March, police said.</p>

<p>Maarib Al Hishmawi, 16, was reported missing on January 30 after she was last seen leaving Taft High School in Bexar County. She was found in mid-March when she was taken in by an organization that cared for her after she ran away.</p>

<p>Police revealed her parents, Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi, 34, and Hamdiyah Saha Al Hishmawi, 33, allegedly beat her with a broomstick and poured hot cooking oil on her when she refused to marry a man in another city.&nbsp</p>

<p>Apparently, the parents agreed to the arranged marriage in exchange for $20,000.</p>

<p>Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said on Friday: 'This young lady, at various times over that time period was subjected to some pretty bad abuse because she didn't want to be married to this person.'</p>

<p>'Several times it was reported to us that this young lady was abused with hot cooking oil being thrown on her body. She was beaten with broomsticks,' Salazar added.&nbsp</p>
