<p>A massive fire broke out on Thursday (Jun 13) in the Chandni Chowk area of north Delhi, officials of the Delhi Fire Services said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"A call related to the fire was received at 5:00 pm (IST) from Chandni Chowk area. The fire was in Marwadi Katra, Nai Sadak in Chandani Chowk," Atul Garg, who is the director of Delhi Fire Services said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said that initially 14 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, but later more were sent to the site. No one was reported injured as yet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There should be a fire station in Chandni Chowk. BSES and the Delhi govt must give compensation. Till now no Delhi Minister has reached or taken stock of the situation there," he added.&nbsp;</p>

The Election Commission of India ordered on Thursday re-poll at a polling booth in Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency. The poll body declared re-poll at polling station no. 32 of Chandni Chowk Assembly Segment after the presiding officer forget to delete the test votes before the actual polling on May 12. The re-poll will be conducted on Sunday. In Chandni Chowk, sitting BJP MP and Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan is contesting against four-time Lok Sabha MP and Congress leader Jai Prakash Agarwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Pankaj Gupta. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.

<p>A Delhi court has reserved its order on framing of charge against Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker Alka Lamba, accused of allegedly trespassing and vandalising a shop in the city and obstructing the police from performing their duty in 2015.</p>

<p>Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra reserved the order after hearing the arguments of the police and the MLA&#39;s counsel on the point of charge. It is likely to pronounce the order next week.</p>

<p>An FIR was lodged against the MLA from Chandni Chowk on August 10 2015, a day after she had received head injuries in a stone-pelting attack during her anti-drug campaign in Delhi&#39;s Kashmere Gate area.</p>

<p>The case was registered at the Kashmere Gate Police Station on a complaint by traders including the proprietor of a sweet shop, Shiv Mishthan Bhandar, after a video clip emerged in which she was allegedly seen vandalising shops along with some of her supporters.</p>

<p>Lamba was earlier summoned as accused in the case by the court which had taken cognisance of a charge sheet filed by the police against her.</p>

<p>She was chargesheeted for alleged offences under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to property), 451 (house-trespass) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.</p>

<p>The charge sheet said that on August 9, 2015, Lamba along with some other persons committed trespass in the shop and threw a cash bill machine, vandalised the counter and obstructed and deterred the police personnel present there.</p>

<p>According to the police, the CCTV camera footage recovered from the shop showed Lamba toppling the billing machine while one of her colleagues was seen pushing everything from a table and jostling with the policemen.</p>

<p>The politician had claimed that the 30-second CCTV footage was shot after she was attacked.</p>

<p>Markets across the Delhi are to remain closed due to the bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders in protest against the ongoing sealing drive by the municipal corporation of Delhi.</p>

<p>According to reports traders in Khan Market, Greater Kailash 1 and 2, South Extension, Defence colony Connaught place, Karol Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Chandni Chowk, Sarojini Nagar have said that they will not open their shops.</p>

<p>The traders are also protesting in various parts of the national capital.</p>

<p>The mess of electric wires dangling over the entire Chandni Chowk area was akin to &quot;time bombs&quot;, putting at risk the lives of people, the Delhi High Court today said.</p>

<p>The court also observed that there was a lack of access to the walled city in case of an emergency as fire tenders and ambulances could not reach there.</p>

<p>A bench of justices G S Sistani and V Kameshwar Rao made the remarks while directing the Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to comply with its order to stop encroachments at the Chandni Chowk area in the walled city.</p>

<p>&quot;We expect that the previous orders will be complied with in letter and spirit,&quot; it said.</p>

<p>&quot;These are time bombs. You cannot look up and cannot see the sky clearly. There are so many wires hanging everywhere. A number of wires are hanging over shutters of every shop. We talk of heritage but are not ready to look at the grassroot level,&quot; the bench said.</p>

<p>Suggesting that authorities and hawkers should adopt some out-of-the-box thinking and regulation, the bench said whoever had visited Chandni Chowk in the last 50 years or even before would know that the area was the same since then.</p>

<p>&quot;Only vehicles have increased. Hawkers were always there,&quot; it said and listed the matter for November 17.</p>

<p>It said the situation should improve in such a manner that in an emergency, fire tenders and ambulances reach there, which was presently difficult.</p>

<p>While hearing a petition filed by the Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal against encroachments in the area, the bench observed that a Supreme Court order declaring Chandni Chowk as a no-vending zone has to be complied with.</p>

<p>Delhi Police&#39;s Standing Counsel Rahul Mehra said continuous drives were being undertaken to make the area encroachment-free but vendors resurface after the conclusion of the drive.</p>

<p>Advocate Sanjeev Ralli, appearing for the Mandal, said there was no doubt that drives were carried out but the situation was practically unchanged.</p>

<p>The court had earlier warned of serious action against the MCD and the police if they failed to stop encroachments in the area.</p>

<p>It had said that despite the order of the apex court that the police would be held responsible for encroachments in the Chandni Chowk area, it found that the orders were not being complied with.</p>

<p>The bench had also taken into account some photographs of the area submitted by the petitioner which showed that the place was full of encroachments.<br />
