Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in AgustaWestland case, has been sent to 5 days of remand by a CBI Special Court. According to reports,&nbsp;Michel&nbsp;was produced before Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar today after the expiry of his five-day CBI remand.

The probe agency sought nine days further remand of Michel for his custodial interrogation saying he was not cooperating in the investigation of the case, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

Michel's counsel opposed the CBI plea for further custody saying it was not required as no incriminating evidence has been shown to him till now.

At the outset, Michel withdrew his earlier bail plea and filed fresh detailed bail application.

Michel, who is a citizen of the United Kingdom, was brought to India on the night of December 4, following his extradition by the UAE in connection with the case and later produced before the court which had allowed his five-day custodial interrogation by the CBI.

Michel had moved a bail plea. The court, however, kept it pending.

The Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland VIP helicopter deal, finalised during the previous government of Manmohan Singh, had got mired in allegations of kickbacks. The 54-year-old Michel is an accused in the case along with some others including former Air Chief SP Tyagi.

According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) charge sheet filed in a court here two years back, Michel had received kickbacks to the tune of 30 million Euros from AgustaWestland for the deal involving a purchase of 12 VIP helicopters. The deal, signed in 2007, was scrapped in 2013 following the bribery allegations.&nbsp;

"Aljo K Joseph appeared in his personal capacity. He did not consult the Youth Congress before appearing in the case. IYC does NOT endorse such actions. IYC has removed Aljo Joseph from IYC’s Legal Department and expelled him from the party with immediate effect," Amrish Ranjan Pandey, spokesperson of the Indian Youth Congress said in a statement.

"BJP is blowing this out of proportion and making an issue out of a non-issue," Amrish added.

Meanwhile, in Delhi's Patiala house court, a CBI Special Court sent Michel to 5-day CBI custody and has allowed his counsel one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening for consultancy. Michel has also sought bail hearing which the court will hear in next hearing. &nbsp;

The British high commission has also reacted to the development. Remember Michel is a British national who has been extradited from a 3rd country, that is UAE.&nbsp;

The British High Commission spokesperson said, "Our staff continue to support the family of a British man following his detention in UAE. We're in contact with his family and Emirati authorities regarding his case and are urgently seeking info from Indian authorities on his circumstances.”&nbsp;

Government sources have said India is willing to provide consular access to UK High Commission for Christian Michel and due process will be followed.

India has sent extradition request last year to UAE and after a lengthy legal battle in UAE's courts, he was extradited on 4th December to India.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, it seems Michel's extradition has sent messages to many including Vijay Mallya in London who tweeted, "I have offered to repay 100 % of the Principal amount to them( banks). Please take it."

A London court will announce the judgement on extradition of Vijay Mallya on 10th December.

Lawyer&nbsp;Rosemary Patrizi has&nbsp;planned a trip to India&nbsp;after his counsel Michel was extradited to the country on Tuesday night.

Michel was brought to India late Tuesday night following his extradition by the UAE, the CBI said.

Michel landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on a Gulfstream jet at 2235 hours.

The UAE government had cleared the extradition of 57-year-old Michel after his appeal against the move was turned down by a court there.

His alleged involvement in the chopper deal surfaced in 2012 as a middleman for swinging the deal in favour of AgustaWestland and for making illegal payment of commissions or kickbacks to the Indian authorities, CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said.
