In the now-deleted post, as per Just Jared, Zegler detailed the outpatient biopsy procedure that she went through during the pandemic. The actress also shared a black and white photo showing off the scar she got from the procedure.&nbsp;<br />

Calling it the ''undoubtedly the scariest week of my life,'' Zegler wrote, "Two years ago I found a lump in my breast.''<br />

Describing the whole procedure and thanking the medics for all the help,&nbsp;the 'West Side Story' actress&nbsp;wrote further, "No OB/GYN was taking new patients due to the backlog of the pandemic, but I was fortunate to have the care of my pediatrician who prescribed me an ultrasound, which led to an out-patient biopsy procedure," she continued. "Thankfully it was benign."</p>

World Breastfeeding Week 2022: ‘Breastfeeding keeps kids healthy, prevents breast cancer’

<p>Breast cancer affects millions of women worldwide. UK's National Health Service (NHS) may introduce a new probe that may help in detecting and treating breast cancer that might have spread.</p>

<p>The detector, 'noisy' as described by BBC, works in a similar manner a metal detector does.</p>

<p>To detect the spread of the cancer using the Sentimag probe, a magnetised liquid (Megtrace) is injected in the tissue to be probed. The liquid gets absorbed in the cancerous tissue. The probe then detects location under the skin where the liwuid is accumulated. This gives an idea about where the cancer may have been seeded.</p>

<p>Use of the Sentimag probe has been included in draft guidance recommended to the NHS.</p>

<p>What may make this probe effective is that once injected, it follows the route cancerous cells are likely to take. The magnetised liquid gets absorbed in body's lymphatic system and get accumulate around cancerous growths. The liquid contains iron oxide, which is magnetic.</p>

<p>"This promising research could provide a new tool for our scientists to track and slow the spread of breast cancer, the most common cancer in the UK," said UK Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid. He was quoted by the BBC.</p>

<p>As per data with the World Health Organisation (WHO), 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the year 2020 alone. There were 6,85,000 deaths globally in that year due to breast cancer.</p>

<p>WHO says that by the end of year 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 5 years before that.</p>

<p>"Approximately half of breast cancers develop in women who have no identifiable breast cancer risk factor other than gender (female) and age (over 40 years). &nbsp;Certain factors increase the risk of breast cancer including increasing age, obesity, harmful use of alcohol, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, reproductive history (such as age that menstrual periods began and age at first pregnancy), tobacco use and postmenopausal hormone therapy," says WHO.</p>

<p>The study, published in the journal Nature on Wednesday, is the latest to show that artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve the accuracy of screening for breast cancer, which affects one in eight women globally.</p>

<p>Radiologists miss about 20% of breast cancers in mammograms, the American Cancer Society says, and half of all women who get the screenings over a 10-year period have a false-positive result.</p>

<p>The findings of the study, developed with Alphabet Inc's&nbsp;DeepMind AI unit, which merged with Google Health in September, represent a major advance in the potential for the early detection of breast cancer, Mozziyar Etemadi, one of its co-authors from Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, said.</p>

<p>The team, which included researchers at Imperial College London and Britain's National Health Service, trained the system to identify breast cancers on tens of thousands of mammograms.</p>

<p>They then compared the system's performance with the actual results from a set of 25,856 mammograms in the United Kingdom and 3,097 from the United States.</p>

<p>The study showed the AI system could identify cancers with a similar degree of accuracy to expert radiologists, while reducing the number of false positive results by 5.7 per cent in the US-based group and by 1.2 per cent in the British-based group.</p>

<p>It also cut the number of false negatives, where tests are wrongly classified as normal, by 9.4 per cent in the US&nbsp;group, and by 2.7% in the British group.</p>

<p>These differences reflect the ways in which mammograms are read. In the United States, only one radiologist reads the results and the tests are done every one to two years. In Britain, the tests are done every three years, and each is read by two radiologists. When they disagree, a third is consulted.</p>

<p><strong>'Subtle cues'</strong></p>

<p>In a separate test, the group pitted the AI system against six radiologists and found it outperformed them at accurately detecting breast cancers.</p>

<p>Connie Lehman, chief of the breast imaging department at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital, said the results are in line with findings from several groups using AI to improve cancer detection in mammograms, including her own work.</p>

<p>The notion of using computers to improve cancer diagnostics is decades old, and computer-aided detection (CAD) systems are commonplace in mammography clinics, yet CAD programs have not improved performance in clinical practice.</p>

<p>The issue, Lehman said, is that current CAD programs were trained to identify things human radiologists can see, whereas with AI, computers learn to spot cancers based on the actual results of thousands of mammograms.</p>

<p>This has the potential to "exceed human capacity to identify subtle cues that the human eye and brain aren't able to perceive," Lehman added.</p>

<p>Although computers have not been "super helpful" so far, "what we've shown at least in tens of thousands of mammograms is the tool can actually make a very well-informed decision," Etemadi said.</p>

<p>The study has some limitations. Most of the tests were done using the same type of imaging equipment, and the US group contained a lot of patients with confirmed breast cancers.</p>

<p>Crucially, the team has yet to show the tool improves patient care, said Dr Lisa Watanabe, chief medical officer of CureMetrix, whose AI mammogram program won US approval last year.</p>

<p>"AI software is only helpful if it actually moves the dial for the radiologist," she said.</p>

<p>Etemadi agreed that those studies are needed, as is regulatory approval, a process that could take several years.</p>

'Subtle cues' In a separate test, the group pitted the AI system against six radiologists and found it outperformed them at accurately detecting breast cancers. Connie Lehman, chief of the breast imaging department at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital, said the results are in line with findings from several groups using AI to improve cancer detection in mammograms, including her own work. The notion of using computers to improve cancer diagnostics is decades old, and computer-aided detection (CAD) systems are commonplace in mammography clinics, yet CAD programs have not improved performance in clinical practice. The issue, Lehman said, is that current CAD programs were trained to identify things human radiologists can see, whereas with AI, computers learn to spot cancers based on the actual results of thousands of mammograms. This has the potential to "exceed human capacity to identify subtle cues that the human eye and brain aren't able to perceive," Lehman added. Although computers have not been "super helpful" so far, "what we've shown at least in tens of thousands of mammograms is the tool can actually make a very well-informed decision," Etemadi said. The study has some limitations. Most of the tests were done using the same type of imaging equipment, and the US group contained a lot of patients with confirmed breast cancers. Crucially, the team has yet to show the tool improves patient care, said Dr Lisa Watanabe, chief medical officer of CureMetrix, whose AI mammogram program won US approval last year. "AI software is only helpful if it actually moves the dial for the radiologist," she said. Etemadi agreed that those studies are needed, as is regulatory approval, a process that could take several years.

Haven’t gotten ourselves clicked like this in the past 17 years (including 10 years of marriage) except for the last time at our marriage where we adorned our wedding as Christmas baubles sitting on a red sofa accepting shagun that would contribute to the wedding expense. Yea very middle class but much fun. The memories of that day do tickle a funny bone but some are scarring like the one with the photographer. He made us make poses that were extremely cliched but then he had to exhibit his artistic side too. So from looking from the corner of our eyes towards each other, to looking away from each other with our hands intertwined strategically exposing our wedding bands. From him standing behind me &amp; me sitting in front of him &amp; visa versa. From his hand holding my hand but not directly, Alas that would be too tacky for the maverick behind the camera. So the genious had my husband run his hand from behind my waist &amp; hold my hand from the front &amp; his other hand ran from the front of my waist stretching enough to reach my other far fetched suffocated hand that was trying hard to breath through the little pores that were sparingly left sans the mehendi, the 2 dozen red &amp; white bangles, nani mama’s golden bangles, my mother’s favourite bangles, Babaji’s Kadda &amp; last but not the least the kalira’s (golden embellishments hanging from the bangles). Amidst the many such contortions the only one left was us twisting our bodies around each other like the Naag &amp; Naagin. Though that crazy man was making us dance to his tunes anyway! So from then to now, it’s quite a leap. Thanku @subisamuel @htbrunch I thought it really would require a special day for us to get ourselves clicked professionally. But I didn’t realise the day would just not be special it will also be memorable for not only am I more comfortable in my skin today but also for the awareness of the cause that I am spreading &amp; enduring. Guess there is still more scope to love myself hence going through another testing phase. I somehow feel I’ll surge. If I was ok being a X’mas tree at my wedding this better be ok! #breastcancerawareness</a></p>

<p>Tennis superstar Serena Williams caused an internet sensation Sunday by posing topless for a video while singing "I Touch Myself" to raise awareness for breast cancer.</p>

<p>In the Instagram video, Williams covers her breasts with her hands while singing a version of Australian band The Divinyls' 1991 hit in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia.</p>

<p>"This Breast Cancer Awareness Month I've recorded a version of The Divinyls global hit 'I Touch Myself' to remind women to self-check regularly," wrote Williams on the post.</p>

<p>"Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it's an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key -- it saves so many lives."</p>

<p>The song was co-written by Divinyls Australian vocalist Chrissy Amphlett who died of breast cancer five years ago aged 53. &nbsp;</p>

<p>"The music video is part of the I Touch Myself Project which was created in honor of celebrated diva, Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away from breast cancer, and who gave us her hit song to remind women to put their health first," said the 23-time Grand Slam champion.</p>

<p>The video was viewed more than 1.3 million times in the first 10 hours after it was posted early Sunday with fans lauding the tennis superstar for her bravery in performing the song.</p>

<p>"Amazing Serena, important message and such a beautiful voice!" wrote one under the username deedpaula.</p>

<p>Another alshaze47 commented: "This is powerful!! I'm a Breast cancer survivor!!"</p>

<p>The video appeared less than three weeks after her tempestuous US Open final defeat to Naomi Osaka, where Williams smashed a racquet and accused an umpire of sexism.</p>

<p>Williams, who celebrated her 37th birthday four days ago, pulled out of this week's China Open in Beijing to bring a premature end to her 2018 season, her first back on tour since giving birth to a daughter a year ago.</p>

<p>Scientists have claimed to have detected anti-cancer properties in three traditional varieties of rice found in Chhattisgarh.</p>

<p>A research has concluded that three medicinal varieties of rice - Gathwan, Maharaji and Laicha - have the ability to fight cancer, said scientist Deepak Sharma.</p>

<p>The research was conducted by the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai.</p>

<p>These varieties were taken from the rice germplasm bank preserved in IGKV, said Sharma, principal scientist at the genetics and plant breeding department of the agriculture university.</p>

<p>The three varieties of rice have properties to cure lung&nbsp;and breast cancers without affecting normal cells, Sharma told PTI.</p>

<p>Of them, Laicha has been found to be the most effective in preventing proliferation of cancer cells and destroying them, he said.</p>

<p>Last year, IGKV, affiliated to the University Grants Commission, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BARC for carrying out a range of research on various crops.</p>

<p>As a part of the agreement, a study is being carried out on these three varieties of rice under the guidance of V P Venugopalan, Associate Director, Bio Science Group, BARC and other scientists, he said.</p>

<p>Sharma, who is also coordinator for researches being carried as a part of the MoU, said Gathwan, Maharaji and Laicha have been used for medicinal purpose in many pockets of the state, particularly in the tribal region of Bastar.</p>

<p>Gathwan also has the property to cure arthritis. Similarly, Laicha has been used in treating skin-related problems by villagers in some areas, the scientist said.</p>

<p>These varieties of rice also showed properties to prevent multiplication of cancer cells without affecting the normal cells, he said.</p>

<p>Certain elements in these rice varieties not only prevented the multiplication of cancer cells but also destroyed them to a significant extent, he said.</p>

<p>The research concluded that the necessary active ingredient can be achieved by consuming 200 gm of these varieties of rice daily by?a person, he said.</p>

<p>In the next stage of research, BARC scientists are trying to extract the anti-cancer ingredients or elements from these varieties and conduct trials on the mouse.</p>

<p>Subsequently, they plan to develop it as dietary supplement which will be easy for consumption for people, he said.</p>

<p>Describing the findings as a significant achievement, IGKV Vice-Chancellor S K Patil said very soon these three varieties of rice will be used in treatment of cancer.</p>
