The ICICI Bank board on Friday denied that it has asked its MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar to go on indefinite leave.

In a statement, a bank spokesperson said,”The ICICI Bank Board denies having asked Ms&nbsp;Chanda Kochhar to go on leave. She is on her annual leave which was planned in advance. Further, the Board denies that it has appointed any search committee to find her successor.”

ICICI Bank Ltd said on Wednesday it will institute an inquiry into the allegations raised by an anonymous whistleblower against Chief Executive Chanda Kochhar.

ICICI, India's third-biggest lender by assets, said the probe, headed by an independent person, would examine allegations that the chief executive did not adhere to provisions relating to the bank's code of conduct and whether her actions involved "conflict of interest".

ICICI had on May 25 said that Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had sought responses from the company and Kochhar on alleged non-compliance of the "erstwhile 'Listing Agreement' and the 'Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015'".

According to a BSE filing, SEBI sought the reply via a notice issued to the private lender and its MD and CEO on May 24.

As per the securities market regulator's LODR regulations, all listed entities are mandated to immediately disclose relevant and important information to stock exchanges.

The notice by SEBI had been issued "based on information furnished by the bank or its MD and CEO to diverse queries made by SEBI concerning dealings between the bank and <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/no-quid-pro-quo-icici-bank-gave-loan-on-merit-videocon-chief-venugopal-dhoot-127583">Videocon Group</a> and certain dealings allegedly between Videocon Group and <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/icici-videocon-case-cbi-questions-cfo-of-nupower-renewables-131233">Nupower</a>, an entity in which Deepak Kochhar, spouse of MD and CEO has economic interests," the bank said.

The bank said that appropriate responses would be submitted to SEBI in accordance with regulation.

The SEBI notice comes more than a month after nepotism and conflict of interest allegations were levelled against Kochhar. It has been alleged that Kochhar had wrongfully granted a loan to Videocon Group and that her husband's company - NuPower Renewables - received a loan from the Videocon Group's Chairman Venugopal Dhoot on a quid-pro-quo basis.

Chanda Kochhar on May 7 had said that private lender works under and abides by all regulatory norms and that it has been fully cooperating with regulatory and investigative agencies.

The bank has backed Kochhar, calling the rumours "malicious and unfounded".

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday (CBI) summoned Rajeev Kochhar's brother-in-law Mahesh Pugalia for interrogation in the ICICI Bank-Videocon case. Rajeev Kochhar is the brother-in-law of ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar.

The CBI also called in Umanath Venkat Naik, the Director of NuPower Renewables, a joint venture between Videocon and Chanda Kochhar's husband, Deepak Kochhar.

Pugalia, is reported as a close aide of Videocon Group chief Venugopal Dhoot.&nbsp;

Last month, Chanda Kochhar and her family members were allegedly named in a case where a loan was provided to the Videocon group on quid pro quo basis in 2012. Soon after, Indian Investors Protection Council Trustee Arvind Gupta said the evidence in the case pointed out that Chanda Kochhar was herself a beneficiary of the loan, and her husband Deepak Kochhar is an indirect beneficiary of the loan granted to Videocon.

"Venugopal Dhoot transferred money from the Videocon Group to Supreme Energy, in which he had 90 percent shares. He promoted it and later transferred it to Deepak Kochhar. Deepak Kochhar then transferred his shareholdings to Pinnacle Energy. Pinnacle Energy was a trust formed by Kochhar family. Now they are saying they sold their shares of NuPower Renewables much before. NuPower Renewables was a special purpose vehicle made to revert allegations in the future. ICICI never gave it a loan, but the company was benefited," Gupta told media.

The Income Tax (IT) department, last week, had sent a notice to NuPower Renewables, owned by Chanda Kochhar's husband. Meanwhile, the CBI also questioned few ICICI Bank officials as part of a preliminary inquiry to find if any quid pro quo was involved in the bank's issuance of the Rs. 3,250-crore loan to the Videocon Group in 2012.

An ICICI bank senior official noted Chanda Kochhar's involvement in the credit committee that was responsible for sanctioning the loan but rules out any possibility of her involvement in the case.&nbsp;

“The board doesn’t believe it represents a conflict as Videocon Group is not an investor in NuPower Renewables. Hence, there was no need for Chanda Kochhar to recuse herself from the committee,” MK Sharma, ICICI bank chairman told media on Thursday.

PTI reported that the SFIO has asked the heads of all 31 banks to come in for questioning. Kochhar, Sharma and the other bank chiefs are expected to be questioned at the SFIO&#39;s headquarters in Mumbai.&nbsp;

Kochar and Sharma will be questioned about the loans their banks made to Modi and Choksi but, news reports said, they are not being seen as suspects in the scam. &nbsp;

The PNB scam is being investigated by a slew of agencies including the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate and the SFIO.&nbsp;

The scam was first reported from a Mumbai branch of the Punjab National Bank.&nbsp;

It is alleged that PNB officials colluded with Modi and others to issue them Letters of Understanding (LoUs), basically bank guarantees. It was on those LoUs that Modi and Choksi got their bank loans.&nbsp;

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will have a packed schedule during the Mumbai leg of his visit tomorrow, as he will breakfast with business leaders, pay tributes to the Mumbai terror attack victims and attend a &#39;Shalom Bollywood&#39; event among other engagements.

Netanyahu will have a &#39;power breakfast&#39; with select captains of the industry, including Anand Mahindra, Ajay Piramal, Adi Godrej, and Chanda Kochhar.

He will later address the India-Israel Business Summit at the iconic Taj hotel in south Mumbai. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will also attend the summit, sources said.

There may be a one-on-one meeting between Fadnavis and Netanyahu after which the Maharashtra chief minister will be hosting a lunch for the Israeli premier and the visiting delegation, they said.

This will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack victims.

Netanyahu will then proceed to the nearby Nariman House, where he will meet 11-year-old Moshe Holtzberg.

Moshe&#39;s father Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and mother Rivka were killed at the Nariman House, during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The Jewish couple ran a cultural and outreach centre for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement at the Nariman House in south Mumbai&#39;s Colaba area.

Moshe came to Mumbai yesterday, returning to the place where he has orphaned nine years ago.

Netanyahu will later meet around 25 to 30 members of the Jewish community at the Taj hotel.

There are about 5,000 members of the Jewish community living in India, but most of them call Mumbai their home. The city earlier had a sizable Jewish population, but around 33,000 Jews migrated when Israel was created.

Mumbai has three distinct Jewish communities -- Bene Israel Jews, Baghdadi Jews and the Malabar Jews. For them, the visit by the Israeli prime minister is about reconnecting with old friends and strengthening old bonds.

The second day at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit commenced with the morning plenary session on &#39;We Can Do It! Discussions on Innovations in Workforce Development and Skills Training&#39;.

The session was moderated by Mr K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for IT E&amp;C and included eminent female personalities like Ivanka Trump, Advisor to the President of the United States, Cherie Blair, Founder, Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, CBE, QC; Chanda Kochhar, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Bank, Limited and Karen Quintos, Chief Customer Officer, Dell EMC as panellists.&nbsp;

As the panellist discussed ways to provide skills and training to women entrepreneurs, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Bank, Limited spoke at length about creating an environment that is conducive for women to work. Ms Kochhar noted that many women who also manage their families find it difficult to strike a balance between work and household responsibilities. She pressed for creating workplaces that understand&nbsp;working women and allow&nbsp;them to grow and prosper on their merit.&nbsp;

&quot;Women must not give up when they are just starting their family, it is easy to give up, one must not. Have conviction, it will take you forward. Your family and their support will drive you. What gives a woman inspiration is the pride that her family feels at her every step,&quot; noted Chanda Kochhar.&nbsp;
