The report released by PARAKH was titled "Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards" and suggested that aggregate performance metrics of students between Classes 9 to 11 should be incorporated.&nbsp;

In the evaluation, Class 9 marks will have a 15 per cent presentation, Class 10 marks will have 20 per cent, Class 11 marks will have 25 per cent and Class 12 will have a 40 per cent presentation.&nbsp;

A particular marking scheme will be followed from Class 9 to Class 12.&nbsp;

In Class 9 results, formative assessment will have 70 per cent weightage and summative assessments will have 30 per cent weightage.&nbsp;

In Class 10, equal weightage will be given to formative and summative assessments. In Class 11, 60 per cent weightage will be given to summative assessments and 40 per cent to formative assessments.&nbsp;

In Class 12, 70 per cent weightage will be for summative assessments and 30 per cent for formative assessments.&nbsp;

As proposed by PARAKH, the assessments will be measured in terms of credits.&nbsp;

As per the proposal, students will be able to accumulate 40 credits each in Classes 9 and 10 and will gather 44 credits each in Classes 11 and 12.&nbsp;

“My father is a daily wage labourer but he never tried to stop me from studying. He told me that my education is my wealth and has encouraged me,” she added.

Nandhini's father S Saravanakumar is a carpenter by profession while her mother S Banupriya is a homemaker. She has a brother who is in Class 6.

Saravanakumar told the media that Nandhini was focused on studies&nbsp;from a young age.&nbsp;

"She saw how hard we were working and always wanted to do what she could to lessen our burden," he told The Times of India.

Akila, the headmaster of the school Nandhini was studying in, said teachers expected her to do very well in the 12th exams. Nandhini had scored 598/600 in her Class 11 exams. The headmaster told The Times of India that Nandhini studied on her own under the guidance of her teachers and did not attend any extra tuitions.

The results of the Tamil Nadu Board Exam 2023 for class 12 were declared by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Exams (DGE) on Monday (May 9).

This year, the overall pass percentage was 94.03. The district of Kanyakumari recorded the highest pass percentage of 97.05 per cent.

8,03,383 students appeared for the examination in all.

Girls outperformed boys in the board exams once again. They had a higher pass percentage of 96.38 per cent compared to 91.45 per cent registered by boys.&nbsp;

India: Daily wage worker's daughter scores 100% marks in Class 12 exams

UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar on Monday said the central universities will have to use Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores to admit students to undergraduate programmes this year in India.&nbsp;

He said the CUET, in all likelihood, will be conducted in the first week of July.

This means that apart from the eligibility criterion of different universities, Class 12 board examination marks will not have any bearing on the admission of the students.

"From the 2022-23 academic year, the National Testing Agency will be conducting the CUET for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. All the central universities will have to consider CUET scores for admissions to their programmes," Kumar said at a press briefing.

There are 45 central universities funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The syllabus of the CUET will be mirrored with the Class 12 model syllabus of the NCERT, Kumar said.

The CUET will have Section 1A, Section 1B, general test and domain-specific subjects. Section 1A, which will be compulsory, will be in 13 languages and candidates can choose the language of their choice.

The options are English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Section 1B is optional and for students who want to opt for another language apart from the ones that are a part of Section 1A. Some of the languages on offer are French, Arabic, German, etc, he added.

Under the domain-specific subjects, a candidate can choose up to a maximum of six domains that they wish to pursue at the undergraduate level, Kumar said.

There are some universities that have general test as eligibility criteria for admission to even domain-specific courses so that is a part of the CUET, he said.

The UGC chairman said the reservation policy of the universities will not be impacted due to the CUET.

"The universities can enroll candidates for the general seats as well as for the reserved seats on the basis of CUET scores. It will not impact the existing admission and reservation policy that are in accordance with the Ordinances of the varsity," he said.

Explaining further, he said if a university has a certain percentage of seats reserved for local students, it will be able to retain that.

"But the thing is that these students will also have to take admission through CUET,” he added.

Central universities like Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) reserve half of their seats for the minority students. Both the universities are yet to take a call on CUET.

According to an AMU official, they will take a call on the CUET once they receive any communication from the UGC.

Kumar also said foreign students will continue to be admitted as per the existing practice the universities have on supernumerary basis.

The universities will be allowed to conduct practical and interviews for courses like music, fine arts, theatre, along with CUET.

"The institutes can accord certain weightage to practical for such courses," he said.

He also said there would not be any centralised counselling after CUET this year. The universities will have their own counselling.

The CUET will be held in two shifts. In the first shift, candidates will be able to write one language, two domain-specific papers and the general test. In the second shift, candidates can write the remaining four domain-specific subjects and section 1B, Kumar said.

Talking about the benefits of CUET, he said it will provide equal opportunities to students from across boards, especially to those from the northeast and rural areas.

The CUET is also expected to reduce financial burden on parents and students, as candidates will only have to write one exam.

The state universities, private universities and deemed to be universities can also use CUET scores for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions if they want, Kumar said.

Delhi University and some other universities have already announced that they will only admit students to undergraduate courses on the basis of CUET.

About postgraduate programmes, Kumar said, there are many universities that have adopted the CUET while there are some that conduct their own exams. The universities will have flexibility to opt for CUET as of now.

"We hope that all the universities adopt the CUET for postgraduate programmes," he said.

The NTA will soon release the detailed guidelines regarding CUET and the UGC will issue a public notice on Tuesday, Kumar said.

The Supreme Court Monday asked CBSE and ICSE to respond by tomorrow to the concerns raised by some students and parents on the schemes of both the boards formulated to evaluate Class XII students, whose examination was cancelled due to the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/coronavirus">COVID-19 pandemic</a>.

A parents' association and students flagged several concerns with regard to the CBSE and ICSE schemes for evaluation for Class 12 results and said that many clauses are arbitrary and would be detrimental to future prospects of the students.

The bench also directed the registry to list all pending petitions in the matter on Tuesday, June 22, in which they have challenged the decision of CBSE to cancel the class 12 examination and raised concerns on the evaluation schemes of both the boards.

At the outset, senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for intervener UP Parents Association, Lucknow, said that option to students for external examination as given in the CBSE's scheme will be "a premium" for those students who could not do well in internal assessment.

Singh said, "This option should be given at the very initial stage to both student and school to opt for either external examination or internal assessment. If any school or student does not want to opt for this internal assessment then a date may be fixed for external examination in mid of July or any date found conducive for holding of examination".

The bench said that there should be some ray of hope for the students and there should not be any confusion. 
"The decision for cancellation of examination has been taken at highest level and we have in-principle accepted it,"&nbsp;the bench said.

Singh said there are several concerns with regard to the evaluation scheme of the students which are increasing uncertainty and no one knows what exactly would happen.

He said that it has been provided in the CBSE scheme that marks obtained by a student in any subject in internal assessment (based upon marks obtained in class X (30 per cent), class XI (30 per cent) and class XII pre-board examination (40 per cent)) shall not exceed the best marks obtained by ex-students in the said schools in the specific reference year (best year subject- wise amongst past three class 12 board exams) by more than 2 marks.

Singh said that there may be a case where due to past poor performance of students in a particular subject, the school hires a good teacher and the students performed well in their internal examination but they are likely to suffer due to poor performance by the ex-students.

"The present batch of students (or for that reason any student) may suffer because the marks obtained by ex-students in the reference year is lower than what present batch of students have obtained in any subject,"&nbsp;he said, adding that maximum the student would be given is the grace of two marks.

Singh said, "Such irrational policy of linking the present batch of students with that of the past performance of ex-students cannot be legally sustained under any circumstances. The present batch of students cannot be penalised for the past performances of ex-students".

He said that there should be uniformity in the evaluation scheme as English has been made mandatory for calculating average marks in the CISCE scheme, while in CBSE there is no such requirement and the best of three marks are taken.

"The policy of internal assessment should be uniform for both central boards. There is practically no scheme of internal assessment envisaged by ICSE. There are only a few letters to that effect. There are various variables that are not defined namely weightage for board exams is not defined anywhere. There is no clarification and teachers are in utter confusion"&nbsp;he said.

The senior lawyer said that he had a discussion with a maths teacher about the evaluation formula suggested by the board to which he had said that it is very complicated.

The bench said that what kind of maths teacher he is if he doesn't understand the formula and added that the court is not going by the perception of individuals and looking at the institutional response.

Advocate Abhishek Choudhury, appearing for private students and those with a second compartment, said that CBSE has said that they will be facing difficulties in admission to higher institutes as CBSE class exam 12 will be held when the situation is conducive, maybe in July or August.

The bench said it might direct that admissions will be subject to the outcome of the board exam results but asked him to argue the points on Tuesday.

The bench listed the matter for further hearing on Tuesday at 2 PM.

On June 17, the top court had said that there is no question of reversing the earlier decision to cancel class 12 board exams and had approved the assessment schemes of the CISCE and the CBSE, which has adopted 30:30:40 formulas for evaluation of marks for students based on results of class 10, 11 and 12 respectively.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) said however that it would consider the performance of students for the last six years, unlike CBSE which is taking note of performance in class 10, 11 and 12 exams, in finalising the final board results.

Both the boards had said they would declare the class 12 results on or before July 31.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a high-level meeting convened on Wednesday to decide on the CBSE board examinations amid the rising Covid cases in the country, looked like a concerned guardian of the children. He expressed concern about the health of the students who were supposed to take part in class 10 board exams. According to highly placed sources, the officials had come to the meeting with a proposal to postpone the board exams and not to cancel them. 
 
The officials affirmed that once the situation gets normal, exams can be conducted, but the Prime Minister put his foot down and clearly said, the country cannot take the risk with the health of the children as they are underage. Therefore, it is necessary to cancel the exams altogether, rather than defer them. However, Prime Minister Modi approved the cancellation of class 10 exams and the postponement of the class 12 examinations.

Officials present in the meeting said that the class 12 students will have to seek higher education once they complete school. Therefore, their exams can be conducted later. Highly placed sources present in the meeting said that it was only after the intervention of the Prime Minister that the examinations for class 10 were declared to be cancelled. 
 
Prime Minister Modi, as per the highly placed sources present in the meeting, said that class 12 students must be informed well in advance about whenever their exams will be conducted and all help must be accorded to them and their parents by the Ministry of Education and their educational institutions. This must not lead to despair among the students, the Prime Minister said.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank informed about the decisions after the high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister ended. 
 
He said that the CBSE Class 10 examination to be held from May 4 to June 14 stands cancelled and the CBSE will declare the result on the basis of the performance of students in their schools. Dissatisfied students can appeal against it, and may get a chance to sit in the examination later. 
 
The Education Minister said the decision to hold class 12 exam will be taken after reviewing the situation on June 1. The candidates will be informed 15 days in advance, he said.

In a shocking incident, a Class XII student of Swami Vivekanand&nbsp;School in Haryana&#39;s Yamunanagar was detained for allegedly shooting dead his school&#39;s principal on Saturday.

As per media reports, the student was upset after being scolded and attacked the principal Ritu Chabra with his father&rsquo;s licensed revolver.

The student fired four shots at Chabra&nbsp;critically injuring her.&nbsp;
