Germans searched for answers on Monday (Dec 23) after a Saudi man drove his car into a Christmas market in Magdeburg, killing at least five people and injuring around 200 others, ahead of an evening rally by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).

The attacker is a 50-year-old medical doctor from Saudi Arabia, who has been living in Germany since 2006

India on Saturday (Dec 21) condemned the "senseless" car attack at a Christmas market in Germany's Magdeburg that left at least five people dead. This comes as reports suggest that at least seven Indians were among those injured in the vehicle attack.

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in its official statement expressed deep sorrow and said: "We condemn the horrific and senseless attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. Several precious lives have been lost, and many have been injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims"



In Germany, a deadly car attack on a Christmas market on Friday (Dec 20) killed at least five, including a toddler and injured more than 200. The vehicle barrelled through revellers at high speed in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

German media has identified the man behind the shocking Christmas market car attack in Magdeburg as Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, a doctor of psychiatry from Saudi Arabia.

A specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy, Taleb moved to Germany in 2006 and is believed to have been living in Bernburg. He received refugee status in 2016
